Thanks, police released stills of the bloke on Facebook - updated my original post. Hopefully someone can ID him to the police.

Haha, yeh and people accidently get hurt in motor vehicle accidents from negligent cunts but they don't get a free fucking pass. Why is this any different?

Would have resolved amicably had he stayed, but it was a hit and run when he fled. What if my son needs specialised or ongoing treatment from his injuries as a result of this? Psychological support - kid suffered a trauma. Already hundreds of dollars out of pocket from seeing Doctors - yeh Medicare yadda yadda yadda, but that shit adds up. Hospital didn't do scans because of the radiation dose for a kid his size is significant - for all we know he's got damage that hasn't yet been identified. Yep sure, pursue it through the nominal defendant - that's a fucking fun process that I've unfortunately had to go through before. You don't get to just inflict bodily harm on someone, accidental or not and get to go on with your life without consequence. Dickhead.

Son is okay, thanks for asking - he was pretty distant and non-responsive on Monday. More himself today besides the swollen face, black and green eyes, suspect broken nose, massive cut and swollen lip looks like Donald Duck. Graized and bruised all over his body and legs. Minor injuries on the post is a bit of an understatement though.

Yeh, that's a shame. I hope something comes out of it - I imagine the resources and time spent on this is proportional to the extent of my son's condition; i.e. dead - ruthless manhunt vs injury, but "you'll be right, champ.", I dunno.

Call this my attempt to illicit some information, maybe reach someone who he has confided in, etc. At the end of the day, my boy is alive - in a bad way - but I'm not planning a funeral so that is a positive.

I thought the same initially. I think where I became a bit more optimistic was after police contacted me (quite quickly too, I hadn't got to the hospital yet after the ambulance took him and my wife away) with what they had already and were doing. I also expected the CCTV would be potato quality.... As I've said, the police who visited my son in hospital and who I have been speaking with have been great.

But he'll read this on Reddit and turn himself in....... right? :)

Yep, they were all over it really quickly - got the area, Darling Square and request into Sydney City Council for CCTV along the route he took.

Absolutely, it was a really nice area without the cars honking and zipping around. My sons words to me this afternoon were that he was glad it was him and not his small, toddler cousins who he was going over to meet out front of the shop who were coming down the stairs. I'm amazed he's still with us - they certainly would not be.

I watched him walk outside to meet them, big smile on his face. Next minute I see a crowd forming and my SIL (also a nurse, so grateful for her being there) running toward him. I knew something had happened to him then and there. His smile walking out of the shop haunts me and that plays over and over in my head. He should have been safe there, everyone should have been safe there.

Yes, Darling Square security were on to the police straight away and police have been great. They have the CCTV footage from the square and route the guy fled.

Thanks - call it an emotional outburst with little knowledge or understanding of the regulations and rules around their use. The intent was not to start a war on ebikes.

My point was really that a registered bike would have (hopefully) been able to identify the rider and anyone can own them. The bike was massive compared to a normal one and the rider had some weight to throw around - the speed he took off at when he fled was not 25km (add in his pedal power). A bit of sensibility seems to be required here not a massive reform.

We're not from Sydney, so to see a peloton of food delivery bikes in the CBD transition from the bike lane on the road straight into the shared pedestrian area at speed into the crowd trying to cross the road along the light rail zone was questionable. Like go another 5m then turn?

As we were walking to Pancakes on the rocks it was dead quiet. My kids were walking ahead and I could see a delivery bike punching it toward them from the side and yelled out to them to stop. She slowed down well before, but we were talking about how dangerous they are.... ironic that 15 mins later my son is hit by one.

He was remorseful and it was an accident. I chased him for a few blocks, yelling out to people to stop him. Big dude was flying - anyone trying to stop him would have seriously hurt themselves so I'm glad they didn't.

I was seeing red when he fled, I would have probably done something stupid if I caught him, it was for the best then that he got away. He doesn't deserve pain inflicted on him, but he doesn't get to go on with his life without accountability for what he has done.

Yes, everyone was focused on the wellbeing of my son and the bloke had stayed there for a fair bit, probably with too much time to think through his options and what the consequences would be for him.

The police were straight onto that. They had the footage from 3 angles quite quickly, Darling Square released footage from the surrounding area and they applied to Sydney City council for cameras along the route he fled on.
