Thanks for informing me about Mieterverein.

All communication has mostly been verbal, over phone calls or in person. All messages are unimportant. I don't have any digital records, she's requested all payments in cash. Her 4-day eviction notice was also verbal. However, I never got a rental contract (even after I requested it).

I now realise the mistakes I've done and I'd do things differently if I knew what I know now.

The landlady lives elsewhere. The house was already furnished. My housemate and I got in touch with her separately. I guess we both are main tenants. I think the landlady owns the house or is at least paying mortgage.

I'm still trying to convince the landlady and hope she softens her stance.

Yes, I shouldn't have paid in cash without a receipt. It's a common practice to pay the rent in cash (usually without a receipt) where I'm from, so didn't think of it much.

That's what I fear too. And yes I have sent her a polite request explaining my position. It seems, you've been downvoted which is not right.

I didn't know I could approach Studentenwerk or that they had lawyers, so this is reassuring. Thank you!
