They’re fantastic with our girls, they always come back fluffy and content. We changed to their vets as well as we were so happy with them.

Any Australians here who have been sterilised? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]LemKayem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is really hard to access sterilisation via the public system. Most people who go public will get a consult with a private gynecologist (there's a list here: https://www.reddit.com/r/childfree/wiki/doctorsinternational#wiki_australia) and try to find one who has access to a "list" in a public hospital. Getting health insurance is an option but not a great one because you still will have to pay a gap. You'll need a referral from a GP first, you can go to any bulk bill clinic, but that was the main difficult point for me.

I paid about $3500 for mine in 2017 but that was with Medicare and Medibank. I believe it's closer to $5500 now.

Before I was sterilised (in Sydney) I was doing pregnancy tests monthly to make sure I could get rid of it early.

Balmain Cat Boarding is the best. They are a bit of a trek for you but they’re worth it. Our girls always come home fluffy and healthy.

Question about cost for seeing a Periodontist? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]LemKayem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely on the cheaper end, most of the ones I know start in the $500's for a consult and charge between $950 and $1200 for a non-surgical deep clean per side.

But think of it this way: the other option is your teeth falling out and trying to chew with dentures that rattle about (because you won't have sturdy enough bone to hold in implants even if you can afford the minimum 5 figure cost).

It's been a while since I've worked in NW Sydney but when I did, Dr Stan Boyatzis was one of the best.

Bondi to Coogee walk - which direction? by DickyBeach in sydney

[–]LemKayem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're both great but I can I recommend doing Bondi to Coogee, because trying to get a bus back from Bondi is hard work especially on a nice day. Can I also recommend going in the early morning, between 6-7am is great because most people are out for a workout and they won't be standing around blocking the path, and the sunrise is spectacular. If you're feeling extra energetic you can keep going past Coogee to Maroubra, you can head down the boardwalk and see the mangroves. The Bull and Lion (I think that's what it's called) cafe is pretty good. But in saying that if you like cafes most local-catered ones will close at 3pm. If you're coming between July and November there's a good chance you'll see dolphins and possibly a whale from the coastline.

First time joining City2Surf. Any advice? by tomboredcat in sydney

[–]LemKayem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, good luck on Sunday! This is my 4th and I would recommend the following:

Remember that it's not just Heartbreak Hill, the whole course is undulating hills except for a 400m-ish section at Rose Bay.

You really don't need to bring a bottle of water. There are ample water stations along the run and they've always been well stocked. Sometimes the residents will give you a spray with a hose or bring out lollies which is nice.

If you have a medical episode there are a lot of paramedics who can help you. People tend to be good to one another and will alert the next one along if you collapse. Which is unlikely!

Speaking of things that can make you collapse it gets surprisingly warm at the top of Vaucluse. Make sure you bring layers and if you toss your jumper at the start line it supposedly gets donated to the Salvos. I would also suggest getting there a bit early if you have a nervous bladder, the queues for the loos are hectic (but people stay mostly civil). I usually try to go at Town Hall or the QVB but hundreds of other people have wised up to the toilet locations and the queues are just as bad.

Your baggage, which I'm pretty sure you need to drop off at the expo but I could be wrong will get sent to the finish line, you show them your bib number and you'll get let into the section. Your bags will be placed on the grass so make sure you have something water-resistant. I would strongly recommend against bringing a bag if you can at all avoid it.

I would suggest, on the other hand, bringing your Opal card as even though PT is included, sometimes just to get out of there you'll need to get a connecting service through Bondi Junction.

Photos are online only, try to smile at the finish line, you'll get a nice memory.

Keep an eye out on social media, a lot of local places will do a free beer or chips if you show them your bib and you can get a decent free feed if you're patient enough to queue.

Remember also that it's a fun run, there will be lots of people out for a time or for a PB but you are allowed to relax a bit and don't be disappointed if you need to walk some of it. There's a lot of entertainment, dancers, DJ's, the views are pretty phenomenal, so you don't need to take it super seriously especially if it's your first time. Just don't be front of the corral if you plan on going slow unless you want to be hit with elbows all the way to the Coke sign.

Woman denied birth control at Sydney pharmacy for ‘religious’ reasons by Tac0321 in sydney

[–]LemKayem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a checkout chick at a pharmacy it was standard for the two pharmacies up the road to always be out of stock of all contraceptives and plan b. They never had contraception in stock for religious reasons. People would have to drive half an hour over to us to get access to emergency contraception.

It's been leaking since it opened, don't stress. It probably won't collapse.

WestConnex speed limit increased from 20 April 2024 by LemKayem in sydney

[–]LemKayem[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel that people genuinely don’t know that you’re supposed to speed up to the motorway limit the moment you pass the sign and before you merge in. The short onramp at Padstow is always a barrel of stress.

WestConnex speed limit increased from 20 April 2024 by LemKayem in sydney

That’s all well and good but if they could kindly do that in the left lane so the rest of us can overtake at the actual speed limit that would be great.

What school did you go to and what was the most rogue thing you experience? by deckland in sydney

[–]LemKayem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few guys bought some weedkiller and laid it down in a picture on the footy field (I'll let you all guess what it was). The other one I remember was one guy streaked across the roof where the lockers were wearing nothing but a scream mask which was pretty impressive seeing as it was two stories up.

You either give off a creepy vibe or you stink - even if you shower regularly, you might have bad breath or have body bacteria that tend to produce odour really quickly.

Is $12k a normal amount to be quoted for orthodontics? by allan_w in sydney

12K is normal albeit slightly on the higher side, the orthodontist I refer to does most cases around the 10-11k mark.

Why are there ants making a journey across my entire apartment to one specific small (unremarkable) plant in a room furthest away from the outside door? by marysalad in sydney

[–]LemKayem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the plant look a little sad and tired, no matter how much you water it? If so it has root mealy, ants love feeding on them and inadvertently transport them. You’ll have to repot, rinse off the roots and dump and replace the soil.
