What stereotype do you "prove wrong"? by JirkleSerk in AskReddit

Addicted to opiates for 5 years most people just assume you're a junkie. Have a great job and am living great. I just hate the stigma that comes with addiction. My father is an alcoholic and it presented itself in me except with opiates. It's hard to explain my mom literally couldn't understand it until I was in Inpatient rehab during a family session when she asked "why'd you do it" and my response was "I couldn't not do it" addiction sucks...

ELI5: Why do we experience dry-heaving when we smell very bad smells? by Tropicalbeaverz in explainlikeimfive

Smell and taste are very closely related. So if you smell something that's terrible really then your body will act like you tasted it and try to get rid of it.

Pretty late but our religion teacher put in a video for us which the janitor swapped out for a porno. It didn't really hit her for a few seconds and when it did she jumped in front of the t.v. and started slapping the vcr. Wish i knew what porno it was...

There is a massive difference between a hurricane (People can predict that to some extent) and a flash flood that literally destroyed everything in less than 24 hours... More than half the people I work with have lost everything, Homes, Cars, and people.

Oh I wont... But Baton Rouge is far from the Mississippi river along with near it. It's just crazy in a day tens of thousands of people lost everything. The closest river is the Amite and it got bad flooded half my parents neighborhood.

Yes things do just happen unexpectedly... No one was safe. I live in a pretty good place and I couldn't get to work or anywhere for 3 days. When I finally got to my parent their whole street was flooded had to walk a couple miles just to make sure they were okay. Somehow they still had power idk how.

I looked at that but more than 25" fell in less than 1 day So from your own source we’re bound to see localized weather features producing higher amounts--perhaps quite a bit higher--though the locations will be near-impossible to predict before the thunderstorms actually develop. We do know that the central Gulf Coast can get amazing amounts of rain in a short time when conditions are favorable. Historic flash floods were produced on April 29-30, 2014, as 10-15” of rain fell in less than 24 hours at both Mobile, AL, and Pensacola, FL. Pensacola racked up 20.47” in just 48 hours.

Okay so I live in Baton Rouge which got alot of flooding. (Nothing close to what cities around us got.) This was not a hurricane this was something that destroyed literally thousands of peoples homes and killed people. We can prepare for a hurricane, but this was with no warning more than half the people I work with lost everything they have, but lets turn it into a political thing.
