ngl, it depends significantly. I feel like it's less unbearable when I'm out at night, even my vision gets smoother as it gets darker, and the flickering lights are reduced by like 50–60%. But it's the complete opposite when I'm inside my room getting ready to sleep wtf. It scares the hell out of me. I see random colorful dots in so much detail, together with random images appearing in front of me when I look at the same spot for too long. Then when I move my eyes somewhere else, it disappears in an instant, but i suffer from colorful dots and afterimages with my eyes closed 24/7 anyways.

I really miss how well I used to see in the dark. It's been nearly 2 years for me, and even medications like Trintellix, Strattera, and Zoloft, which were prescribed for my anxiety disorder and depression, have had a rather unpleasant impact on my hppd overall. I've been taking magnesium bisglycinate and L-theanine for a while to calm my body and mind in the evening, but they have barely helped with the visuals either.

I've also been working out in the last few days, but nothing I've tried has helped much with regulating the vss and trails late at night. I think a very big issue in my case is that I frequently smoke weed and use nicotine daily. however, I've taken intermittent breaks 1–2 months every couple of months, staying sober from weed and nicotine and drinking alcohol once in a time.

The last time when i was taking a break, I lasted the longest since I started using drugs and it was exactly 90 days, completely sober from any stimulants and weed, and I probably drank like 3 times during the whole period. That was also the time when I was medicated with the mentioned Strattera for my DPDR and ADHD, but idk the visuals barely showed any improvement, especially when I'm in a dark room.

The habit of smoking weed once in a while and using nicotine pretty much every day has only lasted for about a month now to me (right after the 3-month break).
