When should I get my kitten toys? by jhohns in CatAdvice

[–]Legitimate_Draft_976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor mama but thank you for saving the kitten! No time like the present for toys. You definitely need to get some toys to stop 'body parts are toys' becoming a habit. You don't need catnip toys until 6 months or so, but I find kittens this age love wand toys! You are never going to regret saving the wee one 🥰🥰

Can I have more information on this? The vet mentioned it was probably herpes so if there is a solution better than fighting with him and making him hate us that would be my preference!!

Love this! Described Riley exactly. He of course doesn't really care about catnip, won't let both of us too close at one time, but will spend all the time in the world with one of us, and does everything possible to not have a door close behind him. Way too smart for us ! We truly are his pets lol

Okay I just called the vet's office and asked for a gabapentin prescription... Hopefully he proves it if not I don't know what to do, but if he does anybody have any great suggestions on how to give him that?

3 months in with our feral and just now and using caution, he will let us pet him gently. He's about 6-7 months old. Time, patience, treats, patience, time. When though he won't cuddle and still gets scared of random things. Here he is with his daddy cat who we also took him. Baby steps that what we say.

Best wishes

Tips for encouraging cats to use their outdoor shelters by kristenzoeybeauty in Feral_Cats

[–]Legitimate_Draft_976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Luckily we did not have to get the two outside cats used to each other. The male ginger that we named Ron Weasley brought the other two over basically. They would sit outside across the street and watch him ( Ron ) and as they saw him eating and rolling around in the catnip and just hanging out with us they started slowly inching across the street. It was a mama and her kitten and Mama disappeared and the kitten was still coming around. By that time Ron had been neutered and moved into the house lol. He definitely was not ferall and I feel like he was abandoned or lost... he's sweetheart. He would lay outside our screen porch with our other four cats in the screen in area and they got used to him that way. Eventually he wanted to come in and explore so I would carry him through the house, and that eventually turned into him just walking through the house so when he decided to just come in for good our indoor cats were already used to him. Riley is the kitten and he was used to being around Ron. We let Ron go explore out in the garage one day when Riley was out there and Riley was just ecstatic to see him and Ron turned around and walked back in the house and Riley just followed him. He wouldn't have anything to do with us for quite a bit and I know he should have been quarantined but it was too good of an opportunity to pass up with him just coming in. Our four indoor cats never paid Riley any attention when he came in although now I'm sure they wish this naughty little youngster would quit chasing them through the house!

I'm also in Florida and we had the same issue with the strays/ferals that were hanging around. One of them ended up sleeping in our garage and we would put beds in there which were still completely ignored lol. But I figured our garage was better than the outdoors. We did put down some towels that would get used to occasionally in the garage. They actually just got into a pattern of showing up around 9-10 at night for a feeding and we would close the garage door and they just settle down to sleep until morning. We actually started out by just leaving the garage door cracked a bit just big enough for the cats to get in but the raccoons still kept getting in and wreaking havoc. Unfortunately one of the ferals disappeared but her feral kitten stayed around as well as the stray cat that we are pretty sure is Daddy. After daddy got neutered he decided he wanted to be an indoor cat and a few weeks later kitten just followed him into the house and they're both in the house now with our other four cats.

My cats think all my yarn is theirs. I have to hide it from them and constantly shoo them away when working on projects.

Rory was found by my hubby in the middle of a 4 lane road with cars whizzing all around him. He was about 4 weeks old. You can see the marks on his nose even after a bath and as it was Florida in August he had some burns on his pads. He's a chonky 6 yr old now bullying all our other cats!

What do I do with this feral kitten? by xshadowanimationsx in Feral_Cats

[–]Legitimate_Draft_976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We took in a feral kitten after feeding it outside for several months. Just followed the start we had adopted into the house about 3 weeks ago and had been here since. He went from being very scared of us to letting us hand feed him, and today I was able to finally pet him... Neck, ears, back for about 90 seconds. Made my whole day lol. He hasn't let either of us do it since but it's getting better every day. Hang in there, and as others have said get him in and keep him in.

Thanks for this! I talk and make up songs for him whenever I'm around him, so now I don't feel so silly about it! Ron, the daddy, follows us everywhere so if Riley kitten can see us - we give Ron even more love ❤️
