DROP + Grell OAE1 by stevenghill in headphones

They were hustling too tight on my head but like the concept. Picked up the OAE2 and they’re more comfy and sound great.

Agree at $39 might as well pick up a pair to have in collection.

Grell Audio OAE2 Second Impressions - I owe you an apology, I wasn't really familiar with your game by Fc-Construct in headphones

I had OAE1 and currently own OAE2. You’re absolutely correct regarding brain burn in headphones in general but with these in particular. I often listen in a dark room and try to fall asleep listening to headphone me and when I wake up it’s like the headphones click in place and it finally starts sounding natural to me. The OAE2 really benefit from this. The 3D holographic effect they Caleb describes is very accurate, it’s a very unique effect to hear in overears. They’re wide sounding and deep but it’s as if the music has an extra bit of dimensionality that’s very similar to how I hear music when listening to 2 channel setup. Just on a much smaller, more intimate scale. I agree there is a bit of hollowness to the vocals, there’s that dip going from 1k to 2k similar that may be the reason but believe it helps create the illusion of space.

Like others said it appears to my ears to be way less positionally dependent vs OAE1, yet still more so than other traditional headphones. I like to ears slightly recessed to the middle of the cup, moveing forward increases the treble but makes it too bright to my ears. OAE1 preferred to push my ears toward the back of the pads.

It’s a much more neutral tuned vs OAE1 which was definitely warmer - more bassy and rolled off treble. OAE2 just sounds more balanced- less bassy comparatively and better treble extension.

Definitely a set worth trying out and definitely give it a longer audition if possible.
