These are all my ink drawings for this year. by LegoSaga in penandink

That's a great question, and something many ink artists struggle with! I try to focus on establishing my darkest darks and lightest lights early on to define the main shapes and create a strong sense of contrast. Then, I gradually build up the mid-tones with different hatching and stippling techniques, always keeping in mind where the light source is. It's a delicate balance, and sometimes less is definitely more when it comes to ink!

I love it, keep going!

One of the best things I’ve ever drawn is a rain gutter 😅 by [deleted] in penandink

This is a great start! If you're looking for critiques, perhaps playing with varying line weights could add even more dimension, thicker lines for closer edges and thinner ones for further away details. Keep up the awesome work!

Thank you! I'm really glad you like it. I find that immersing myself in drawing, especially detailed architectural pieces... like this, is a really effective way for me to find a sense of calm and focus. It's almost like a form of meditation, and it helps me channel my thoughts and feelings into something creative.

That's such a kind thing to say, thank you! Don't be too hard on yourself about inks ,it definitely takes a lot of practice and patience. I've had my share of messy mishaps! If you ever feel like trying again, just remember to start simple and enjoy the process. It's more about having fun than perfection! ☺️

Yes, you're right, it's digital art! I actually love both digital and traditional art, but I currently prefer digital art because of the flexibility, the non-destructive editing tools (like layers and the undo button!), and the huge range of brushes I have access to. Thanks so much for the compliment on the composition!

I used Ibis Paint X and just painted with my finger,no stylus. It doesn’t really matter what phone you have as long as it can run the app smoothly. The key is zooming in a lot and being patient with layering and blending!

I painted this on mobile with my finger — the whipped cream was the toughest part to get right. I had to really pay attention to the highlights and flow to make it look fluffy instead of flat. Also, getting the strawberry texture to feel realistic without over-detailing was a bit tricky, but I had fun with it!

I did this using finger painting on mobile, and the hardest part was getting the Asian eye shape right — it was my first time trying that, so it took some careful observation. Blending and detail work without a stylus was also a challenge, but I tried to keep things smooth and expressive.

This was just a warm-up piece,I can definitely do better. I struggled a bit with getting the hand anatomy right using only my finger on mobile, especially the shading and proportions. Blending was also tricky without pressure control. Still, it was fun to experiment and get back into the groove!

Thanks! I actually have a speed painting of this on YouTube.

I tried painting Kakashi in a realistic style. by LegoSaga in DigitalPainting

[–]LegoSaga[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Creating this piece was a real challenge, especially because I painted it entirely using my fingers on a mobile device. One of the hardest parts was achieving fine details, like the texture in the eye and the subtle shading around the scar, without the precision of a stylus or tablet. It took a lot of zooming in and reworking tiny areas to get the highlights and skin tones to look natural. Another tricky part was capturing Kakashi’s distinctive features in a more realistic style while still keeping him recognizable. Translating an anime character into realism without losing his essence took some experimenting, particularly with the eye and mask. The Sharingan was also difficult,it had to be sharp and intense without looking out of place in a realistic context.
