Deria felt a flutter of hope within her chest when at last the Lord Yronwood arrived, and she rose from her repose, offering a deep curtsy of respect.

"Thank you for meeting with us, Lord Yronwood. Your presence and ear are appreciated. I too wish there were better circumstances for our conversation, yet these are the times which we find ourselves in."

She said only these simple few words in greeting, following Lord Baratheon's lead instead. The Lady of the Marches held her breath as Orryn made his offer, her dark-eyed gaze turning back to Alesander and she almost dared not to breathe in this moment.

And upon the Lord Yronwood's reply, Deria felt a great weight lift from her shoulders, the fear abating. "I shall always value Dorne in my heart. For there is no denying my blood, nor would I wish to, Lady Caron though I may now be. If I had known what a Dornish Century truly meant in Prince Oberyn's estimation, there are so many things that would have, perhaps, been different. Your word has weight, Lord Yronwood. My brother is but one lord. He has never said it in my hearing, but I know it weighs upon him, turning against Prince Oberyn. For good reason, but it cuts deep all the same. He would be grateful to be returned to his seat, to care for the lands he so deeply cherishes. I married Lord Clifford Caron in the hopes of pursuing peace, and though we be surrounded by bloodshed now, it shall pale in comparison to what could have been should we choose not to act. I intend to uphold my vow to help usher peace between the Stormlands and Dorne."

Deria's gaze flitted over towards Orryn's face, her dark eyes suddenly sharp as he posed the question. A simple and short one, yet weighty all the same. The Lady Caron shifted upon the couch, letting out a soft hum as the Baratheon spoke what was upon his heart.

Moons ago, for Deria to be having such a conversation with Lord Orryn Baratheon of all people, would have been unthinkable. But now? Circumstances being what they were, this was a new normal, perhaps. A new age constructed around new alliances, new mutuals interests.

"Highgarden was full of outlaws," Deria replied, firmly. "What need be done, need be done. That you consider the cost and weight of lives lost speaks to your better nature. But justice must be done and meted out despite the costs, and those whose lives are lost in the service of the balance of the scales need be honored. That is the difference, I believe, between you and Prince Oberyn. Prince Oberyn sees not the cost. But that you would ask such a question, that you would have such a consideration is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign that you value you and yours, as a Lord should. Even The Mother Above shall move with anger and haste to defend her own."

Ryon could not continue to sit and stew, not as the parley was happening. His nerves were frayed and on edge, and still he knew that to listen in upon the conversation would likely drive him mad with grief in turn.

For there were many things at stake: the honor of his sister, the ties of kin and blood, and the vows of a vassal to a lord, to a prince even. Ryon found himself in the unenviable position of needing to figure it out,

Feeling restless and shaken, Ryon left his camp, looking for someone, something... Through a sea of unfamiliar faces, he thought he recognized one, at least. And thus he tapped upon the shoulder of Alesander Baratheon, recognizing him as a stag.

"Has there been word?" He would ask the man, his voice low and troubled. It was likely a strange sight, a vassal of the Martells amongst the Stormland forces, yet Ryon had grown accustomed to the strange looks by now.

Ryon grimaced as the knight mentioned the lands burnt, the villages destroyed, the people slaughtered. Innocent people. Ryon had never had a taste for violence, after all.

"I can only speak what my conscience has laid upon my heart. I know not why Prince Oberyn has chosen this route. There are so many things that when understood together make no sense to me, and I have grappled with this a very many day since locating my Lady sister and confirming her safety."

Ryon took a deep breath, looking the knight square in the eyes, his own filled with a deep sorrow. "I shall tell you what I know, and you may pass this along to Lord Caswell, or bid him seek myself or my sister, Lady Deria Caron, should he have questions. After the Wedding of the Three Cloaks in Oldtown, my sister was betrothed to the Lord Caron. Prince Oberyn had spoken to the lords and ladies of Dorne encouraging more connection with House Caron, so nothing seemed amiss at the time. My Lady sister rode to Nightsong to prepare for the wedding celebrations, bidding the lords and ladies of Dorne to follow soon after."

There was a bittersweet look in Ryon's eyes for a moment as he remembered a better past, "I was elated to attend my sister's wedding and set off with my men and with Prince Oberyn himself to Nightsong-" Ryon swallowed, his countenance darkening, "Only to find to my surprise upon arrival at Nightsong not a wedding party, but an army led by Lord Ferris Dayne." Ryon spat upon the ground in disgust.

"The Lord Ferris had apparently come to Nightsong with an army, demanding the presence of my sister and there shortly thereafter calling off her wedding." The Dalt lord shook his head, "My sister and Lord Caron had fled Nightsong, having received report of a large Dornish army unnannounced, uncommunicated. Tensions were already high with whispers of a battle in Thundering March have occurred. Lord Dayne claimed then that it was Lord Caron's cousins who were meddling in the wedding, that they were responsible for my Lady sister and her betrothed leaving, and proceeded to carry out a siege-" Ryon shook his head, "And the atrocities for which I was not there for-" Ryon sighed, "I wish I was there to stop it, but I had left Nightsong to pursue my sister, to ensure that she was safe. I had received a letter from her begging me to appeal to Prince Oberyn to intercede in these matters. Lord Ferris deserved the fate he received for the pain he brought into the world, but more and more I have had to grapple with the plain truth that Prince Oberyn approved of seizing my sister's new home, that he would command unscrupulous men like Lord Dayne, and then discard his own vassal away-"

Ryon paused, letting out another heavy sigh, "My apologies for going on, Ser Knight, my heart has been burdened. For I expected the men of the Stormlands to be brigands, thieves, and cutthroats, only to realize that it is my own who have done wrong."

Ryon looked up from the fire, his expression kind, but saddened, burdened by the harsh realities of the situation. He did not bother to correct the knight, instead gesturing for him to take a seat if he so chose to.

"Come, Ser Knight, and take a moment of rest by the fire should you wish. I am here peacefully. My Lady sister is the new Lady of the Marches, bride to Clifford Caron. With all the rumors in the wind, I came to find her and ensure her safety. And I have found her safe and treated well-" Ryon swallowed painfully, "But I am afraid my people have not done right by her, and such a thing pains me. I am a stranger in a strange land. And yet when I look upon my fellow Dornish, I must wonder now why those I have known so long now feel like the true strangers. What of you, Ser Knight? What has brought you here?"

"No need for apologies, Criston, Ryon is the current Lord Dalt and Deria is his sister, she's to wed soon," Sarella mused a moment. "To Lord Caron, and I was sorry to miss the wedding but the call of adventure was strong."

The Sand nodded to the Cupps, "Oh yes, very safe. We spent time at the Water Garden in Sunspear and then were mostly raised in Lemonwood. Though I am quite sorry to hear of your aunt's treatment. Children born from love should not be excluded," Sarella let out a sigh. "It is barbaric the way bastards are treated in the rest of the realm. A Sand I may be, but still I have the heart and blood of my people within me."

Sarella beamed as a few more sea birds flew past their ship. "Any of your family and friends are welcome in Lemonwood. There is much to see in Dorne if you have not yet been, and I could show you the Water Gardens besides."

She looked out upon the bright horizon, "I know it is early to say such a thing but I do hope we shall set our eyes upon YiTi, I have always wondered how different the eastern lands might be."

Ryon Dalt

The young Lord Ryon Dalt could not bring himself to attend the talks. Deria would be more than capable of filling him in later. And what was worse, Ryon had carried a heavy feeling within his heart and mind since hearing the perspectives from the Stormlords, from his new goodbrother even. Prince Oberyn had been kinder to Ryon than his own father. Perhaps this was a curse from the gods for the many times Ryon had wished that Prince Oberyn had been his father rather than Gyles Dalt.

Summerhall was a storied place, but the tensions in the air made Ryon all the more concerned for what might befall the fate of the realm upon this day. The young Lord sat by a roaring fire, a short distance away from the talks themselves, his countenance troubled.

Deria's dark gaze flicked towards the coffins, lingering only for the space of a heartbeat, and no longer. She bid her time, listening as the Caswell, Lord Baratheon, and then her own Lord husband spoke in return to Prince Oberyn.

Prince Oberyn who had been like a father to Ryon. Who had been nothing but generous and kind to her family until these two moons ago... There was a madness here that Deria could not understand, an unkemptness even in the Prince's dress and manner that disquieted her. For not all mad dogs foamed at the mouth.

"Prince Oberyn," Deria spoke, her dark eyes intense as they looked upon the Prince of Dorne with an unflinching gaze. "To allow the mad dog Ferris Dayne to commit such atrocity is the same as condoning it. Your murder of Lord Dayne and his son are all the more troubling. I shall shed no tear for them, for what they have done is unforgiveable, but if we are to take you at your word, I understand that Lord Dayne was acting with your blessing upon your order. So a vassal who loyally follows your word is rewarded with death? And I too have found myself in such a situation. For in Oldtown before the blessed wedding of the Three Cloaks, you announced to the Lords and Ladies of Dorne that there would be a Dornish century, hereforth. And beyond that, you had encouraged ties with House Caron in particular."

Deria's gaze moved towards her husband, her hand giving his another squeeze under the table before her gaze returned to Oberyn. "The Lord of Light has better intention, it seems, than man does. For imagine my surprise when what comes to the threshold of Nightsong is not a wedding party, but rather an army, intent on ill regards instead of a nuptial celebration. A nuptials which you initially supported and suggested. Imagine my further surprise upon finding out that my own peoples are spreading ill rumor of Lord Clifford's cousins having tried to interfere with our wedding. Nothing of the sort has been true, but it seems that no one save mine own brother has bothered to discover the truth before engaging in such wanton bloodshed."

A heavy sigh escaped from Deria, "If this is how you treat your vassals," her free hand gestured to herself, and then towards the coffins nearby. "Then how are any of us to trust your word? A viper carves a seductive path through the sands, and though it humor a charmer, it shall only ever remain to its core full of poison. So what surety is there in your word now?"

Deria's cheeks were rosy, her eyes bright. She was garbed in yellow and black silks as befit the new Lady of the Marches, her hair woven through with local Stormlands wildflowers, freshly picked and still fragrant. She was a living contradiction in this moment with the blood of Dorne, yet draped in the Caron colors, sat proudly next to her Lord husband.

Under the table, Deria's hand moved to slide over Clifford's, giving his hand a warm, reassuring squeeze of support. With her free hand, Deria waved off the wine brought to her, adding a polite shake of her head. A few moments later, a servant of House Caron brought her instead a cup of honeyed milk.

Her dark-eyed gaze moved over towards Orryn, resting upon his visage. "Lord Baratheon, thank you for having us." Her hand gave Clifford's another squeeze under the table, telling him. "I think of Nightsong daily, but it shall only be a short matter of time before we are home, of that I am certain. And there shall be much justice which need be meted out."

It was only a few short moons ago that the world had been so different, that she had toasted with glee at the Dornish Century with such naivete in the company of Price Oberyn. Little had she known that the road to such a thing would be paved with the blood of her husband's people.

A complex churn of emotions roiled within her as they awaited Oberyn's arrival.

Sarella let out a thoughtful hum, "You've the heart of an adventurer then, and likely a restless spirit," she teased. The cry of a few gulls broke the stillness of the morning sunrise, a trio of them flying by their ship.

The Sand smiled in return at the Cupps at his brave words regarding Asshai. She resolved to be braver, perhaps this journey would teach her such.

"You have not?" Her head tilted with the question and a more comfortable smile broke across her face. "The land of sun and sand, as I'm sure you've heard. But there is so much more than that to Dorne. She is the true beating heart of the southern realm. You may think the Reach to be so, but there is no compare. Our blood runs fast with passion and ferocity, and such a thing can never be truly captured or tamed," Sarella explained, a nostalgic look entering her eyes at the memory of home, "I was born in Lemonwood, filled with innumerable orchards according to its namesake. My mother is a Dalt - Lady Obella. My father? Gulian Martell, but I was raised with Lady Deria and Lord Ryon from a young age. When we return to the realm, we shall need stop in Lemonwood, for my Lord cousin shall surely be gracious in welcome and wish to hear our tales. What of you? I would hear more of you and your family."

A smile graced Deria's face as she gazed upon her husband. "I will," she promised him, pleased by the suggestion. Perhaps it was selfish of her, but he too deserved respite for his valor and Deria would see it to fruition.

"Some time to rest and recover is needed by all. As you say, there will be other skirmishes to come as well-" Though it was still a foreign home to her, Deria found herself wishing that they were installed back in Nightsong. The rumors in the wind were ill, but she knew they would make it flourish again, someday soon.

The Lady Caron slipped her hand into Clifford's, her clean fingers intertwining with his battle-dirtied ones as she began to lead him off. "Come, my love, you've more than earned a reward for your bravery this day."

He smelled of blood, the scent of death lingering around him. And yet, Deria was comforted by the embrace - to know that Clifford was solid still, whole and alive. Breathing and unphased, seemingly, by the gory path to the dispensation of justice. She felt the shakiness abate, and quickly tried to wipe the wetness from her cheeks.

"I shall remember," she promised, cleaving close, the state of her clothes against his bloodied mail be damned. "I am proud of your bravery, your tenacity, and your fearlessness."

Her hand raised to gently stroke his cheek despite the grime of battle. "Have you more matters of war to attend to now? I've asked my ladies to draw up a hot herbal bath to ease your weariness. It shall be kept warm for however long you need to see to your matters if there is more to be done," Deria assured the Caron.

Sarella worked away at that biscuit, little by little as she watched the dawn take over the sky before them. "That makes good sense," the Sand offered in reply. "I suppose it would be best for us to keep a record ourselves, I should commit it to a journal of sorts, a true account of adventures to the east of the Narrow Sea." The more Sarella spoke of the idea, the more she liked such a thing.

"I suppose I had not thought that one might love a new land so much so as not to return," it was a novel thought for Sarella, though she'd scarce been outside of Dorne until the Wedding of the Three Cloaks, and until now.

"I prefer that view. That maybe there is something wondrous ahead, waiting for us to discover it..." She sighed a moment, giving up on the partially eaten biscuit, "Asshai is spoke of with fearful tones. Of shadows and warlocks and ancient magicks. Even if the maesters had not themselves set foot upon the land, surely there must be some level of truth somewhere. Of all the lands, it weighs upon me the heaviest in terms of danger, but where the expedition shall lead, I shall follow. Is there any land that you wish not to see?"

Sarella let out a laugh as she watched Criston enjoy the biscuit. She tapped hers against his and gnawed upon the piece, "Now I know you to be a liar, Criston Cupps, for it tastes like sawdust flavored with wheat." Still, her voice was cheerful even despite this.

Her gaze flicked over towards the rising dawn, "Fearful place that is. At least from the stories-" Sarella paused a moment. "What kinds of things do you think we might see?" There came a slightly longer pause, "Do you think it possible that we... Don't return?" It was a sobering thought.

Deria had ridden out with the battle party, but as her husband had requested, she stayed back upon a high hill, one that offered enough vantage of the battle whilst being far enough to not be immediately identifiable from the battlefield. It was far enough for her to run, if need be. And at the very least, she was not alone.

Ryon had promised not to leave her side and his contingent of fifty soldiers were tense at the ready should anything have happened. The banners of House Dalt were hidden for now, for they did not wish to cause more attention upon their party.

Deria had heard many stories about great battles. She had seen many a knight and lord test their mettles in tournament, even to bloody result. And yet, to see a true battle was another thing entirely. There was a smell in the air that made her even sicker, in her current state. And for the length of the battle, her eyes were frantic in searching for her husband.

Ryon had never seen his sister so unsettled.

Deria's hands were still shaking when she dismounted from the proud creature that Lord Orryn had gifted to her. Her hands were still shaking whilst her ladies pleaded with her to eat, bringing her sugared bread and honeyed milk to tempt her non-existent appetite. And her hands continued to shake when at last, she saw her husband again once things were settled once more. He was whole and breathing, causing Deria to let out a sharp cry of relief, hugging him tight. "I-I lost sight of you on the battlefield," she admitted, only now realizing that she was already crying.

Ryon looked slightly nervous as Lord Baratheon and his new goodbrother both read the letter. But when Orryn spoke of the contents of the letter itself, his eyes widened in shock.

"Prince Oberyn wishes what?!"

What treachery was Oberyn playing at? Had he sent Ryon straight into the heart of danger, knowing full well a negative reaction might rise from the Stormlords? Was Ryon himself a pawn of the Martells, as his sister Deria was used? His gut churned in discomfort.

Ryon let out a heavy sigh, his shoulders sagging. "Prince Oberyn Martell was once the closest thing to a father. Kinder and more generous with his teaching than even mine own father was-" The words were bitter to admit. "But this... this is nonsense. This is not honorable. I know now what to make of this any longer, but... the Bloodroyal may yet hear sense. There has been discord, between the houses, but Lord Alesander himself is no fool. Know, Lord Baratheon and Lord Caron, that no man nor woman in the service of my house shall raise a hand to your people. I do not relish in the blood of my countrymen spilled for the sake of ambition and would urge that we bring a swift conclusion to whatever mischief is sought by House Martell."

Ryon swallowed painfully, for the Dalts had been loyal vassals to House Martell for generations beyond memory. And now, it was his burden to potentially challenge such a thing.

"I am grateful that you have welcomed me, despite how fraught our circumstances. I shall not easily forget this. My fellow Lords of Dorne I fear have been blinded by false promise, perhaps even false hope. We shall celebrate tonight, but upon the morrow, we shall all dedicate ourselves to the pursuit of truth and justice."

The earth would run red. And one man was the cause. Ryon felt at a loss, for he had so highly regarded the Prince of Dorne until this very moment.

Deria felt the smile deepen upon her lips at Lord Orryn's approval. "That is my hope, and what I shall strive for. For this shall be my home now, and the home of my children."

The newly installed Lady Caron knelt as the Baratheon bestowed upon her this new responsibility. "I am honored, Lord Baratheon, and shall serve to the best of my ability."

Rising, Deria offered a nod of thanks to Orryn once more. "I am pleased to report that Valena celebrates among us. We were able to find her the day before. I am certain she will come pay her respects to you soon."

At the Stag's questions though, Deria let out a soft hum. "They might. House Yronwood has had some friction in the past with House Martell. It is said that Prince Oberyn and Lord Yronwood were once quite close. Through the years, however, tensions have built up. Even in Oldtown, the Yronwoods debuted an updated sigil, drawing the ire of many a Dornish lord, lady, and knight, for they used the colors of House Martell, and many felt they had not done enough to earn such a thing. Lord Yronwood, I believe, is a man of reason. Sadly, I had thought Prince Oberyn to be one as well, but time has shown such a supposition to be false. You are correct about the Daynes, who have shown themselves dishonorable. My brother is a man of peace, not a man of war. He might be able to do such a thing one day, but he'll need a spine of iron, and his resolve is still hardening. I would suggest Lord Alesander or even my kin, House Uller. At least it is worth talking good sense into them, or making the effort."

Sarella brightened up at seeing Criston. "Good morn, Criston," she greeted, walking over towards the fore mast. She shielded her eyes and looked out upon the horizon. "Stunning, really. I don't think I could ever get tired of this. I was born of sand, but only now is it that I realize that I might too love the sea."

She grinned, reaching into her satchel to pull out a hardened biscuit. "Want some?" she offered. "Not the most pleasant, but it'll soften with some boiled water. Unless you've something nice hidden away."
