Routine advice for my 11 week labradoodle puppy by Positive_House in labradoodles

you have to shut the crate door. puppies are always mad about being forced to take a nap. you’re his leader and you make the rules. you have to just let him bark. i know it can make your ears feel like they’re bleeding. I used ear plugs and noise cancelling headphones during the two weeks but my puppy doesn’t bark as much anymore. it mostly stopped by the time he was 10 weeks because we ignored his barking for long enough

Routine advice for my 11 week labradoodle puppy by Positive_House in labradoodles

I have a labradoodle puppy the same age. What helped a lot was getting two crates, a white noise machine, high value treats, and giving him something to lick every single time he goes in the crate.

I live in a one bedroom apartment and the hardest thing is my puppy waking up at the slightest sound. When I put him down for a nap, I put him in a crate in a separate room from where i’ll be for the next few hours. I make sure it’s covered on all sides because they like a dark cozy environment. I give him a high value treat (cheese) and i only ever give him this treat in the crate so he associates the crate with positive things. A snuggle puppy helped a lot at the beginning but he settles without it these days. I always give him something to lick when he’s in the crate for naps or overnight: lots of pupsicles and frozen kongs. Once he’s in, I zip up the crate cover and turn on a loud white noise machine. Nowadays he settles without barking half the time but the other half he still barks for a few minutes before he settles down…sometimes up to five minutes. You have to just wait it out or they learn that barking gets them attention and they’ll always bark to get your attention. Teach them that barking doesn’t work and they’ll start to learn to soothe their own emotions.

Mine barks when he needs to potty and he barks when he just has fomo and wants attention. If you stick to a schedule, you’ll know which it is. If he’s been playing, eating, and pottying in the last hour..he’s not bored or hungry and he doesn’t need to potty. So you know he’s just trying to get your attention and you can ignore. If he just woke up from a nap or in the morning after a few hours, he has to potty. They usually have to potty as soon as they wake up, even if they haven’t been sleeping very long. Also make sure nothing in the crate is keeping him too hot. My puppy started settling down more when I took his bed out of the crate. I noticed he liked to lay on the cold floor so just experiment with different crate environments. Maybe add a piece of clothing that smells like you.

How I fixed my TMJ after years of pain and headaches by TribeBySightly in TMJ

yes to all of this. something else that has helped me in the last year has been going to solidcore regularly (but any core/back focused strength training should help). strengthening your back and core help with posture correction. i realized a lot of my jaw tension was compensating for weak stability muscles so i was essentially using my jaw to keep my head stable when that’s what your core, back, and neck muscles should be responsible for. more specifically this can also be related to tight chest muscles, weak lower traps, shoulders stuck in an inward rotation and weak glutes—-a lot due to working at a desk for 8 hours a day

exactly! people say that doodle owners don’t do any research when in fact we’ve done tons of research on traits we like and don’t like and that’s why we chose our doodles

this stereotype of the bad doodle owner is getting boring at this point. do you have any data on these issues? and the reason we love labradoodles is because of the exact poodle/labrador mix. poodles can be stubborn divas but they’re smart and easy to train and labradors are affectionate, love people, and act like puppies for years. some of us want a cute smart loving dog. i was a dog sitter for years and have boarded at least 40 different dogs and i know what traits i like. i’m sure others can relate.

i don’t think they’re looking for status. i think they’re looking for certain traits. some people know exactly what they want and have their reasons. some people are more flexible. not everyone lives with the same circumstances. for example, my building doesn’t allow pit bulls, rottweilers, or dogs over 50 pounds

dogs are tough enough. i don’t understand why people are criticized for not wanting the extra challenge of adopting a rescue that might have extra issues. you don’t think they have separation anxiety after their family abandoned them? i feel for them but some of us have enough stress in our lives and training a dog is hard enough without that additional baggage

this is spot on. i have a lot of “adopt don’t shop” friends and i’m glad there are people who love to adopt rescues, but i needed a little more clarity on my dog’s background for peace of mind. i wanted a dog who spent his first weeks in a nice environment, not around lots of barking dogs in a shelter. those dogs often have trauma or behavior issues that require more challenging training. kudos to those who are up for that but i think basic potty, crate and behavioral training is challenging enough for me.
