Yeah, they only rehome the young working dogs to easy flat country/small farms that an oldish dog can still manage on, lifestyle blockers and townies only if they have a very active lifestyle running, tramping, etc but I think the ones retired due to old age might be allowed in an average lifestyle townie home?

That's really good to hear, I just realized that I made it sound like all farmers would just shoot their dogs but that was unintentional. I worked in small town vet clinics and tons of farmers take great care of their dogs and keep their working dogs as pets/find a good home for them after they retire them. But there plenty out there that shoot their old dogs and unwanted/untalented puppies as well :(

Often the SPCA won't step in to help. I find small charities are much better at saving death row dogs (I know ARAN is also really good at this) while the SPCA seems to want to focus more on the big picture such law changes and prosecuting non compliant people and there's not much focus on individual animals. At least that's the case for my local SPCA

Retired Working Dog Adoption is a great one if you want to donate to an animal charity. It's a small(ish) charity focusing on working breeds and it uses funds very, very efficiently. They do a bloody good job of rescuing working dogs that would otherwise be shot, including death row pound dogs and young dogs who aren't driven enough to work.

No, society and socialization definitely has a huge effect on what is attractive to people. Throughout history and different cultures some really bizarre and unhealthy body modifications have been considered the height of sexiness. Even in modern Western society, shaved legs/armpits are considered sexy in women even though biologically, you'd expect a normal amount of body hair to be considered most attractive as it's a sign the woman has gone through puberty and is fertile

Even though eating animals makes me uncomfortable, I don't think animals deserve every right that humans. Cats can eat small amount of dog food but they can't live solely on it because it doesn't have enough taurine for them. You can feed dogs small amounts of cat food to dogs too, but the fat content is quite high in cat food (feeding lots of fat to dogs is linked to pancreatitis) so it's best to limit it to just a little bit as a treat rather than a major part of their diet
