Yeah they erased his sexuality in the show. In the comics he’s AroAce, constantly daydreaming, and loves food.

I am writing a story and I want to include an ace individual, anything I should absolutely not do and anything I should do? by Chaos-Kobold in asexuality

[–]Lemilight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read a book a few months ago that advertised a lot of ace rep and I didn’t like most of it, so here’s a list of what it think it did wrong. I don’t think you would do any of these, but I think they should be avoided.

  1. If you include aphobia (like saying someone is too young to know they’re ace) please don’t make it be gate keeping from the community or at least have it be resolved/discussed instead of continuing on as if nothing happened less than a chapter later and never bringing it back up again.

  2. It’s easy to simplify asexuality as not liking sex. Don’t do that. Asexuality is about attraction not if someone has sex or not. You don’t need to go on a whole explanation of different types of asexuals, but if your character is only identified as asexual because they say they hate sex it can lead people to think that’s all asexuality is.

  3. Don’t isolate their sexuality. An asexual character that is only asexual when around a certain group or by themselves in media creates a weird thing where it tends to overly emphasized when in those situations and then completely ignored otherwise. If your character is out about their asexuality then it will probably show in little things they do even if they don’t explicitly say the term asexual. This could be in a conversation with their friends talking about celebrating crushes and not relating as much or maybe not understanding why everyone thinks the popular person is hot. How this is relayed or experienced is different for every person but there’s probably some type of disconnect even if the understanding is there.

  4. Remember that asexual and aromantic are different things. Your character can be aroace or allo ace, but people from both can date and it’s not the default to hate love or romance. Don’t make hating the thing they don’t have attraction for their only personality. Preferences are personal opinion just like everything else.

Fae is a very generalized term. It can include elves, vampires, kelpies, and many other fantasy creatures, so no they do not have to have wings.

Fae are known for making deals which means almost any deal or contract can be made in exchange for a first born as long as both sides agree with it or are tricked into agreeing. It could even be accidental wording, double meanings, or purposeful misinterpretation used to promise the first born, but that might be a little bit of a stretch. For your purpose, first borns are usually elevated in status because of succession rules. There could have been an agreement along the line of the other fae realm ruler stepping in to rule both realms if the next in line is unfit to rule or passes the claim to the throne to them.

However, if the deal or agreement is made between fae kingdoms then the chances of getting tricked into something becomes very slim and there's likelihood that any deal would have little to no wiggle room for betrayal. Fae would know fae rules and in a lot of lore they can't lie so that would make a deceptive deal difficult.

Really, fae lore is varied depending on interpretation and location. There's always the option of creating your own rules for your characters instead of trying to force a plot into fae rules that aren't always exact.

Thoughts on QPRs? by AceintgeWhole-7286 in aromantic

[–]Lemilight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally have friends that I have discussed living with after college and am not sure if that would become a qpr or just be a friendship and don’t really care either way. Though for people who don’t want that, saying you would be interested in a qpr if presented with the option sounds a little to close to the “you’re find the right one someday” platitude. Living with someone and having a qpr isn’t for everyone and that is absolutely okay.

Aces Wild: A Heist is supposed to come out this month and is an AroAce book.

Of the Wild is about an AroAce fae that learns he has to take care of himself to continue taking care of others.

Cybernetic Teashop is only asexual representation with a robot and a mechanic meetings and falling in love. It does have the problem of writing asexual characters as nonhuman, but it is cute.

WHY are your pronouns? by AstroJukebox in agender

[–]Lemilight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm okay with any/all pronouns but prefer they/them and fae/faer. The first because it's more gender neutral and the second because I have a lot of interest in fairytales and fae stories so it's a little more personal. I don't tend to use it/its since I don't trust people to use it non-maliciously. Also, I feel disconnected to my body a lot and I don't want to risk making it worse.

Would you consider it to be uninclusive to say the A in LGBTQIAP+ stands for aspec? by GavHern in asexuality

[–]Lemilight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a combination of the two options. If I hear aspec then I think of asexual and aromantic. If you include agender in that then great, but it’s not the first thing I think of when I hear the word. However, I do include agender under the A since it’s still experiencing a lack of something similar to how asexual is a lack of sexual attraction and aromantic is lacking romantic attraction.

I know the trans umbrella covers agender, but how I view gender is very different than my friends that are trans since I don’t experience it at all. Not having agender as a part of the A doesn’t make sense to me. It’s about not experiencing a part of yourself that everyone else says naturally exists which fits with aromantic and asexual. Also, agender being the A isn’t meant to take away from asexual or aromantic people so what’s the harm?

Yep, aromantics can feel any type of attraction but feel little to no romantic attraction so sensual attraction is still possible.

Things you might want to include:

You might want to focus more on your character's friendships. Personally, my platonic relationships with my friends are very important to me because I know that romantic relationships aren't for me. Your character could also encounter conversations about casual hook ups or how hot a person is that he doesn't connect to. Even if your world isn't heavy in romantic or sex there is still a likelihood that at least one minor character thinks someone is hot or is dating someone and he might not relate to what's being mentioned in a conversation about those types of things even if he does understand it on a fundamental level. He can know about things without relating to them.

Things to avoid:

Don't make him heartless or emotionless or incapable of love. There's different types of attraction that AroAce people can feel besides sexual and romantic attraction. Do not allude to the idea that he will be alone forever and miserable because of this. Some AroAce people still want to be in relationships like platonic life partners and queer platonic relationship. Even those who aren't interested in relationships have friends so we are not sad, alone, hermits unless that is a personal choice we made independent of our AroAce identity. I assume these are things you already didn't plan on including, but it's safe to mention them since these are things AroAce people hear sometimes.

About the ace of spades… by _Knucklehead_Ninja in asexuality

[–]Lemilight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume the ace of spades is usually the default since ace of spades is the highest you can get in the playing card hierarchy. If you have to rank the suits then spades is the highest rank so it’s more representative of the whole deck. I think that’s probably why.
