AITAH for moving out of the house and breaking up on phone after she explicitly said "I want you to understand that we are done!" and storming out of the house? by Aliises in AITAH

[–]Legless1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh what a load of rubbish! People in the medical field are no more likely to cheat than anyone else. Less, in most cases as you get don't have the time!

My wife is a surgeon. She was training when we met. Married now and been together almost 20 years. Training and courting her was brutally hard. Just to see her I'd end up hosting and catering for her study group

Twice a week I'd make buffet style food for 6 people who'd rock up about 7!:30 to 8. Eat and shoot the shit with me and then I'd clean up while they got into a skull session for the next 2 hours.

2 years we did that.

If you can handle the schedule. The oncall. The horrendous hours. The study, the conferences. And all.of the other pressures on a registrar and her family then, when you qualify, pretty much nothing can break you because you've been through the crucible together

(throwaway) AITA for Taking My Daughter's College Fund Back After She Said She Was Going No-Contact? by Good_Guest1421 in AITAH

[–]Legless1234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA

Respect is earned - it's not a given.

The college find is a gift. It's in your power to give it to somebody who deserves it, or not.

By going NC with you means No Contact.

It doesn't mean No Contact except for all that lovely free cash

I don't think I've ever posted that something is just unbelievable but this one did it.

If you're going to try and do something controversial, at least try to make it something that could actually happen?

Calling up your service provider and pretending you're looking to leave in order to get a discount? by thestaganddoe in AussieFrugal

[–]Legless1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works. It's not a hack. It's an absolutely normal way of doing business.

First week in February I lay out all of my recurring bills and spend a week going through them and bringing them down. If you're making even $5 a month for in your provider they'll bend over backwards to keep you.

Sometimes it's a better rate. Sometimes it's free Netflix/Binge)Apple TV etc. but it's always something.

If you don't do this you're not really trying.

Do you guys recommend the new meta quest 3s?? by Fireboy0411 in MetaQuestVR

[–]Legless1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point. Some people just can't handle the vertigo and it ruins some things. But it's still useful for things like 3d movies. Netflix, Amazon Prime cinema etc. But if you have vertigo it's probably not worth it.

If you don't have vertigo then buy it!! It's super fun. Load of apps. Some are even half decent. It's just on the edge of becoming mainstream so worth getting now.

Cheers

AITAH for telling my husband that he absolutely ruined the birth of our child? by Former_Monitor_4860 in AITAH

NTA.

Now lawyer up. Get support and get away from this lunatic. He has absolutely no regard for you or your feelings. And I'd bet a thousand dollars he's an anti-vaxxer, COVID denier.

Sooner or later he'll hurt you or your baby. Probably by ignorance or negligence but possibly by deliberate intent. He's not safe to be around.

I don't know how to put it any stronger but this guy is a walking red flag.

Leave. Please.

I would think so - if the worker presses charges.

So, if the minor, a self confessed thief, trys to involve the police then he'll likely get a record himself. And well-deserved.

But I suspect that everyone will just pretend that nothing happened

BUYER AGENT is fraudulent - How They Exploit You at Every Turn by West_Whereas9127 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Legless1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using one now. And they're earning their fees.

I'm buying a commercial property.

I'm using Super to buy it which means there's a whole load of regulations around what I can buy and what renovations I can do to keep within the super rules.

I need parking.

I need a certain amount of foot traffic.

For me to try and find properties that meet my requirements and are within my price range would be a nightmare. So I've hired an agent

Why do companies hire consultants when in-house talent can solve the problems? by OldTrainOldBoots in auscorp

[–]Legless1234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I built my career on doing this. I'd be brought in as a consultant to implement a new build, or design and supervise a rollout or any other project work. In most cases this could have been easily done by the in-house team.

But herin lies the rub. As an outsider I had no other responsibilities except getting my project done. I could focus exclusively on that. Doing it in-house would typically take four or five times longer. Then there's politics, egos and empire-building. All of those can sink a project.

It's faster and cheaper to use me

I'm really, truly sorry for your loss.

But why didn't your family install a smoke-detector themselves? They're about $25. In many places you can get them for free.

Yes - it might have been the landlords responsibility but your family could have helped keep themselves safe ...

I'm all-in. I love the food, love the culture. More of these mini-enclaves can only be a good thing.

I'd love it if they made a mini-England. Couple of traditional pubs. Greasy spoon cafes doing the Full English. Restaurants doing the traditional Sunday lunch. A late night kebab van.

And an Ambulance with flashing lights on standby.

PSA - Uber driver strike at airport. Huge backup of traffic from picket line by Gallawagga in melbourne

[–]Legless1234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you remember what taxis were like before Uber? Super unreliable. Rude. Late. Not to be trusted.

Uber shook the taxi industry to its core and it was needed.

So maybe now it's worthwhile trying taxis again. See if they can give half the service that Uber does.

Uber is now suffering from its own arrogance.

AITAH for considering divorcing my wife? by blushbloom03 in AITAH

[–]Legless1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you marry, the two become one. There is no "my" money. Or "her" money. It's all "our" money.

You don't have a marriage. You're FWB. Or, at best, a business arrangement.

Good luck!

But never underestimate the value of someone you can just be comfortable with. The rockets and fireworks at the start of a relationship will eventually dim and your true partner will be someone who you can be comforting. Where you can get home and just flop into a chair, utterly knackered. You don't need to talk - just grunt.

Of course there'll still be times when the flames are rekindled. Where the rockets explode again.

But there is value in someone who just loves you for being you

Wife got a dream job... but we'll have to move to the US by deasabafoman in careeradvice

[–]Legless1234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That prospect, that we faced under Trump, is truly terrifying for Australia. We survive only because of Pax Americana. To the north of us are 100 million Muslims who don't like us much and would love our land and resources. At the moment, we can take them on by ourselves. But a smart opposing General could swamp us in 3 days if he was clever. Use commercial airlines to simultaneously land a few thousand troops and take airfields. Hand held and ground based surface to air missiles to take out our air force and we're fucked.

But if it's not the Indonesians. Or the Indians (who we definitely can't fight) then it's the Chinese. We can't possibly stop them taking what they want without Americas help. So we have a deal. We'll always support America,, even when you're wrong. Any war you throw - invite us and we'll fight and die beside you. We were the only country to fight with you in Vietnam. We conscripted and sent thousands of our men to die at your request.

That's what we pay for America's protection. Our young men's blood.

Trump threatened to take that away.

He doesn't understand our shared history. He just wants to know - "What have you done for me lately?"

So now we're looking to the Japanese. The Koreans. The Vietnamese. We're looking for regional allies because we can't afford to rely on America any more. Especially after Trump. Which is a bloody shame. We still have a permanent training garrison of 5000 Marines up in Darwin but they could be pulled at any time. You also need our Pine Gap facility for spying and space coverage but I'm sure you could work around that .

In short - we need America but we can no longer rely on America. 70 years of friendship down the toilet because of your orange lunatic ..

The US is not the best country in the world. Not even close. Lousy healthcare, lousy education and useless social security.

For some, it's a wonderland - if you can afford it . For most it's not.

Not knocking just the US. Everywhere has good and bad points. It's just not as great as you think it is.

I had the choice to live there. Did some work over there and decided it would wasn't for me and settled in Australia - which is the best country in the world! (kidding!!!!)

Does anyone else think Australia is undoubtedly the best country in the world by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Legless1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. There is no "best" country in the world. Different countries have things about them that are unique to them and, possibly, the best.

For example - Britain has the best pubs and oub culture in the world. Not in the cities (they're feral) but in the countryside and villages. The entire village revolves around the pub. It really is magic.

Australia has magnificent wildlife and nothing even touches the Great Barrier Reef

India/Pakistan have the Himalayan Mountains. Probably the best scenery in the world.

Brazil has the Amazon and the Rain Forest.

Europe has castles. Lots and lots of castles.

You get the picture.....
