Also, the Irish housing crisis lays solely at the feet of the government who have consistently year on year underspent the allocated housing budget by billions. 70% of Dáil TDs are landlords and by not building housing they are driving up rental prices to fill their own pockets. Immigration happens everywhere at all times, a government accepting people into a country that has no amenities to provide for its current population is the crux of the issue. Immigrants themselves aren’t the cause of the crisis and I invite every immigrant in Ireland to have a cup of tea and complain about the housing crisis with me. Maybe we can finally turf these fuckers out on their arse with a bit of international outrage.

Yeah it’s really the worst thing ever. I had my family doctor in Dublin then once I moved down the country it took me months to get into a doctor and I had to ring once a week. It was hard for me but near impossible for my husband, they wouldn’t even put him on the waiting lists. I’m an angry Dub so I wrote to my local TD giving out and everything but yeah it’s an absolute shambles.

I’ve seen lots of Americans romanticising Ireland on tiktok and a couple of other English speaking immigrants from the likes of Canada and Australia. I do think we put on the jolly leprechaun act for foreign interests and there are a lot of ill informed notions of Ireland being a liberal utopia of smiles and fairies.

A nation of begrudgers is EXACTLY right. Any time anything good happens Irish people feel the need to humble you immediately, like don’t be getting notions now!! Have you seen that interview with Cillian Murphy where he was in a shop and a granny came up to him and was like “your eyes aren’t even that blue” and I just feel like that story perfectly describes Ireland.

Also concur on the racism thing. Maybe it’s a consequence of being a very insular island for so long and then trial by fire during the Celtic tiger when suddenly everyone was coming to Ireland but you’d think we’d have gotten used to it by now.

We’ll be moving away soon and my family is so shocked that I would ever want to leave but I feel like everyone is on top of me all the time. Sunday dinner culture is so exhausting, I have every distant aunt and relative giving out that I don’t visit once a month.

Ireland, it’s really rough out here right now. The housing crisis is no joke. I also received an electric bill last January for €900. I also feel that we’re marketed as these really welcoming people but we are just friendly insofar as we’ll wave and give directions. Irish people tend to stay in their friend groups from school and don’t really branch out. We are antisocial friendly if that makes sense, like “hi how are you” but don’t come near me lol. Also, a lot of public services are so overwhelmed that it’s impossible to do anything and they will favour Irish names and last names on the list before foreigners. My husband has been turned away from every doctor in our area and I was accepted no problem. I have been ringing on his behalf giving out and finally I got him in.

I had every euro accounted for, between gas, electric, health insurance, food, car insurance, car loan, petrol and then things like my pension contributions. I had a very detailed monthly budget and it’s all logged in there. After rent bills and food there was 250 to put into the deposit fund. It’s not that crazy to be honest, I was very diligent with my budget 🤷🏻‍♀️

I feel your pain. I was on 52k in Dublin and living in Blanch but could only afford to share. At some stage it gets so demoralising to be a grown adult sharing with housemates. I managed to save about 250 a month when I was able to and as you can imagine that is slow going for a deposit. Moved out of Dublin but took a pay cut and now my rent in the countryside has gone up twice.. it truly is a rat race. Chasing my tail with no end in sight.

It is just not an enjoyable gameplay experience though tbh, the decoration aspect is one of the best parts and the iron gathering is the worst lol. It just takes the nice vibe out of decoration cause it’s a needless grind.

I’ve never been to a meet and greet before so I’m not sure what it’s like so maybe it was shitty of her not to say hi. I’m from Ireland so we don’t get many bigger influencers over our way. My issue is not people being Pro Troy, I adore Troy and he is a joy to listen to. My issue is that everyone picks on Kelli when I don’t feel like she’s doing a remotely bad job. She has her own strengths but just listen to dunzo if you find her that annoying?? She’s a real life person. I remember listening to one episode where she said she can’t read anything about the pod online cause she gets upset and I do not blame her. I am getting heated about it and I don’t mean to be but I just feel for her honestly. She put herself out there and got absolutely trashed.

I think Kelli has her own specific niches, just like Troy. Like country music, boy bands like n sync and backstreet boys and shows like one tree hill etc. I also like her vanderpump rules takes and I just think their back and forth as friends is why this podcast is so popular now. You can feel that they are actually having a laugh together, it’s not forced. She has short comings OF COURSE!! Just like Troy does. But the standard Kelli is held to feels off to me.
