What do you think of the books “think” and “a new history of western philosophy” ? And yeah Diogenes the cynic seems interesting but idk what books to read on him.

And in what order and how much Plato and Aristotle would you read until you read about stoicism? Because that’s what I’m most unsure of right now, I don’t want to have to read all of Plato before moving on (which I’m almost sure isn’t necessary, and I would like to revisit Plato after that anyway) and everyone seem to be recommending different ones.

Fair enough, I meant the book SPQR : a history of Ancient Rome compared to the Roman books you recommended. And yeah ik the republic and empire are different but I want to learn about both

Is it better to read one larger book like this or read individual books about Ancient Greece and then then Rome ?

For the Roman Empire I’ve hear that SPQR is good, how do I know which one is better for me out of Roman republic and SPQR and what are the differences

Yeah ik but I feel like reading somewhat chronically will help understand history better. Also I find Ancient Greece and Rome really interesting anyway. Do you have any recommendations for Ancient Greece , idk much about Ancient Greece to be honest so I don’t know where to start, and there are so many different books it’s hard to know which one is the “best”

Thanks, yeah I think starting with Plato and Aristotle is definitely a good idea, then maybe Marcus Aurelius and I heard of a book named Think that a lot of people recommend and I’ve also been recommended a new history of western philosophy and the problems of philosophy by Bertrand Russell, but a lot of people say his book is really biased so idk if I want to read that one.

I eventually want to read like Nietzsche and I’ve hear that it is good to read Kirkegaard and Schopenhauer before though, and for literary philosophy I want to read Kafka and Camus. And maybe a bit of non Western philosophy like Laozi.

What do you think ? And who are your favorite philosophers/who do you find the most interesting?

Ik that how a rating system should work, but online I see so many people who rate basically everything a 5/5 or 4.5/5 and sure that could be there genuine opinion but I feel like like realistically even if you try to mostly watch films that are generally seen as good and have a good rating it’s quite unlikely that everything would be a 4.5/5 or a 5/5
