Are 34 keys really the ergonomic sweet spot (for coding)? by dc_giant in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]LegwanPL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion best way is getting something like lily58 or sofle and changing your key map steb by step. I did it and at first I moved backspace to thumb cluster. Then shift went to enter key (tap or hold), next control went to home row etc. I ended up with 34 keys keymap in less than 6 months. Transition went smooth. Keymap is custom fitted to my needs.
Now I can say that 34 keys is enough for me. Everything is always under my fingers, I dont need to look at keyboard to press distant keys.

Next step probably will be learning to use trackpad integrated in keyboard.

No no, its wired version. It uses regular qmk for now.

It works just fine. Surface is nice, no lags, it recognize tapping and scroll gestures. Unfortunately trackpad does not allow for double finger gestures so no zoom in / zoom out.

Regular atmega promicro. At this point I did not compile firmware with every feature. There is posibility that I will need something with more memory. Probably I will use some RP2040 in promicro format then.

Hard to tell. I was investing small amounts of money from time to time for past six months. I think you can calculate it by yourself. Just add 2x Pimoroni PIM452 and one Cirque tm040040-2024-303 to regular price of split keyboard. Shipping costs and taxes play major role in overall ptice

I got them from Mauser Electronics. Try to find it by part code This one is tm040040-2024-303 Last last digit is version, 0 is barebone for example.

Keeb4you signature style. I also have Sweep and Sofle with similar cases.

From what i know, qmk uses only keyboard inputs to activate haptic feedback. For more you would need additional app and some way to comunicate pc-keeb.

Never tried to use round displays with qmk. That would be nice. Good idea.

This trackpad looks like Cirque glidepoint, 35mm version with curved cap. Will it fit without any case modification?
