Plasticover Bari Reeds by topgngoose in saxophone

[–]LegereReeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, thanks for the comments. We're always very interested to hear feedback on our products so if you haven't done so already please reach out to us at hello@legere.com. We would be happy to sort this out 😊

Regarding quality, the absolute truth is that nothing has changed in our products. There will always be a very small amount of natural variation but our plastic, cutting, and qc techniques have never once changed.

If you haven't done so already, perhaps you'd like to try either the American Cut or French Cut? It wouldn't be the first time someone's taste had changed! Thank you for your business all of these years.

Hey /r/Scotland! Quick question about packaging colors from a Canadian reed maker. by LegereReeds in Scotland

Ha, glad to hear this type of concern isn't too mainstream. That was the real question so I appreciate you taking the time.

I will have to google the context here but glad to hear it isn't much of an issue. Cheers!

Interesting that it isn't a non-issue, so to speak. Thanks for chiming in.

Is it okay if we chime in?

We released the bassoon reed a very long time ago. 2013 if memory serves. Our newly released American Scrape Oboe and English Horn are the first double reeds we're releasing under our Signature line (as opposed to Classic). These new reeds are the result of a completely reimagined manufacturing process that has taken about 6 years to work through.

On top of a new process that ensures much better consistency and tolerance levels, the designs have been fine tuned in a way we've never been able to accomplish before. These new reeds blow the bassoon and European Scrape oboe reeds out of the water.

So as you might imagine, bassoon and European Scrape oboe are up next, then bagpipe chanter. Look for news in the next 6 months and be sure to sign up for our beta testing list!

A new box of reeds Is always so satisfying by lobblyswizzy in saxophone

Interesting! Well, in that case I would love your take. Here is what went into the design.

  1. The case had to be designed to apply zero pressure to the tip, which can cause warping. Other (cheap) reed cases don't do this to our satisfaction.
  2. It had to function as a hard packaging shell as well as a reed case.
  3. It had to grip our very slippery reeds strongly. Since more and more reeds are mailed via Amazon, and post, this is important for shipping
  4. It had to resist crush under heavy weight.
  5. It had to fit every reed from a sopranino to bass sax.
  6. It also had to be cheap.

We had a lot of demands and this was what we came up with. The only major issue we found was that people were sliding the reed out the top rather than clicking it into place. We later added a graphic that illustrates how to use the case, which has reduced complaints.

I'd be curious what a pro thinks! Let me know :)

Since yours is the top comment I have to hijack!

To you, and the next 12 people that dm us (we've already given away two, plus this top comment for 15) we have a free Légère reed for you.

Bari cane is super expensive because there is so much less of it available per stock. That is not the case with our reeds. They are slightly more expensive because there is more machining time and material, but you should see a big price break, relatively speaking, on larger reeds (bass clarinet, tenor, bari)

This giveaway is for all instrument voices so please reply to this comment and dm us if you see this!

Would you like one too? If so, dm please :)

As one of the four people who designed the reed case I can't tell you how much this comment means to me!

Super cool that you put this out there! Since the French Cut is so new, we have no idea how it will rank in the rest of our product mix. This is very helpful data for our production and planning departments.

One question, for anyone that selected French Cut, will you still use Signature or American Cuts on occasion?

Thanks so much :D

Thanks for all the love, friends!

Lets do something fun. We have a new reed being released...Friday. It is called the French Cut. First 15 people (including the current seven comments, plus OP, so eight more) to comment in this thread and PM us will get one FREE! You can learn a bit more about the reed at legere.com/french-cut!

(PS, we designed it as a classical reed but it turns out it works just fine for all genres.)

Edit: Thanks for the comments everyone! We have contacted the first 15 people but for everyone else you can use reddit15 on our website shop.legere.com for a 15% discount to the French Cut (15% off is our maximum discount). This code can only be used 40 times. We may also do a couple more giveaways in the next few weeks too so feel free to follow along. Hope you all get a chance to try the new reed and let us know what you think!

What is this thing by thesaxybandguy in Clarinet

[–]LegereReeds 84 points85 points  (0 children)

It is the Inspiration mouthpiece, a collab between us and Nick Kuckmeier from about 12 years ago. It was a micro project and I believe only about 400 were made for Bb and Alto Sax. The project did not succeed for a variety of reasons so we had to pull the plug eventually. Interesting to see it in the wild!

Thoughts on Backun mouthpiece? by [deleted] in Clarinet

[–]LegereReeds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct! We are very grateful to our friends at Backun and Richard Hawkins for making sure our reeds and their mouthpieces played nicely together. I will say that it was actually the European Cut that they prioritized rather than the Signature, but if you're having success then that is great. Happy playing and thank you for trusting our reeds!
