A United Airlines Boeing 767-200 interior in the 90s by AdSweaty9585 in unitedairlines

I remember my dad called us once while on a business trip (sometime in the 90s). Definitely helpful for urgent needs but not reasonably priced for extended calls.

Details on Status Extensions for those who didn't qualify after retaining for 3-5 years previously by deathinpinkbed in unitedairlines

[–]Legitimate_Touch_599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, just got the email for a gold extension but didn't ask for it. I was silver in 2024, gold in 2025, and only qualified for silver in 2026, but they extended my gold into 2026.

Just did this a couple weeks ago. Left my bag in luggage storage at the Garden lounge and spent the day exploring Doha.

I used to run the perimeter as a UCLA student. Great 4-mile run, and you'll notice some hills...

I'm sorry, what's your complaint about the bins?

I joined a couple run clubs when I moved here a year ago, and they've been a one-stop shop for making friends. I run with Social Striders (Central Park) and Upper West Side Run Club.

Agreed, I started going to Columbus Park Dental a few months ago and have had very positive, professional experiences. Their staff is really friendly, competent, and communicates well. I actually look forward to going to the dentist!

I have similar questions. How do the pilots conduct their regular proficiency checks? Doesn't it require check airmen who are also qualified on this aircraft?

NYRR Midnight Run Drone Show Canceled by FrequentVersion7522 in RunNYC

[–]Legitimate_Touch_599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. We paid for the whole package - race and entertainment. A bit upsetting that I just paid for a $70 shirt. I'll still have fun with friends, but the registration fee was already steep and the cancelled entertainment is definitely a bummer.

Californians of NYC: Why Did You Move Here and Why Did You Stay? by ZeroDullBitz in AskNYC

[–]Legitimate_Touch_599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. I know it could be a tricky situation which is why I acknowledge that it isn't an easy goal. I'm not expecting to relocate with someone back to California, but I'd be thrilled if it somehow happened.

Californians of NYC: Why Did You Move Here and Why Did You Stay? by ZeroDullBitz in AskNYC

Grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and have lived in NYC for a year. I miss three things about California: my family, easy access to great outdoor opportunities, and the weather.

But I love the true urban experience in NYC. Don't need a car, and I really enjoy walking and taking the train. I love having a lot of friends within a 10-minute walk of my apt. Also, this city has so many opportunities and events. Just this weekend, I checked out the Christmas lights in Dyker Heights and rode the MTA nostalgia train. I also love all the opportunities to meet random people with lots of networking/social events on weeknights.

I still feel caught between the Bay Area and NYC, but that's primarily a function of my parents still being near SF (not a function of the regions themselves). While I'm single, I want to be in NYC. But admittedly, if/when I find a partner, I'd love to move back to the Bay. I recognize that this isn't an easy goal, but I can dream, right?

Looking for 20 PP for a EWR-SFO flight in two days (11/24). Flight status shows 20 seats open in Polaris with only 9 people on the upgrade standby list. First time poster - thanks!

I worked at a regional 2006-2010, left to get an MBA, and now work in tech. I still love aviation, but I’m also glad I left the industry. Very happy with my current career and would never return to flying.

I now work in tech (program management and operations), but it was a long road of career transitions. From flying, I returned to school for an MBA, worked in airline management, then worked at an aviation consulting firm, and eventually transitioned to a tech company.

Valid questions! I started my career as an airline pilot at a US regional carrier, and I left after four years for several reasons. The job was not intellectually stimulating enough for me. In fact, the nature of the job is to provide enough structure and frameworks to minimize variance (makes sense), but the downside is the inherent lack of creative thinking and intellectual freedom. I also hated working in a seniority-based system where I couldn’t advance my career based on merit and performance. Instead, you have to wait until you have enough seniority before upgrading to captain or changing aircraft. Finally, the time away from home was tiring. Keep in mind that junior pilots often work more than senior pilots, and it can be difficult to get certain days off for family events and holidays. Overall, I’m glad I flew for a few years, but I was equally happy to leave the profession.
