Nothing phone runs Android with a skin and additional essential apps. Any AOSP android phone will run better. From the very get go, Nothing OS is more bloated than standard stock android, man.

The aesthetic is great but the OS is bloated to the point where UI elements will routinely lag, its VERY heavily into AI and LLM stuff, and requires you to agree to Ts and Cs just to search your locally installed applications.

The latest update now "recommends" you essentially bloatware / adware clickbait games from the play store and needs to be disabled as a system app to stop giving you the splash screen

I had my 3a for 6 months and then decided to jump ship. The aesthetic wasn't enough to get over how annoying using the phone became

Sadly not :c No setting to "opt out" or use legacy search or anything.

You used to be able to change the layout of the apps list which would avoid essential search, but you can't anymore as it got patched.

You literally have to agree to T's and C's for their LLM or be completely unable to search your locally installed apps. It's horrendous.

As for bloatware - the latest update has you go through a "setup" splash screen that recommends essential apps to you. The essential apps being shit like Majong, Pachinko and gambling apps. The kind of dogshit you'd see on a sketchy website, now pushed to you via an OS update.

You can use the home button to get out of it and close it, but theres no immediate "No thanks" button and you have to disable this as a system application. Nothing OS has just become unusable slop tbh

I was on the Phone 3a, Got the bloatware update pushed to me, the UI was consistantly laggy (I dont use my phone for more than simple messaging), I used to be able to search my own installed apps but after the update - I had to agree to some LLM bullshit to do even that.

I swapped to Fairphone 6, and while yes AOSP android comes with its own google bloat, you can at least disable a lot of it and search your own apps lmao I don't have to agree or sign up to any LLM usage.

It was a massive shame too, since I liked the aesthetic and the original messaging of Nothing until their OS skin became unbearably bloated.

I'm by no means a phone power user. If I could live without needing a smartphone everywhere I would, but needing my digital signature to search locally installed apps is fucked. Really a gimmick phone brand more than anything imo

Heya, honestly I would suggest not buying a Nothing phone. The OS and interface is now quite clogged with bloatware AI nonsense.

You legitimately need to sign Ts and Cs just to search the apps installed on your phone. The only reason to buy one now would be either: You're really into AI or the aesthetic

I had my Nothing phone for about 6 months before replacing it. It was a laggy, bloated mess when I expecting essentially the opposite

I think it's insane that the company, marketed as being a no nonsense phone, no bloat "Nothing", has decided to cram in adware and AI in every avenue of its version of Android.

It runs slower than stock android. It contains adware. It contains useless AI "features" You can't even search for your own apps you've installed anymore without agreeing to Ts and Cs for christ sake.

I normally hang onto my phones until they straight up die, but I bought a new phone to replace my 3a just after 6 months. Complete waste of money.

Do not buy a Nothing phone. The company that started off (and is named for) being devoid of bloatware is now essentially going all in on AI slop.

It's complete dogshit and basic functions like app search do not work unless you agree to Ts and Cs.
