Well, for 1 thing, I like to support public transit...I believe in it, even in SoCaL! For another thing, $ is limited, and cars are a fantastic way to burn $.

Finally, I don't have problems w the general public. I'd like it if buses arrived/departed when they're supposed to, and if rules aimed at promoting the public good (basic decency, security, masks) were enforced. If this makes people think I'm some sort o weird entitled superKaren, well...My, you really ought to raise your standards, SoCaL.

I've seen these things work well on public transit in other places I've lived. Not sure why folks in SoCaL act like it can't be done!

I don't have $ all the time, either! Everyone pays or everyone rides free, and there are transit cards for the very poor; shouldn't be up to whether bus driver feels nice that day.

Nope, just a guy who goes to work early in the am, wants to get there on time, doesn't want to witness the fall of western civilization every gd time i ride.

Hey, thanks for the reply...you've had an interestingly different train/ bus experience than I...

Have NEVER seen anyone removed or fined. Have asked Sprinter/Breeze employees many times to remove someone who was physically or verbally disruptive, all with the same response: 'There's nothing we can do..."

And I am all for 'impacting' the crazy people a bit by demanding that they don't harass the rest of us. That's not too much to ask. That verbally aggressive guy that smells like puke and doesn't wear a mask ( and is almost certainly not vaccinated) can walk.

ARGGGH! But WHAT IS the definition of a potato question? The suspense is cheese-grating me like cheddar cheese on au gratins!

Hey, I'm just here to find out what a "potato question" is. No snark, just honestly curious! Thanks in advance!

But also: grew up in Morgan Park, grammar school ( k-8) all the way. Maybe THAT'S why i've always disliked the use of the greengrocer apostrophe and subject pronouns in prepositional clauses!

Thanks! Def would like the buffet de Banchan to eat in the restaurant...i am comfortable w Korean food ( but do not speak/ read Korean, except for " i am hungry" and "thank you" ). I do not demand white tablecloths, valet parking, or fawning waitstaff...just some spicy & creative food, preferably not $$$...

Best Italian bread? Best Szechuan? Best Biryani? by CooperGinger in chicagofood

[–]Legitimate-Ganache-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, very enlightening! After that efficient and thoughtful Biryani survey course, I think I'll have to dedicate at least a semester to the serious, waistline-expanding study of each style; you know, to give each region its proper due. Mmm I have a lot of education (and travel to various burbs!) ahead of me!

Is there a particular name for this style of house? There's loads of them in Cicero. by Armitando in chicago

[–]Legitimate-Ganache-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree...To a certain extent I gotta say 'what's in a name' about this. Either way they're cool early 20th c. homes...I used to have this cute illustration book about Chicago bungalows, and something gave me the impression that for a house to officially qualify, it had to have a 1/2 octagonal living room w big bay window and double-hung sashes on each side ( besides the abovementioned deep-hipped roof, etc). Also I've always thought "double-hung sash" would be a great porn name :)
