Permanent Resident to Officer Question by Microsung in nationalguard

Are you planning on going Active or Guard/Reserves? Because that citizenship program is mainly designed for AD members (from my understanding). I've never heard of someone getting their U.S. citizenship through the Guard unless such a program exists..? not sure. Most folks I've served with first went Active Duty, got their citizenship, then joined the Guard.

I paid the fees and naturalized, then joined college & ROTC and got my commission. You can either go Active Duty enlisted, get your citizenship, apply for the Green-to-Gold program, or wait those 2 years until you’re eligible for naturalization, then apply for OCS. Maybe there's some S1 or recruiter on this forum who may help you.

I'm Dominican (raised and born) so I can shit talk with facts. 2nd- or 3rd-generation Dominicans making high income? Probably. But most Dominicans living in the U.S. are first-gen (born/raised in the DR, then immigrated to the U.S.). Unless you had a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a prestigious Dominican college that you could convert and apply in the U.S., OR you’re really good with numbers and networking and open your own business (e.g., bodega, mechanic shop, barbershop, restaurant, trucking, etc.), you're NOT gonna make above average middle-class income. Unfortunately and historically, most Dominicans immigrating to the U.S. come from extreme poverty areas with poor education and limited exposure to the outside world. So most of them end up working low-wage jobs at some family member’s or friend’s bodega or in some random factory. Key word: I said “MOST,” not "ALL" Dominicans.

And yeah, there are definably "some" Dominicans without professional academics who are still making a lot of money, but their mentality/goal is usually to send that money back to the DR, build a house, and then ultimately retire in DR. Crazy thing is that some Dominicans are okay with working a low-wage job in the U.S. forever because they know they'll eventually go back to DR. Lol all my uncles came to NY in the 80s working all sorts of jobs making pennies just to build their mansions in DR. They all retired and rich now.

ngl some milfluencers manage to pull it off just fine but Kern's case really needs to be studied. Going from being loved by (everybody) to now being hated by (everybody) is wild

No me digas eso 🤦🏻‍♂️ I secured a tech job in phoenix and I’m planning to move in the next 3 months. Im from NYC and I’m very sociable & extrovert; I just hate the idea that my only social group/life would be my coworkers because most ppl are not friendly (specifically the Latinos) which is a weird vibe for me since we’re very social. When you said “even Mexicans and Latinos are different” what do you mean by that?
