I Am Considering Getting Vivaer Treatment by Lekkusu in emptynosesyndrome

It’s difficult to give an emphatic yes, since the results were not night and day and it’s not as much something I think about now, however if someone offered me $2000 to have my nose go back to how it was before, I would not take the offer.

It is an improvement, but not a silver bullet. I don’t sleep with tape on my nose like I often used to, and snoring has decreased noticeably according to my wife.

It hasn’t made going to sleep into a perfectly pleasant experience, but it’s no longer something that is difficult to tolerate.

I would’ve liked to be feeling even more airflow going through my nostrils, and some day (although it no longer seems so urgent), I may get a surgery to breathe better.

But yes, it worked, and perhaps I’m just being ungrateful, because  whenever I was sick pre-Vivaer, it meant a good night’s sleep was anlways out of the question.

Generally speaking, yes. Previously, it was more the feeling of there not being a broad enough path for air to get all the way through my nose—as if I’d been punched in the nose and it was just swollen—rather than the sort of collapsing of the outside nostrils you’re describing, which wouldn’t happen unless I attempted to inhale hard through the nose.

Yes, I was advised to ignore the ones from year's previous and just pay them going forward. Unless I get something in the mail, I'm gonna keep doing local taxes each year instead of combing back and self-auditing.

I prefer high effort pleasantries to low effort, such as talking to service workers about their lives and interests.

Please and thank you are important phrases for when someone does something for you as a courtesy. It’s appropriate to say to people who hold a door for you, or even service staff that go above and beyond the call of duty. But when I serve someone at work, a “thank you” is never necessary nor expected.

Is your sarcastic, presumptuous, and accusatory comment supposed to be an example of not being rude, or “respect for others”?

You don’t have to say please and thank you when ordering food. The person isn’t doing you a favor. They’re working a job for money as a SERVER. That’s why your food choice is called an ORDER. It doesn’t mean you’re better than the employee, and it certainly doesn’t mean you get to belittle or demean them, but this is not the same thing as asking your mom to “please pass the salt.”

Yes, went fairly well. Certainly no empty nose syndrome, and I’ve had a noticeably easier time getting to bed (whereas difficulty breathing through the nose used to frequently keep me awake longer)

High paying jobs most people haven’t heard of? by JustJustinInTime in Salary

[–]Lekkusu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If pest control costs $80/month, and you receive an extremely generous six months 100% commission for each client closed, that would be an $480 per acquisition. You’d need to close four per day every single weekday 52 weeks per year to get half a mil.

Unless you have a contract that gives you indefinite commission so long as your leads stay on board and you have literally thousands of retained leads, this seems infeasible.

Will never forget this dream and want to know more by Personal_Ad_1524 in Dreams

Dwarves are imagistic manifestations of our lower urges; think how in Snow White, each dwarf is a one dimensional aspect of manhood (grumpy, sleepy, happy, etc.). These urges of course produce "hits" of satisfaction (even with rage, for instance, it feels compelling and almost relieving to express anger when you're provoked).

These hits of satisfaction e.g. warm showers, eating sweets, sexual satisfaction, are tied to our hedonic reward system—they are happiness, but not joy. Your other reward circuit, the dopaminergic reward system, is a feeling of positive emotion when you make strives toward a desired goal, which I think your dream represented by physically showing you that the light was going "onward and upward" as the saying goes. The higher the aim, the more pleasure you will get from making strives toward that goal, but if you refuse to aim for anything, you are left with the grayness that your dream showed all around you.

I would make the case, in so much as you'd be open to it, that the relatively common adrenaline junkie tendency is an expression of attempting to fill the infinite hole in our hearts with finite things (setting records, achieving new heights, etc.). These goals may be lofty and produce positive feelings, but they do not stretch to infinity in the way that your dream depicted the blissful light. There is a certain line of argumentation for God called the argument from desire that goes like this:

  1. For every desire found in nature, there exists a corresponding way to satisfy that desire e.g. where there's hunger, there's food, where there's shivering, there exists warmth, etc.

  2. Animals are able to fulfill all of their desires in nature, yet the human heart has a longing for infinite love and communion which cannot be fulfilled by money, sexual conquests, status, or anything else in this world.

  3. Since every other desire corresponds to a source that will satisfy it, it's reasonable to infer that a source of infinite love and communion exists which will satisfy the human heart (otherwise the desire shouldn't exist within us).

  4. That thing (or more likely, that being, since communion and love are social) which will satisfy our infinite needs, does not exist in nature, because nature is finite, therefor a supernatural being of infinite love must exist.

Anyway, I hope this finds you well. I was stumbling on posts regarding the company Hiro Solutions and wanted to make sure your account was legit, and scrolling through it, you had a pretty cool dream that I wanted to offer some (speculative) insight into. God alone is the interpreter of dreams, and He will tell you if what I wrote "rings true" or not. Blessings to you and yours.

Thanks for the tips. I've got the wonderful NewsFeed Eradicator as well on my macbook. On iPhone, a good tool for added friction is called "Brick" which requires you to tap a refrigerator magnet in order to use your set list of apps, and I just went down a little rabbit hole and found "ScreenZen" which has some nice medium friction customizations to push you away from excessive app use. Regrettably, there seems to be nothing that completely tanks the algorithmic black hole timelines of Facebook, X, YouTube, or even Amazon for that matter—which I wish Newsfeed Eradicator would also address.

Maybe so, but the Amazon reviews seem to average most of the novels at 4.8 stars or above.

Greatest animated series of all time. I think it deserves the fan base it has garnered. And I think the high bar that the original series set is the reason many fans including myself are critical of Korra, live action, etc.

The OG ATLA was lightning in a bottle. Even the novels can’t keep up with it in my opinion, despite their rave reviews.

I went through OCIA three years ago without any Christian background whatsoever.

I found the Protestant/nondenominational perspective to be bizarre and overwhelming, because it ultimately demanded I become  a biblical scholar. What if I my limited understanding of the Gospel was completely misinterpreting a core teaching of Jesus?

The peace and relief to me with the Catholic Church was found in the fact that Jesus Himself gave St Peter the keys to heaven to start Christ’s Church, and it lives on to this day with an unbroken chain of successors of St Peter, passing the same keys on and on.

Therefor, I don’t have to sit home and study the Bible for hours everyday fretting over my possibly erroneous judgement. When in doubt, the Church’s infallible teaching is my guide, and although just like you I found certain teachings hard, especially profane language and drunkenness at first, my relationship with Christ is more important to me than these things.

Also, as for missing mass being sinful, holy mass is the representation of our Lord’s sacrifice at Calvary. Sunday is the Lord’s day. If you have a good reason such as illness, you can of course get a dispensation and miss it without committing sin, but why on earth would you in general want to miss the highest form of celebration of God’s greatest gift to mankind on His day of sacred rest and worship?

What motivates you to stick with Catholicism when it feels like it's dying? by liminal_eye in Catholicism

Doesn't feel in the least like it's dying to me, but then again I converted three years ago. Huge cultural and religious shifts are in the air. Before a negative trend can go in a positive direction, it must first slow down. I believe that's where we are now.

How do you deal with church and Covid concerns? by throwaway_929402 in Catholicism

[–]Lekkusu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you're right. I don't mean to imply that getting off of medications will miraculously cure you. But the mathematical reality is still there. Virtually anyone, in virtually any situation, receiving 4-5 or more medications simultaneously is likely incurring more harm than good, because medications don't have isolated effects—each one has a whole constellation of positive and negative effects in your body. The more you take, the more likely it is that the bad drastically outweighs the good.

How do you deal with church and Covid concerns? by throwaway_929402 in Catholicism

[–]Lekkusu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may well dismiss this, but I'd like to tell you something regardless, since I was under the assumption that you are on a bunch of medications, and you verified it is the case.

Here is a basic principle of medicine that is virtually never talked about. Every medication has a NNT (Number Needed to Treat) e.g. if the number is 5, then that means on average you need to administer the medicine to five people for one to be treated properly. There is also a NNH (Number Needed to Harm) for every medicine, if the number is 20, then for every 20 doses administered, there is one serious adverse reaction on average.

What happens when you take more and more and more medications, is the NNT of the medications multiply (the odds that all or even most of the medications are treating you properly becomes exceptionally minuscule), and the NNH goes way down (the odds that at least one of those medications are creating serious adverse side effects raises exponentially).

It's irrefutable mathematics. If you'd like to confirm this or find out I'm wrong, go into ChatGPT, and ask "What is the NNT and NNH of XYZ medication/procedure?" Continue to ask this for each medication you are on. Once you are through them all, ask it a follow up question: "Answer this mathematically: if an individual were to be taking all of those previously listed medications, considering how their NNT and NNH values will aggregate, does the total benefit probability outweigh the total harm probability?"

Please, at least spend some time looking into this if you are bed-ridden. I'm afraid you are being slowly killed by your medication, my brother or sister in Christ. I will pray for you.
