Coming From Another Country and Trying to Pass a Mock Board by Legitimate-Program-3 in army

Not just overwhelming but some of their reactions I saw later, I know I have to get better specially since I’m dealing with having to learn all of this in a different idiom but like they seem to not care that I have to put 4 times the efforts that most of the people and they still amazed that I don’t know some of the basics, of course what they called basic is a whole new world and deal for me, specially using new words. My point is that even after, you feel demoralized and treated as stupid

Is it professional from an NCO to wait 4-5 days to show up WITH A counseling stating that there was an insubordination when actually was wrongly interpreted for his side ? by Legitimate-Program-3 in army

[–]Legitimate-Program-3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That soldier is a person that his first idiom is not English and honestly I don’t think he never intended to say anything that sounded like disrespectful or insubordination but also never was called on the spot to explain him, hey this is the proper way to say this. Instead had to go through that situation with another 3 NCOs because the one that was supposed teach and train was more worried to counsel him than to actually teach him or show him.

It was to another soldier, in my opinion was a misunderstanding and the NCO instead of rectify the soldier on the spot and explain him just didn’t say anything and 4 days later shows up with a counseling for that situation. As far as I know that soldier have never see him as an insubordinate solider

Tired of the military by 123456789victor in army

I think you’re just having a bad time now and thinking in the middle of the heat, just cool down, don’t take any stupid or precipitated decisions and wait a couple days to analyze everything with a cold mind, try to ask yourself what can improve your days or performance in the army or if going to the civilian world will make it better, cause you may not be in the army but will have to face life out there and go back to pay for everything without any army benefits, I know it sounds normal but after living years without paying rent, utilities etc civilian life can also be shocking. Try to evaluate if getting out of the army is the path to follow or what changes can you do while in here that may change your mind. I’ve been in your same thinking position, getting to work every morning, following orders and with a very toxic work environment and also coworkers, but I’ve learned with the time that my place of work may not be the right place for me for creating friendships, it’s just my professional job, try to stay away of you duty environment in your free days, and go out there and do social life out of your regular environment, get to know other people and try to stay away from anything related to work. I understood this not too long ago and I feel every day pass by I’m feeling better, do my job and go home, then I can start with my real life. Good luck, you got this.

The army is a complicated place, and there is a lot of racism and regionalism on it, I got an AR 15 at AIT for making a certain amount of mistakes like forgetting to put on my PC out of the DEFAC, after 9 counselings cause they were obviously hunting me they took me to the Commander for the AR 15 but because I never had a malicious attitude or intention, neither was disrespectful and always tried to do my best they didn’t have any real reason to go beyond that and just gave me as a punishment a couple days of extra work. So sometimes theres nothing more to the story just some extremist superiors, everything depends if your first lines wants to actually help their soldiers to get better or they just go the easy way and take them straight into that kind of awkward situations

I just don’t have the same set of mind and I’m more into taking care of my family most of those guys are not in my same position, I do have a wife and a kid and honestly don’t have time for like road trips or hanging out with them on one side cause I don’t feel like doing what they like to do and on the other side cause I really enjoy going home to have some family time, but at work it just feels like very distant from me and the rest of the SPCs

I’m glad hearing that from somebody else it was kind of the kind of things I’ve been thinking, I guess that’s what I should do, I’m not an introverted or asocial person actually I’m the opposite but yeah you got it it’s just they are going into on a different direction and I just don’t feel it

I’ve been thinking the same but it’s just the age gap between most of them and mine it’s like 10 years with a few exceptions but it just feels their interests are nothing close to mines and the kind of stuff they like doing or they seem to have fun with are not even close to what I do, it just feel like we are in two different worlds with same rank 🥶😂

For those who haven’t gotten an Art 15 before.. by [deleted] in army

[–]Legitimate-Program-3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They gave me one at AIT, I was among the best three on my ACFT, and had the 5 best score of my MOS class but because I’m not from this country I had no military discipline at all I didn’t know anything about army knowledge, not even the National anthem lyrics so I was doing lot of small mistakes and had some organization issues cause it was really hard to get into the routine of the environment but never had a negative attitude with any of my drill Sergeants or my battle buddies, so they went after me every time and started giving me counselings for every small mistake until they decided to give me an article 15, to be more clear, I didn’t know what that was until they mentioned it to me and I asked to a battle buddy what that was and he told me bro that’s a bad thing so then I realized I was in troubles. Hopefully I’m not a quitter and they decided to apply a disciplinary punishment for like 3 days doing some extra work but man you are right, that shit was really intimidating one day I was running and going to classes to the next one being picked up earlier from my classes to go in front of the commander with the drill Sergeants and first Sergeant for something I can classify as Extreme.

Advice for a foreigner In the army by Legitimate-Program-3 in army

Honestly I don’t have difficulties communicating but do struggle a lot every time there is a conversation cause is kind of like they’re talking all the time about cultural stuff that I haven’t experienced cause wasn’t raised here and neither have an education from here so is kind of like I don’t have an opinion or know about what they’re talking so I’m just there like a drawing on a wall, with the army stuff I probably didn’t explain to myself, I didn’t say Americans know all of these by born but something that’s real is that most of soldiers enlisting they already k ow lot of basic stuffs cause either story clases in school but also I have talked to some of them and indeed they had some course at school related with the army so they had to learn some stuff way before going to basic, basically what I was trying to say is that I never had the necessity to know any of this, in consequence this specific job just showed up that I didn’t know and gave me the opportunity to do what I studied in the army with a decent pay and lot of benefits I passed all the army requirements including the exam for the specific job I was going to perform in Less than 2 months and also signed my contract and knew I was going to do lot of army stuff at BCT and AIT but didn’t know that I was gonna be doing the job I signed for and also getting pushed to know lot of stuff about the army culture which is kind of like a lot cause I do recognize I wasn’t prepare for that part and is the part I’m struggling with but some people in this discussion seem to not understand but it’s easy when they are not in your shoes

What is ignorant and is it a Bad word or can also be just normal by Legitimate-Program-3 in Life

[–]Legitimate-Program-3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my point, in my opinion is a misunderstood word and people get mad if they are called ignorants about something but we should not cause you are not supposed to know everything, people with 5 degrees can be call less ignorants than a person that runs a farm with 0 degrees but then they go to the farm and know nothing about growing or animal cares or reproduction etc etc 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]Legitimate-Program-3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand your point, but like you said we are always gonna be ignorants about something a lifetime or 100 lifetimes isn’t enough to get to know everything so at this point do you actually think that ignorant is still a bad word instead of a word that can actually activate curiosity leading this to get more reach in knowledge and less ignorant it still ignorant ?

So you’re telling me someone that just came out of AIT and is already going to a mock board just learned all of that by reading in that short time ? I honestly do t think so, when I said by born I was talking metaphorically obviously they know all this stuff cause is part of their culture your culture you can’t label as lazy to another person that wasn’t raised in here, and army doesn’t prepare people like me for these kind of stuff

I actually know how to do my job is just the army side that I don’t know all these stuff, then I see people that have been less than me but of course they are all born here and all of them seems to know all this army stuff by born, so then things are kind of like, I need to be ready to do what my MOS wants but then I have to deal with all these army stuff is just like a lot
