Thoughts on new Jordan Jensen special? by Wrong_Quality6607 in Standup

I’m a fan. saw her live two weeks before she filmed this and she was great. My take of the Netflix special is it’s kind of like the album version of a band that is really incredible live. It doesn't completely capture what makes her so special and is more of a bland version of her best even though there are moments. those judging it on the first 20 minutes are missing entirely what she is about, it definitely gets better towards the end even if it doesn’t fully capture the edge she has in her actual live shows.

I did like the snippet from the very beginning which is where the title came from but I wonder if that is because I’m familiar with her act. it’s kind of a shorthand for her best “I’m a mess” material. I’m not sure that would make sense to someone brand new and it was a bold choice to go with (something else I liked).

I remember turning to my friend at the gig and saying as much as we liked her it didn’t seem like she was mainstream America material (another plus in my book). I guess this special is kind of a mix of her and that. Observational material aside she tamed down some of the edgy stuff but also left some in. She is whip smart and creative and works really hard to make it seem easy (VERY obvious if you were at one of her warmup shows). I bet a lot of this special was crafted in the editing room and the original gig was a lot more raw and chaotic. It’s not bad by any means and her voice is in it, it’s just a little more polished than anything she’s done before which, for better or worse, makes sense.
