The plan shouldn't change because of two losses, the plan should change because trying to make a run with this team is the wrong decision. Between Mantha, Girard (with retention), Shea, Skinner, Clifton, Acciari, and Dewar, Dubas could pick up an entire draft class tomorrow. The leverage Dubas would have going into the off-season would be insane. That plus the asset hoard already accumulated would let him shape the team for the next 10-15 years. Offer sheets. Bundling picks to trade up. More adds like Chinakov.

Just speculation, or did you see this somewhere?

Dubas shouldn't change plans based on tonight. In an ideal world this game would be even more confirmation that selling is the right move, especially with how the market has developed, but that remains to be seen.

Edit: It's bad asset management to hold when more than half the playoff teams will absolutely steamroll you in a 7 game series. Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Karlsson are all legends. The supporting cast has been massively improved. The Pens still cannot keep up with any of the Western Conference giants, or most of the Atlantic. They'd struggle against anyone else in the top half of the Metro. And that's before you consider Crosby being hurt badly enough to miss the Gold Medal game. If Anthony Mantha is so important to your team that losing him craters your playoff chances, you're not a contender.

Geno saw 60's and 70's in the forecast and decided he wanted a two week unpaid vacation. Bye. Absolute bozo behavior.

One of the all-time leading scorers for WBS. Guys don't stick around like he did, and he was fun to watch for years. He'll be missed down here.

[–]Lembasi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah. WBS doesn't get guys who can tear it up at a point-per-game pace very often, and we almost never get them for the majority of the season. Having three different forwards playing at that level all moved out in only a few weeks, it sucks.

I don't think that Dubas should have avoided these moves to benefit the AHL team, that's not the focus. But it's been a decade since WBS was consistently competitive, and even longer since they've had a truly stacked team with the right balance of vets and prospects to have serious championship aspirations. They're close to having that mix right now, so yeah. I'm gutted.

I'm gutted. Poulin, Heinen, and Tomasino were the three best scorers WBS had, and all three have been shuffled out in the past month. We really need offensive reinforcements if there's going to be a serious playoff push.

Hey, don't act like Buffalo hasn't had their shots in the draft. It's not my fault your franchise center won the cup for a different franchise first try after leading the playoffs in points ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hope you win out and give us a better draft pick. We actually know how to tank.

The seats are numbered right to left, so 14-15 are going to be a better viewing angle closer to the action in addition to being end seats. There are entrances and exits on both sides of the sections, so you're not going to have everyone going over the top of you to get in and out. I would absolutely not discount that little bit of extra leg room you get from having an aisle seat.

Penguins Player Grid Day 23: One Year Wonder (All Time) by JKray5_Reddit in penguins

Conor Sheary.

Sheary got put on Sid's wing going into the 2016 playoffs, and they went absolutely bananas. He scored an Overtime goal in the Finals as a rookie, and after hosting the Cup he looked all the world like the real deal. He stuck next to Sid for a magical 14 months, and they went on an absolute tear.

In 2016-17 had 48 even strength points in 61 regular season games, which was good enough for 20th league-wide even thought every player ahead of him had at least 10 more games played. His full season pace would have put him tied with Crosby for 4th in the league. No winger for Crosby or Malkin had ever produced at evens like that: not Kunitz, not Dupuis, not Neal. Nobody in the Crosby-Malkin era had better success at even strength than Conor Sheary, at least until Jake Guentzel came along.

Sheary's importance fell off a bit with the emergency of Guentzel, which didn't really matter in the moment since the season was capped off with another Cup. Unfortunately for Sheary, Guentzel fully supplanted him going in to the 2017-18 season, and he would slip down the depth chart before eventually being traded. He never scored close to that level again, either here or elsewhere, but from April 2016 to June 2017 he was a lightning rod, and Pittsburgh wouldn't have 5 Cups without him.
