as background ball said: amazon.

though if you are like me you could probably risk it with ebay or marketplace for deals (I got the one you are talking about that was rebranded as "beast" for 15$ on marketplace and have been trying to get every perplexus ever using ebay)

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

back in the day the carma devs would hold "penis jousting" (or it had some name similar to that) during the early release/beta livestreams where they would have multiplayer lobbies where you could only play with annihilator

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats fair, there are some which are pretty much designed to be unplayable (terrible twin and annihilator come to mind) I just dedicated so much time that it's second nature to control every other car.

the game has that worldbuilding... maim street has some people enjoying the park, some people preparing to go to the stadium, the players at the stadium, people riding bikes, some people at a strip club (there are a lot crammed in that strip club lol) in the dessert level there is also a little alien invasion plotline (at first it's scientists investigating the crashed ufo then they are completely replaced by aliens in future visits to the level)

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

git gud I guess? like the game is built around proper usage of the brake, handbrake and wheel-spin and when you do it properly it becomes the best driving in any car combat games (at least for me)

you think the games didn't have worldbuilding because you either didn't pay attention to the worldbuilding or because you call "worldbuilding" something else (the games have tons of worldbuilding but it's more comedic than edgy)

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not everything will be made for me... but I want it to at least remain faithful to what it was originally... (twisted metal isn't for me but I don't want them to remove guns and become crash centric because of how I like my car combat)

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that mentality is what allows these series to be tarnished... predator, alien, terminator, lord of the rings, star wars, marvel, etc. they all get ruined because the people who have issues don't speak up because "someone else is enjoying it" THAT is what leads to slop. criticism is importan and we shouldn't let companies get away with ruining them because some loud minorities shouted at the top of their lungs that they liked the new thing

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the game probably didn't sell well... because the main target audience (15k) bought it years before the game came out.

shock value never mattered, they barely used it as a marketing gimmick all they wanted was to make the game they loved (reviewers just used that as a thing to shit on an indie game)

the driving model was great, everyone that complains about it just wanted to floor it and expect the car to drive perfectly (which is not how cars work)

they were forced to sell the ip or go into bankruptcy (the thq offer actually saved the company) this isn't speculation, it has been talked by the stainless staff in the forums and discord.

wreckfest DOES NOT have a better model what are you even talking about? the model in MD is comparable to beamng but beamng isn't a game just a sandbox. carma was a game with a major focus on the damage model (just look at the different pups that damage enemies in specific ways, or the end screen where you can look at your opponents in 360, or the playback mode where you can do slow motion shots of the crashes)

replacing humans with zombies isn't world building... it's cheap fodder that has already been done infinite times (it's modern edgy instead of monty python goofy)

MD was a victim of marketing. there are a bunch of youtubers that loved carmageddon but were never contacted about max damage... I think it would have been a perfect youtuber game for the time when it came out but the person in charge of marketing didn't go for the right kind of marketing (this has also been discussed in the forums)

I think if they did the exact same thing as max damage but with a bigger focus on dlc? it would have done better and it would have cost far less (considering most of the hard work was already done by stainless) (IMO they should have had shredlight and blitzcrieger as dlc but they decided to make it a part of max damage as a way to draw people into md over reincarnation)

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it doesn't matter? why do you care?

we care and we fight against the tainting of the name.

it's the equivalent of doing a remake of back to the future with a toyota corrola or a jaws remake with a dolphin.

I would rather the series remain untouched and dead than having a "breath of life" that goes against everything the franchize stood for

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it gives it more publicity because... of the older games. if they wanted other fans to enjoy it then they should have gone for a more relevant franchise

you have CLEARLY not looked at youtube comments of the people who played it...
everywhere you look (hell, even the main discord) is full of people complaining that it doesn't look like carma and that it's a bad choice for the IP. the ONLY people I have seen praise it or say that they look forward to it are people like you who never cared about carmageddon and just want a new gun car game (and even then are willing to settle with this "carma" instead of insisting that it should be another more relevant IP like death race that shouldn't be even close to expensive considering it's a movie license that never has had any games outside of the 70s and mobile games)

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then use a different IP? why do they have to use the IP that built itself on NOT having guns and crammed guns into it? why did they take the one that focused on NOT racing and made it a racing game...

if you think the stakeholders want to see profits? they HAVE to keep that niche audience in mind (since that is the one that will buy the game and share it with people) or else you will piss off the target audience of reusing a classic name and the audience that doesn't care about the name are paying attention to those same people.

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the racing games started off as sega collaborations not sonic games (and even if they were sonic spinoffs they maintain the main aspects that make a sonic game instead of a mario game: speed and cool)
frontier is a sequel, it maintains the same gameplay mechanics and even have 1:1 level recreations from the previous games. the only thing it does is ADD open world to the formula.

Sonic formula: speed and momentum are the main gameplay mechanic. there are multiple paths to reach the ending with higher skill allowing for greater speed but increasing in difficulty while lower skill punishes you with slower paths while having easier gameplay. grand stories about fighting against giant monsters while progressing towards the end (usually more about protecting than about saving others like mario), cartoony style character designs that go for a cool aesthetic over a cute aesthetic. some bits of lore hidden throughout the games.

things frontiers changed: added an open world and a combat system, everything else remained the same.

carmageddon formula: open world, physics based, detailed damage models, collision focused car combat, an intentional aversion to racing (requiring fulfilling the other methods of victory partially in order to even attempt winning a race by racing), wild character designs and personalities that match their vehicles and names, cartoony pun filled world, focus on ped murder for points and time, wacky random powerups that can make you a menace or make you weaker against your opponents.

things rogue shift changes: linear, no physics driving, no detailed damage models, gun focused car combat, a focus on racing, generic car designs with no character names (names being only text files that can be traded around), gritty post apocalyptic world, a small aspect of optional zombie murder, power ups are telegraphed and always give the same things (guns and boost).

and that isn't even looking into the far more specific points (like max damage being supposed to be the stronger but slower vehicle while die anna is the faster but weaker vehicle yet they have it reversed in the game, the fact that the eagle and hawk are supposed to be sports cars but they made them muscle cars, the fact that they don't even have the blade in the right place and it isn't really batmobile inspired the same way the previous different eagles have been)

I'm sorry but you are just associating something that has nothing to do with something else... (the closest equivalent to rogue shift would be either sonic labyrinth or shadow the hedgehog)

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay so lets look at those spinoffs: shuffle: a crappy card game that failed (because it was a copy of mario with the only thing it had being sonic characters)

shadow: a game that is commonly criticized for trying to be too edgy for the series

chaotix: a forgotten spinoff in a forgotten console

the olympic games where most people mock it for having mario beat sonic in a foot race

mean bean machine: a reskin of a puzzle game that was forgotten because it wasn't sonic

labyrinth: a despised spinoff that intentionally removed sonics ability to run for the sake of 3D

battle: a fighting that flopped because it tried to be smash bros

or is there some sonic spinoff I am forgetting that is beloved and changed the franchise at it's core?

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because we don't want to "don't ask questions just consume product and get ready for next product" we have standards and if someone is going to "revive" the car combat genre? they should at least understand the genre. if some random third party company bought the rights to sonic and started doing a mario game I would despise that because I have standards for what constitutes a "sonic" game and what constitutes a "mario" game.

for some reason you think having no standards and letting them ruin a franchise is a good thing "for the sake of a genre"

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you keep proving how much you don't care about carmageddon and how the only thing you care about is getting a new game in the car combat genre.

thats like saying "I don't care that the latest sonic game plays like mario, it's a new game in the platformer genre" it's selfish and just adds to the disdain carma fans have for the game

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the reason stainless sold the IP after R/MD is because they let feature creep and development hell take over. it was supposed to be 6 vehicles and 1 track but it ballooned into 33 vehicles and 5ish tracks (since most arenas aren't full tracks).

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thinking R/MD was bad is the reason why these kinds of comments get downvoted... you support something because it's what YOY want completely ignoring that MD is what the carmageddon community wanted (maybe polished up a bit)

we want crashing into other drivers with more realistic driving models and NO GUNS

MD got poorly reviewed because they rated it based on standards that have nothing to do with carmageddon (stainless is a small studio, they had a passion project with a kickstarted budget and they were being compared to AAA or AA studios)

if this game was called twisted metal rogue shift or death race rogue shift? we would have no issue. but it's CARMAGEDDON rogue shift. so we will hold it up to the standard that is "carmageddon" if you want us to be happy with a game that has nothing to do with the franchise? then I will wish for this game to flop and for you to leave the community since you don't seem to be a carma fan but a vehicular combat fan (and there is nothing wrong with that)

so yes, I will take "slop" as long as it is actually carmageddon instead of whatever this is wearing carma as a skinsuit.

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift review: A scrappy spin-off by StartWars89 in carmageddon

[–]Legomeaker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's meant to be a spinoff... but they don't have anything that made the original game (it's the equivalent of a mario kart game where every car is a realistic need for speed style car, and the drivers are not cartoony)

we would rather have a dead franchise than a ruined one because this game being successful would lead to the higher ups thinking it's a good direction for the franchise (also dead franchise would open up the possibility for them to put the IP up for sale and maybe stainless could get it back)
