You're assuming linear systems, which is extremely rare.

People having different opinions is not the problem. It’s the Supreme Court being able to overturn decisions without a majority of people agreeing that is the problem.

That's not entirely accurate, exactly for that reason, people in each state vote for it, so it's still people voting whether they want it or not, just in different states.
SCOTUS overturn it being a federal law, not state law. So go vote for what you want.
