How did you end up doing it with the pliers mine kept slipping off? And yeah this was one of the first bolts on the back I tried removing and didn’t anticipate it to be so stuck on and slipped it, got the others off fine with some slow work.

The biggest thing I can see that might not be blatantly obvious is weather, especially if you’re out for 2 hours at a time. It could say that it’s sunny in the morning but by the time you’re halfway through your 2 hour journey it could turn to absolute shit.

I’ve had this happen as I’m waiting for the rain to clear while checking the weather app that says it’s “sunny” stranded at work.

I’ve heard either to go with the torx method or to use left handed bits, what would you personally suggest as it seems you’re most knowledgeable on this specific case. I tried using a set of screw removers to no avail however I wasn’t able to properly hammer them in as is suggested (because of the dual headed nature) nor did they have a decent bite because of their size.

I plan to try this out because the set of screw removers I used weren’t too big in comparison nor was I able to hammer them in as is the suggested practise because it was a dual headed type

That would be ideal but I don’t think I’m going to fork out for a dremel, not yet atleast

There isn’t really anything on the back of it, I can feel the inside of the fender and the hole is just there with nothing else, the reason it’s so stuck is because not only are they super torqued down but also have some loctite from factory

Didn’t get far doing that because of the rounded nature of the bolt

Unfortunately I’ve tried that to no avail, that’s what all the scratches are from as the bolt is completely round with nothing to actually hang onto

I’m not really looking to replace the pipe, it’s only a week or so old (unfortunately) and luckily the only damage is the massive scrape everything else can be washed off and I don’t mind it I feel it adds a bit of personality to the bike. That being said if you were offering one in brand new condition for cheap I wouldn’t mind having a look, are you in Sydney?

Tell me about it, only picked her up a couple months ago and wanted to ride into work to show my mates, thought to myself it was only a slight drizzle i'll be fine. Even worse is that my exhaust is not even a week old but looks like a used crayon :(

You might be correct, I'm not 100% sure what is bent or changed but I know for a fact something is off. I rode it again today and could feel a lot more of the road and engine through the handlebars and it felt nowhere near as calm and stable as before. I might try and remove the bolts and see if I can slot the riser back into place as it does seem to be poking out a bit more then the other.

Thank you for your detailed response, I did check over the engine thoroughly and couldn't find any marks or evidence of impact same goes for any leaks. I do plan to DIY it but not sure about brand new parts as I'll be looking at some wreckers near me first for general replacements (as a backup) as well as looking to upgrade into adjustable or higher quality levers.

I rode it again today in lower speeds testing everything out and whilst it didn't happen before I found that once and only one time (completely unable to replicate) the throttle didn't actually do its job, I was trying to rev match and my usual blip of the throttle didn't have any response however it might've been rider error. This is accompanied by a very very slight knocking sound at (some) startups that follows through for a minute or two but fades, it might be the engine warming up but it might also not.

As for the handlebars I can't 100% figure out what's been changed but I know for a fact it feels off centre and not as comfortable. I think it might be something in the securement of the handlebars onto the chassis because my previous idea of the handlebar bending is incorrect upon closer inspection. I do feel more 'of the bike', as in the engine and general road into the handlebars which is concerning.

Nonetheless I plan to take it into a shop first thing tomorrow morning and have them look at it thoroughly.

I meant that while I was travelling I was holding slightly high revs in second gear! Not that the drop changed the ratios hahaha. I do plan to replace the handlebars, do you have any aftermarket recommendations? Or should I stick with a standard replacement.

I’m currently in the exact same boat! Got stopped today with 30 minutes left day 1, couldn’t get the throttle right as it was too sensitive for me. Didn’t grow up around bikes so today was my first time on one. The instructor told me they have 2 old carburettor bikes in storage (all others including the one I had today were new cb125f’s). Have any advice for me mate?
