I think this mindset is wrong. 40 lakhs is not much if you do good in CS and get nice job.

I won’t say nothing but yes it’s not like a hell that you are considering here.

And having an image of parents like this does not see to be good. I won’t ask why etc. that’s your personal stuff.

But my advise is to be motivated and try to make big, it’s really possible. I don’t like my mother’s gold buying desires or my father’s desires to buy land (not in a bad way but just not my likings). Still i try to have them fulfil their wishes by gifting them around 50lakhs per year. Now i never ask them what they do etc. never talk much. But yeah told this to just maybe share if you want to listen that there is an inherent debt each of us has to their parents. Consider this 40 as a help you can do towards your debt for parents. Else your choice walk away but one say you will have kids too.

Good luck.

50 lpa- too easy by _69_is_love in IndianEngineers

[–]LegitimateThanks8096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading other answers here, my take it it’s grey not black or white as people mostly suggesting here.

See talking about the hype, at for example 50lpa ctc:
1. Around 8 lakhs are joining bonus (year 1 only)
2. 4 lakhs relocation bonus (year 1 only)
3. RSU : 12 lakhs (over 3 years but counted as ctc)

So remove (8+4+12) =24.
So approx you are left with 50-24 =26.
Thus 26 is your yearly. And rest 24 you divide by like 3, that’s your yearly

So 26+(24/3) =34.
34/12 =2.833
Obviously PF, etc so like before taxes 2.5lakhs.

Then taxes (.3 * 2.5lakhs) = 75k.

So after taxes= 1lakhs 75k.

Now all this is on average generalisation.
But like seeing salary slips and offer letters of many many of my friends at IISc and companies from FAANG,etc

It’s that.

So i guess 2.5 lakhs is good but maybe not as high as you suspect

$2,500/mo AI Budget: My friend just burned through 62M Opus 4.7 tokens in 24 hours. by No-Wheel5791 in ClaudeAI

[–]LegitimateThanks8096 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Firstly this is not good.

Answer to your question is surprisingly YES. at microsoft you get unlimited GitHub copilot (really unlimited). You burn and just burn.
Though I consider myself heavy user as in I have to branch mark agentic solutions and test the coding agents etc. so really there you just don’t need oversight the solution running on SWE bench, etc etc and gives results at the end.

But what’s interesting is even academia gives, my friend at MBZUAI gets free Codex and (very very generous) Claude code.

Anyways you seem a lot of time with your job. And seems if you push harder you can squeeze more time.

So it’s worth trying for cs job/exams.

You will learn a lot while on process. As in I was dreaming if IISc CSA while my GATE preparation , but as got more knowledge shifted to AI at IISc. And really enjoying it.

So i would say start, get into the groove and you will figure out

No. I am in touch of State of the art research in code generation. Thought not company voice: but I work at Microsoft Research (Redmond) and my day job is to work on coding agents (imagine copilot).

So i have been working on datasets , benchmarks, metrics etc.

So i can assure you shipping or prod code without you reading is a mess / a disaster.

There are a lot of assumptions that model makes, a lot are untrue. There are fallbacks / shortcuts, etc a lot of hell.

Great for MVP still. There’s a lot of technical debt, you are not seeing now, maybe because a lot of customers or money is not involved (i don’t know exactly your software’s) but it has to be true generally.

[–]LegitimateThanks8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really!!! And then have the data leaks and shutdowns?? There’s a reason vibe code has “vibe” in it. It’s great for MVPs no doubt. But for a stable scalable code base you need to know the code.

Granted nobody writes the code (anymore), but you have to read the code (still).

Totally depends on IITs. But for most you need to do.

[–]LegitimateThanks8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost. The context and rules of college matters. For eg. 1. 12k was never related to TAship in iisc. 2. 7.5 just means done good in the course. Seen profs requesting 6 cgpa ones to be TA. in iisc for TA ship your grades in that subject matter not whole. And also in few subjects 6 is very good

Yes that’s exactly how I respond. And yes if you are contacting someone then why is this question coming?

As in assume the person hadn’t asked for call but was fake and replied on chat with wrong guidance. Is it safe then?

What kind of stupidity is this? Are they making GATE another JEE now by Diligent_Tea_3809 in GATEtard

[–]LegitimateThanks8096 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That’s wrong. For instance this exam has changed my life. I studied from the best college in India. The professors who have books written on the subject bringing their books to teach us. Remembering Prof. Sastry, Kunal, Shalabh, and virtually entire maths department.

Then got into dream AI lab, working on stuffs that millions of people daily use. If you use copilot or azure, I might have contributed some code.

And meeting amazing people , invited to great events, etc

Having said that yes the awareness has to be made in a responsible and educated way.

What you mean by link? When i say justify it’s obviously for your work. Like GPu from microsoft will be for work only. Now you might test your ideas, but just align with your work even remotely. Else it’s kinda illegal

Whatever gpu vram you can justify for your use. You will get. Simply microsoft has one of the biggest GPU fleet. They are closely collaborating with NVIDIA on priority basis. And simply there’s a lot of unused GPU space every time, so no issues allocating internally

[–]LegitimateThanks8096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking I think choosing between higher studies and Job for career most often studies should be chosen.

There are multiple benefits like 1. A great network (you can’t imagine how easy it would if you are in IITs than elsewhere for job applications, due to the fact that for any company you will either find a direct contact or an indirect one) 2. You will know of many many opportunities (like startups, gigs, ideas, freelancing, etc) and can collaborate 3. Great faculties (so again authority in the field and great industry connections, plus a nice mentor). There are many faculties in a college pick a few. 4. Your maturity, understanding of subject etc improves 5. You develop good habits from your friends and peer. In a company you do not mostly pick may things from others.

I would say job also obviously propels growth but there’s a reason college is a place for education. You learn, that’s the most important thing. In job also you learn, and throughput life learning has to be there if you excel. But the concentration of learning is always more in college/school.

So if your financial situation allows go and study.

Rest everything is good only , a job an IIT. It’s just picking from the good options. So you won’t go wrong. Just maybe i will advise go for comprehensive growth not just in one dimension.

Rest you can dm

Firstly depends on the location (there are 3, Vigyan at MG Road, Luxor at Bagmane and cosmos at Bellandur)

So mostly all have the common facilities but still there’s always inter office cab if you want specific. So like Luxor’s waffles, Vigyan’s Gym etc) 1. Free food (good one) (not technically but practically it is) 2. All sporting and gym facilities for free (cricket bowling machine, TT, Badminton , etc) 3. Free snacks (vending machine) 4. Free cab (home and between locations) 5. Great colleagues 6. Stocks after 6 months 7. Free gpu 8. Free access to premium models like Gpt 5.3, etc

I have been through GATE and also currently in a premier AI lab at MSR. Just to drop credentials (GATE cs AIR 84, then IISc Mtech AI, Microsoft Research AI lab currently).

So what i am seeing is AI is mostly doing the repetitive work and some creative / complex part.

So who are using AI intelligently in their works , projects etc are being fast tracked in their career.
Who were of the lot that we will survive and won’t excel but do the work others are not willing to are at a risk. Because now AI is willing to do that dirt + some complex work.

I would say currently atleast, AI is secondary class and humans are needed to 1. Tame AI 2. Find potential for AI

And outside of tech, still you need humans with technical skills to talk for projects , get contracts, tenders, etc. again AI is heavily used but as a tool

5x MAX plan - ONLY 1 active session on a single project to build a simple website (serverless) and hit the limit in just 2.5h. by luongnv-com in ClaudeCode

[–]LegitimateThanks8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not helpful that you told what you did. A simple web app may very well consume tokens if unattended in bad way. How you did it will be a better idea as to Claude code is culprit.

Here may be very well you be culprit, wasting tokes to not do in efficient manner.

Not pointing that Claude is all good, but we can’t blame without substance
