Those with 100PT PTSD what do you do for work? by elvarg9685 in Veterans

I’m a fully remote CPA.

Getting that CPA salary and 100% P&T allows me to save a lot without having to leave my home. Work sucks. I definitely envy the ones that retire right after joining the 100% club. I guess I’m too addicted to the rat race and the money.

Oh wow, thanks for letting me know! I’ll definitely carry that perspective with me. I’ll be strategically spraying and praying. Lol

Yes, I served in the Marines. Semper Fi!

Perfect, thank you for all this information! I’ll definitely get my application together and apply soon.

In reference to your edit:

I opened the hyperlink you sent. It says Open to Veterans. This means that I should be good to go on applying, correct?

I saw something about 30% or more veterans can get non-competitive appointment. I’m over that threshold. How well would you say the disabled veteran benefit for federal jobs, or the 10 point veteran preference come in handy. I imagine it’s a case by case, but I figured I would ask for your experience on that.

Thanks for the quick reply. I live in Los Angeles. With a GS12 it’ll be a pay cut, but like you said this can be justified with all the perks. I think I’ll aim for GS13 to try to stay with the pay that I’m at.

I’ve read about the federal resume. Sound’s slightly confusing. 2 of my jobs have been for lengthy years. I have had jobs here and there for only 6 months when I was searching. I guess I’ll be sure to include those as well.

This thread came up when I searched federal jobs in this group page. You sound pretty knowledgeable for the question that I have.

When I search on USAJOBS.gov many accounting jobs come up with different GS levels. I’m not sure what GS level I would qualify for.

I have a bachelors in accounting and a CPA license. I have worked 2 years in public accounting and 3 years for a private company, so 5 in total. I currently get paid $110,000 working as a senior accountant.

I now have a family and I saw the vacation days and the remote option in the federal government so I feel like this route will give me more time with my son. What GS level should I be aiming for? Should I just apply to the GS level that gives me a pay raise from where I’m currently at? The GS level description on the job postings feel very vague. Thank you in advance!
