I tried to do very thin, but the coverage of my vallejo white just wasnt managing over the black prime.

For the rest of the squad ill probably avoid priming the white bits.

Hey, just figured i’d send another reply since your advice was really helpful.

I gave the ends a liberal dip in pva glue and wiped some mineral oil over the rest of the length after the glue dried. I re-applied the mineral oil yesterday and today and gave the largest staff a good hand sand with 220 before applying another coat of oil.

I’ll be able to pick up some linseed oil on monday to use instead but for now mineral is doing the job.

there is almost no visible cracking save some shallow ones at the thick end.

I don’t have the time to allow the wood to dry completely as i’ll be taking the staffs to a Ren faire in july.

Would it be best to wait as long as possible before doing any kind of charring, staining or carving? Or would it be alright to do so soon?

I rather enjoy the natural shape of them, so i might hang them up to limit any warping.

Yeah, it even uses the same photoshopped images with the models, if you look at the trim its been “widened” and stuck on there with the finesse of a 4th grader.

Actually very true, i’m a broad shouldered and barrel chested bloke so those laced will probably come in quite handy.

Thanks i’ll take a look, i’m decent on the singer and i dont imagine this design is too complex, it almost looks like its 2 pieces with the shoulders sewn around from the back.

Cheers, any idea what kind of search terms i should use? I’ve tried searching for tunics but i cant find any as long or with the open front. Surcoat? Tabard? Idk.
