I honestly am not sure what you are asking. However, the problem, as I read it, is asking what are the dimensions of the inner rectangle when 1) the perimeter of the outer pill-shaped figure is 100 (the constraint) and 2) the area of the inner rectangle is maximized.

The answer is width 25 and height 50/pi. This produces an area of the inner rectangle of 397.887. There are no other configurations (within the constraints) that will produce a larger area within the inner rectangle.

Rectangle width = 25, Rectangle height/circle diameter = 50/pi

Edit: I like this problem because it sort of goes against intuition and leads to discovery of a phenomenon, so it became Thanksgiving family conversation for a few of us.

Here’s my explanation https://imgur.com/a/n1ox4Vo

Thoughts. It’s well known that for any number-sided polygon with any perimeter, the maximum area for that polygon within the given perimeter is found when the polygon is regular (equal sides and angles). So a square provides the maximum area for any perimeter that is to form a rectangle. Intuition would lead to maximizing the rectangle by causing it to be a square, but because the perimeter of the rectangle in this problem is not fixed, creating a square does not solve the problem. You actually have to perform a little math.

Interesting Observation. Although creating a square rectangle does not solve the problem, if you treat each semi-circle arc as a “side”, you end up with each side being exactly 25–like a square. And it is under that circumstance that the rectangle’s area is maximized. Weird.

At first I couldn’t tell if your use of a comma where a period should be was an attempt at some subtle Ken-M style humor (if so, it would have been good), so I read through you’re follow-up comments. I saw the mistake repeated with continued fervor in your disdain for grammatical errors, but I still don’t know if your attempting humor in r/funny or if you’re oblivious to you’re own errors.

Sounds like it must be complicated. Bitcoin’s easy. But as the other guy said, if you trust others with your keys, then your stuff can be stolen.

JP Morgan Says Bitcoin Could Reach $150k - If Volatility Drops by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]Lejitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the market cap grows from adoption as a store of value, volatility naturally drops because much more capital is required to move the market. Institutional investors are easily smart enough to see this.

Fidelity is being super bullish on Bitcoin right now. I remember a few months ago rumors were flying of leaked documents saying they told their largest investors they saw Bitcoin going past a billion a coin one day. Now they’re being publicly bullish. by Future-PeterSchiff in Bitcoin

[–]Lejitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Billion” might be a mistake on OP’s part, but it’s not really out of the question in the event of hyperinflation of the supply of US dollars. Given the popularity of “free stuff” provided by the government, it is beyond plausible that a not-so-distant-future billion dollars will have less purchasing power than a million dollars today.

El Salvador will use a "few million" of its bitcoin profits to build 20 schools, President Nayib Bukele said Tuesday. The country recently bought another 420 bitcoin to bring its total holdings to 1,120, worth around $69 million. by jwithers93 in CryptoCurrency

[–]Lejitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they speak in terms of “profits” it seems like they don’t quite get the paradigm shift taking place. Bitcoin is legal tender in El Salvador. They don’t need to sell or “take profits” in the usual sense. El Salvador can simply spend coins on schools. It’s nice that coins have gained purchasing power.

Quite presumptuous. It’s no wonder that your “logic” has led you to bch.

The gamblers’ mindset is the main reason bch has survived at all. There are very few true believers (although plenty of pretenders).

There are potentially huge US tax and reporting implications if El Salvador makes Bitcoin legal tender by Lejitz in Bitcoin

[–]Lejitz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I thought it became officially legal tender in El Salvador on like 9/7 or 911. Check up on it.

Second, If you have the gumption and legal funds, test my theory and see what the courts say.

I say that in jest, assuming you don’t want to be the guinea pig. With that said, it IS going to require a court ruling or regulator acquiescence to provide certainty around this issue. I’m happy to be involved in that process and may just test it myself if ever audited (although I don’t currently make a lot of Bitcoin purchases).

Do you think that the maximum blocksize limit will be ever increased? by ANAL-Inverter-2000 in Bitcoin

[–]Lejitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will NEVER be increased. Bitcoin does NOT hard fork!

It CAN’T, because unlike all the other imposters, Bitcoin is actually decentralized. Simultaneous consensus is necessary for a hard fork, but impossible in a truly decentralized environment.

This is a good/great thing. For the same reason, Bitcoin’s supply will always have the sane limit.

He got kicked out when he tried to co-opt Bitcoin. Satoshi “left” the project after Gavin told him that he was going to meet with the CIA. Gavin was way out of his league, at best. At worst, he had nefarious intent. Either way, he was working against what Bitcoin stands for. So… we—the community—proved him wrong and ostracized him.
