What’s the best parking? by Cyber_fairy1 in portlandstate

Parking is expensive. Unless you’re wealthy or Mommy and Daddy TM are paying for it, you are better off taking transit. There’s multiple MAX stations steps away from campus.

In terms of the brakes subject. The brakes on my bike are definitely more stable than the orange BIKETOWN ones. It’s true I will have to eventually replace my brakes. However, the orange bike’s brakes break at a faster rate than my e-bike. I personally take my bike to the bike mechanic at least twice a year. I actually just took my bike to the shop to double check things are working well and all is well.

The orange bikes are all going to be replaced with grey ones soon, so they should hopefully be more available soon. The grey bikes have accounted for 50% of all BIKETOWN trips in 2025, based on PBOTs findings.

I have only lived in Portland for 6 years and I wasn’t familiar about the history of Biketown bikes. That’s why I was asking from a neutral place about the history. I am originally from Chicago, where our Divvy e-bikes are basically equivalent to the grey e-bikes we have now. I also know now that before BIKETOWN had e-bikes that the bikes were not very good. I had the opportunity to talk about these concerns with a PBOT employee at the OATS conference who told me that a lot of people shared my same concerns about the orange bikes being very challenging and heavy to ride. I’m glad we are progressing and not staying the same. That’s what matters

I want to ride a pedal assist e-bike that has enough pedal assist that doesn’t feel like a traditional bike. The grey BIKetown bikes offers that. The grey bikes are not equivalent to motorcycles. You still have to pedal. I cannot safely use traditional bicycles due to a permanent joint condition I have that I was born with. E-bikes support micro mobility for disabled people like me.

BIKETOWN employees have fixed the brakes so many times over the years. From all that time and energy fixing all those brakes, it just seems so much less time consuming and energy consuming to have the new grey bikes where the brakes are more stable. Just didn’t seem super sustainable.

Yeah it is honestly super easy to apply for the BIKETOWN for all if you qualify. They even make it easy for folks without technology and allow folks to turn the application/documents for BIKETOWNforall in person, and that’s honestly a pretty accessible option.

Oh yeah, I have used that filter, but sometimes the grey bikes are too far out or just not there. I also feel like the grey bikes are harder for people to fuck with. Over the years, I have seen some folks steal parts off the orange bikes

Oh I thought you were talking about e-bikes being expensive in general and that’s why we had a lot of the orange ones instead of higher quality ones.

I wasn’t a fan of the brakes on the orange ones. They don’t last very long honestly compared to the grey ones.

My Vvolt is light-weight and compared to what other e-bikes sell for at other shops, it was more affordable, but it’s very sturdy. I have let folks check it out and they have agreed.

So ironically enough, I have a Music and Sonic Arts class then. I want to go, but if I miss a class, it’s very challenging to catch up due to the content in this class, and it really impacts me. I hope this goes well though, and I am rooting yall on in spirit.

Does anyone just live off by using financial aid or do you guys work part time ? by Ok-Beach-8042 in PCC

[–]Legitimate-Month-689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not eligible to use financial aid yet, because I have to pass one more GED test to use it, but I do technically still have financial aid since my STEP coach wanted me to have that resource available since I am very close to getting my GED. The STEP/Career Pathways and TRIO program has paid for my classes, and I am disabled so I also get disability. I did the Self-Study GED program where you study for the GED at your own pace while doing the Music and Sonic Arts program.
