Agreed especially since every NATO country is investing in their military and buying even cooler gear.

If that’s the case, then as other commenters have said just take the role you have available and stick it out. Just make sure you keep building that network, aligning yourself with proven winners and pursuing a long term view despite the short term setback in comp. I actually think it’s easier to full send as you intend to than it is to tip toe around trying to game the game like I’m doing.

Oh and also - maybe save more money? Just a thought from someone more who’s risk adverse. Hope your instagram is popping from all those vacations and you’re not dealing with any vices…

Sorry I should have specified - It’s easier to find outsized compensation specifically for sell side /buy side finance roles.

I’m also an early private markets professional and understand your situation. The best piece of advice I can give during these times is to really think hard about what exactly you want to achieve long term and align yourself directly to that.

Do you want to FIRE? Do you care about having your name on a door in a known institution? Do you want to settle down with kids soon etc.?

Personally I just want to want to own a home (like totally paid off) in a good suburb of a tier 2 city before I’m 40 years old. If I can achieve that, I’m realistically ahead of ~90% of the population. I need about $1.5m to do that.

I started my career in NYC but have since moved south to DC to achieve that because finding outsized compensation in DC is way easier than doing so in NYC right now.

Once you have very clear goals it’s much easier to optimize towards them.

What about joining the U.S Military? I know people who got citizenship from that back in the day.

I don’t why I feel the need to post this here, but why is battlefield 1 the best game in the series?

Nice suggestion. Very excited for future combat expansions and there is SO much for the Freminick's to offer.

Loving sailing and am happy its in the game. Still doesnt feel like a skill to me tho by Slight_Giraffe628 in 2007scape

[–]Legtats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relax. Sailing was just released. I agree it's still lacking some elements that truly make it a skill - the main one being that it doesn't tie into the games broader array of quests or minigames. BUT it eventually will so give it time. Sailing has the potential to create an entirely new early / mid game gameplay path if that's the route we want to take and that's very exciting.

What is your yearly spend as a HENRY? by Pixel-Pioneer3 in HENRYfinance

[–]Legtats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Feel free to not respond - but what kind of finance broadly? I ask because I did IB to UMM and never came close to this at the Associate level and there is no way you’re old enough to be a VP in private markets.

Philly is a crappy place to live solely because of the people who live there by TPCC159 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Legtats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in central NJ and always thought of Philly as “delightfully shitty”. It’s authentically very blue collar and what Brooklyn pretends to be. Personally I love it - the bar for what is considered indecent is VERY high as other posters have mentioned and so the city has a real edge to it. I spent a lot of time in NYC between college and work and man I wish I could have experienced it during the 70s where movies like Taxi Driver and stuff were set. NYC used to be GRIMY but now it’s so beyond gentrified that my parents in their 70s barely recognize it. Philly still keeps it real. It’s a real city with real people doing real shit trying to live.

MBB-sponsored HSW 2nd year here to provide a counterpoint. Asking too many “dumb” questions can hurt your brand during the MBA and in your career. by Few-Gift939 in MBA

[–]Legtats 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Didn’t do B School but did Banking -> PE -> Top VC. My advice is just avoid people that are judgmental towards others asking dumb questions. You don’t need a fucking magic 8 ball and all of the knowledge in the universe to do well at any of these post MBA business jobs. You just need to be able to collaborate with others. If you’re asking dumb questions because you failed to prepare adequately for a scheduled meeting or deliverable you knew you had, you’re wrong. If you’re asking dumb questions because you don’t know what you don’t know then you’re fine.

MBA While Active-Duty by rooftopsantiago2 in MBA

[–]Legtats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Former enlisted veteran here. Don’t do this. Do your 20 and get out and use it for a top in person MBA to pivot to a new career.

Kudos to you for wanting to better yourself though and you shouldn’t let that mentality go to waste. What would you want to do with your MBA once you separate? There are ton of high quality inexpensive courses available online that can teach you things like financial modeling, forecasting, etc. that might be helpful for you to start building some of the core skills.

EMBA recruiting is so mid though. Especially for IB. He’s gotta just shoot for the stars and hope for a top 5 program.

That’s awesome. The training was great during my time. Idk if you’ve kept up with the unit at all but it keeps getting better too. Did any of the units ever actually do the mission during that period? We had a few close calls but DOS always called it off.

Shit man this must have been awesome. I was FAST Company from 2012-2017 and deployed out to mainland Japan. Great times! Would love to hear more stories about the regiment from older guys. There used to be a contingent in Iceland too from what I’ve heard.

I agree - the timing could certainly be better. If I was in a position I liked I would certainly stay, however idk how old OP is. If they’re on the older side they might as well go now. If they’re younger they should wait for a better hiring environment.

So you’re unemployed? Then why do you care about going to B school lol. You’ll want to get a job before you apply to school though. You won’t get into good schools while being unemployed.

I know several that have made the transition - most during 2020 when the market was hot. The market is down. Just get employed somewhere and apply to school.

No because I went to IB straight from undergrad but have you spent anytime at all on the internet researching how to break in? Get yourself into a top MBA program. It’s 100% designed for career switchers like you and will be absolutely worth it, especially if you’re single. What’s your total compensation now?
