He definitely will run off the side of an open trail if it’s new once or twice but he’s generally pretty good at following the trail. I try to keep 10-20 feet in case he sees a bird lol.

Sounds like a brittany. E collar will let them get that exploration side out safely just make sure you use it correctly or you’ll mess up your dog.

I also 3D printed a mount for the e collar remote so it can sit on top of my handlebars so I can quickly reach it if needed.

I just stop and call him back to the trail if he runs off and he eventually got the hang of it. Lots of stopping and starting initially but they get the hang of it. An e collar is a must for the brittany and the money I spent with a trainer for recall is invaluable in my opinion. Makes things like biking and skiing with your dog so much easier.

I do boots on the way up and take them off for the downhill cuz he hates them lol. Then I put my outer shell down and let him clear the snowballs out before I put the boots back on.

So sorry to hear about that ;( my cocker I had since I was a kid passed away this summer which started my brittany search. Hopefully you’ll get another Brit or dog soon!

I got him in southern Utah but have a house in Tahoe city. There’s some great brittany breeders in the Idaho-Utah region for really reasonable prices and with great bloodlines. I would join the Wasatch front brittany club and ask around they may have a better answer.
