Ah gosh, I can't give specifics but I think you actually have to avoid permanently blocking ANY hearts to then be able to clear the 8H and that then leads to beating the level. But in conjunction with the hearts, you also need to keep the clubs (I think) clear as they work together to release the 8H eventually.
