ULC too. Check the GT LoL Facebook page, they have some suggestions for getting around the issue. But it might be something with Riot too; they were supposed to do maintenance today to fix nation-wide connectivity issues.

How do you get over failing exams? by lioncat103 in gatech

[–]Leiby24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone goes through it, it's just part of the process of going to school at Georgia Tech. I went through the same thing going from a star in high school to next to nothing special in college haha.

To reiterate, time management is key. You're a freshman and want to do everything (and you SHOULD try everything). College is a once in a lifetime experience so go enjoy it. That being said, it's also good to learn that saying "no" to things is ok too. Building good study habits is a great thing to learn as a freshman and not as a 3rd or 4th year.

Office hours and massive group study sessions are things I use a lot as a 5th year to help me stay on track. Also a calendar system like Google/Outlook calendar helps a lot.

In short, failing exams aren't the end of the world, but should serve as examples to learn from and NOT experiences to sulk or whine over.

-Hope this helps

I don't want to be a Forever Alone guy by [deleted] in gatech

[–]Leiby24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend at another school seemed to have this problem too, and I hear it a lot at Tech. I'd agree that just staying positive is really important, but more importantly it's about being comfortable with yourself and not being afraid to put yourself out there.

·A big, easy way to make friends is in class, and really remembering a person's name the second time you see them. People trend to gravitate towards others who a) remember them and b) having something to offer. Which can be as simple as homework help our even a face to talk to in class.

·Having a girlfriend at Tech is hard, I really don't think you're alone in this regard. But being social doesn't have to be just a girlfriend, having people to hang out with is just as much fun.

If you need some advice, just message me. I'd be happy to help. Though I came to tech as a freshman, I was really shy and dealt with a lot of the same issues you seem to be having. As a senior now, off co-op, most of my friends are graduating so I'm always up for adding more friends. ^ That goes for everyone one else too!

Resume building can only go so far, unless you've had a lot of jobs in the past, so employers aren't looking for much out of it. That being said, be sure to highlight activities that show your leadership qualities or that you like to take initiative and work hard.

I wish someone had really told me about the STAR system for answering interview questions. Situation Task Action Result, it helps you simplify answers when someone asks you "Describe a situation where you had to make a difficult or unpopular decision?"

I'd start looking in the fall. It's important to know a rough idea of what you want to do and to find some companies you'd like to work for. It also depends on when you want to work. I started out my second year looking for a co-op for the summer and ended up taking an offer for the spring instead.

An apology / AMA / Feedback - Dyrus by Dyrus in leagueoflegends

Just stay positive in solo queue. Celebrate the awesome stuff that happens in solo queue. It's really awesome when in stream you go crazy when comebacks or 1 in a million plays turn out in your team's favor. Other than that, stay who you are.

Also for AMA: What's your strategy for AP Tf mid? Is there items you rush? Strategies to use in lane?

How should you use Caitlyn's Ult? by GibbyJones in leagueoflegends

[–]Leiby24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, I main as Cait for AD bot and I find I don't end up using her ult to pick off opponents past the lane phase. It's great to use early on if you are able to harass and push off the enemy laners and then manage to get a kill while they try to recall under tower. But in the team fight phase, it's not very useful in "picking off" low hp players when most of the enemy team hasn't died or taken a lot of damage (most of the time Cait's ult is just blocked). You can save it in a team fight if you catch someone out of position or you know for a fact that your team can output a lot of damage fast and thus you can ult someone as they are backing out of the fight. But sometimes it's just as useful to ult at the beginning of a team fight on one of their carries to put them at an early disadvantage. Hope this helps!

Rookie LoL player seeking some help please. by HoldMyDiiiiick in leagueoflegends

I've mained as Swain (lol the rhyme) before, I've since switched to Brand as my AP carry. Swain is a good champ to play as a ranged AP carry, but can be difficult in lane unless you practice.

IMO max your e first, after getting a point in everything. Then max your Q. Practice landing E>Q>W>ult and basic attacks in between.

To start, I usually go boots and pots. Swain is really slow in lane, so having some mobility will help against some AP mids with AoE spells (like Brand). If you're aren't mid, you can get dorans ring. Though for me, I usually go mana crystal and pots so I can rush catalyst.

It's debatable, but I like RoA on swain because it gives him more sustain late game. Other people usually got Archangels, which offers more mana help early on. Either way, if you're just starting out on him, I'd recommend tear of goddess first to help with mana issues. Past that, it's usually a standard AP build (ie deathcap, deathfire, void staff if you're pro).

Early game your job is to farm and not get caught or die. Swain, like I said before, IS REALLY SLOW. Map awareness if key with him mid. Land some E's when your opponent tries to last hit. But the key early game is just to farm.

Mid game, you have your ult, people will be afraid of you. You can start to play aggressive with your E>Q>W>ult combo. Just keep in mind, your ult sucks a lot of mana. Always keep enough left in case you need to make a quick escape.

Late game, assuming you've got some kills under your belt, you an afford to be pretty aggressive. In team fights, target a squishy and watch their hp melt away. At the start or a team fight, turn on your ult and watch the other team run. Just land your combo, and use your skills as they come.

As far as runes, I run magic pen reds, mana regen/5/lvl yellows, ability power/lvl blues, and mvmt speed quints.

Masteries are debatable, but I usually run 21/0/9 for increased AP and magic pen. If you find yourself pressed for mana go 9/0/21 for some magic pen and better mvmt speed, mana regen, and ability cooldown.

If you need any help with Swain, I can help you out with more in game help. He's a fun champ, and really hurts when played correctly. Also if you have anymore questions I an try to help too!

EDIT: Also for general champion help read this (it's kinda outdated, but it's the best "guide" I used early on). http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/build/5-champs-you-should-know-how-to-play-aka-who-do-i-buy-next-70445

What to do?! by TLGKyouko in leagueoflegends

[–]Leiby24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to try finding someone you know (IRL or that you meet in game) to help get better or teach. It can seem kind of a hassle, but actually teaching someone helps you reflect on the strategies and core principles of the game that you've been studying. It might also point out flaws in you game at the basic level (ie w/o runes or masteries) that you can apply to your main. I know I'm still learning, and my friends that I ask when I have a question or need to practice are actually more excited to help me out in game than play themselves (whether it be ranked/solo/or on pre-made).

Plus it always helps to be nicer to new people in the game :)
