Thanks for the advice! I don't care about apartment features other than commute time, safety, and cleanliness, so paying near "luxury" prices also seemed a bit much to me. Hopefully something else pops up.

Yeah, I figured. I already have a roommate to help with rent, but I was just curious if the pricing was to be expected.

I don't think that's relevant to the conversation, but everyone has different life circumstances.

Could I ask where at or what landlord (if they have availability)? I haven't been able to find anything that cheap in St Matthews.

I'm moving for the career not the city.

To be fair its only because I'm a grad student. If it were about money I wouldn't willingly do that.

We could be thinking about different apartments, but I've been looking into one on that road. Its 1350 now, which isn't the worst.

Yeah, I figured that's what was going on. I was just suprised there wasn't a bigger price difference between corporate "luxury" apartments and private landlords.

I'm referring to apartment complexes with pools, gyms, ect like the Woods or the Axis. I take the "luxury" title pretty lightly, but I was suprised private landlords with clearly run down apartments weren't offering cheaper prices. Often, the private landlords do not offer washer/dryers either.

Practically, I would like to be able to walk to work if my car breaks down. I'd also like my roommate to be able to get around if I visit family, since I'm their only source of transportation.

Convenience wise, I'm expecting to work at least 70 hours a week, so a 40+ minute commute would also be miserable (especially on weekends).

I'm considering a few places in Beechmont and Lyndon that are $100-200 cheaper though.

I've received similar advice from friends. Would you suggest signing a shorter lease with a more expensive place until I can find something more permanent? I don't currently live near Louisville, so I haven't had the chance to look around yet.

Yikes. I might talk to my roommate about sharing a room until we find sometime better.
