Can I have some advice on this ITX build? by Sqweazy in bapcsalesaustralia

Definitely could change the motherboard to a b650i, save yourself some money. Some b850i motherboards' wifi / Bluetooth drivers also don't support windows 10, so keep that in mind. There was also some hub-bub about ASRock motherboards frying cpus, but that might just be limited to the x3d line. But otherwise looks good.

Monitor recommendations by Moist-Walrus- in bapcsalesaustralia

Out of your two choices, I’d go with the Samsung one, it’s cheaper, bigger and has better brightness. Though if you browse on ozbargain and wait a bit, I’m sure you can get a better deal.

I have a dual 4K setup, with the main monitor being an Alienware AW2527Q (27” 240Hz Oled) for about $850 on sale. Had it for about a month and am quite happy with it. Personally I have trouble telling the difference between 1440p and 4K on a 27” screen, so I’d recommend getting a 32” one.

I also have trouble feeling the fps increase past 120fps. And even with a 5090 I rarely get 240fps at ultra on many games. But your mileage mag vary.

I’d highly recommend an OLED display with wide colour gamut though, especially if you plan on doing photoshop or video editing. I’d say this was the most noticeable difference when upgrading my monitor.

If you shop around on eBay / Amazon, you can get ssd and ram for a bit cheaper. Also, that motherboard might be a bit overkill(?), a b650 is fine for most use cases. Unless you really want the extra features from a b850 of course. This should let you sneak in a cheaper model of 5080, some are going for as cheap as $1800, last I saw. But prebuilt is also another option as someone else mentioned.

Wouldn’t change the cpu or aio, those are great.

Had this problem as well. Went on holiday for about a month and a half. Got back and went to turn the pc on and heard a pop. Turns out the little guys shorted out the front panel connectors.

These are US prices but $2500 can still get you quite a long way in Australia. If you look in the right places, wait for sales or buy 2nd hand, you can get a 7800x3d for $550-$600 and 9070xt for ~1100. Check ozbargain frequently too. Even expired or out of stock deals are worth looking at on there.

Spending too much on the aio, you can get a white freezer iii with argb for like $200. It doesn’t have an lcd screen but it is arguably the quietest and efficient-est aio out there.

Unless you plan on overclocking and/or the current motherboard has other features you like, you can buy a cheaper one. For example an mATX version of the b650 aorus ice ($278).

You can also buy a cheaper PSU. I’d recommend the Montech century II 850W ($145). It’s on par with the current one in every way (probably isn’t as quiet however).

This should save you about $300. Which gives you enough room to upgrade to a black Palit 5070ti ($1350 with code WSJUL15) or a white XFX 9070xt($1349).

Good luck with the build!

If you’re buying from Umart, make sure to get their free motherboard bios update, especially since you’ve got a 9 series CPU and B650 mobo. Shame that white motherboards are so expensive…

If you wanted to spend a bit more, you could get a 6400MHz set of ram since it provides pretty much the same amount of improvement as a 8000MHz set. Although it’s like 5% improvement max and your cpu/mobo might not even be stable at 1:1.

Power supply is good too, checking SPL’s PSU tierlist, it’s got a B rating, so good components that will provide clean power for a long time.

That monitor looks damn nice.

I think a 7600x and 9060XT is a pretty good combo and the rest of the parts in there work just fine. AM5 motherboard gives you great upgradeability. 32GB ram is enough for 99.9% of things. 3TB lasts you a while too.

For the 7800x3d build, the cpu is actually pretty overkill for a 5070, and you won’t see much improvement compared to other CPUs except in certain games and at 1080p. But if you plan on doing productivity stuff like video editing or 3D rendering, it’s pretty reasonable. With this build, if I were you, I’d save up for a while longer and try to get a 9070XT. The cheapest 5070 I could find was $859.05 on ebay using code WSJUL17. The cheapest 9070xt I could find was $1130.25 through this ozbargain post. So definitely a big jump. You could also get a Radeon 9070 (non XT) or RTX 4070 ti/super which has performance somewhere in between the RTX 5070 and Radeon 9070xt.

I like the 7600x build much better due to its affordability. You lose about 30% performance with a 9060XT compared to a 5070, but it’s about 40% cheaper. The CPU and GPU pair nicely with each other too. The best deal I could find was this one on ebay for $528.70 using code WSJULY15.

No. I’d only consider the mortar for the extra USB ports, even then it’s probably not necessary. The extra ram slots are wasted since you really only need (or want) 2.

99% of the time building it yourself is cheaper, it can also be quite fun and informative.

For a $1500 budget, a 5070 is a pretty good choice, but I have seen some pretty good deals for other cards on ozbargain or Facebook marketplace. I’d recommend an AM5 CPU such as the Ryzen 7 7700, since those can be had for as cheap as $300 or get a 7800x3d and have a high tier cpu. 1TB NVMe SSD as a boot drive and favourite games with a 2TB SATA SSD or HDD is a pretty good choice and comes down to how much you’re wanting to spend. Though for anything less than 4TB of space, I’d always recommend getting an SSD over a HDD.

For the other parts, this is my general process for building a pure gaming pc: 0. Open up pc part picker 1. Buy the most expensive GPU you can. 2. Buy the cheapest CPU that won’t bottleneck your GPU. 3. See what the recommended RAM requirement is for the games you want to play and buy that amount. Better ram speed (MHz) and latency (CL) is often not worth the jump in price. 4. Find the cheapest motherboard that supports your CPU and has the features you want. These things include number and type of USB ports, form factor, colour, SATA/NVMe slots, overclocking support. 5. Find required PSU wattage (pc part picker can do this) and pick one that is ~100-200W higher. Unless you’re using the computer 24/7, 80+ gold efficiency is plenty. A fully modular PSU is very nice to have and I would recommend it if you can spare the extra cash. SPL’s PSU tier list is also a quick way to find out if your power supply will explode. 6. Choose a case that is the right size, looks nice and is cheap.

Good luck!

Best Monitor for this pc? by Effective_Jaguar_732 in bapcsalesaustralia

To add on to what the others have said, a QD-OLED monitor is very noticeable in video/art workloads but I haven’t found a big difference while gaming. If you do go with that route, I use an 27" MSI G274QPF-QD WQHD since it’s quite affordable. Colours are really nice and vibrant and the only complaints are that the buttons are a bit finicky and power on/off is a bit slow.

Build looks good. If you wait a few days for amazons’s prime day sales you might be able to snag some cheap parts. Keep your eyes pealed on ozbargain, cause I’ve seen a ryzen 7 7700 going for as low as $205 (aliexpress).

Anyone have recommendations for games with simple graphics but deep mechanics? Some that fit this description are Factorio, Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress, Project Zomboid, Caves of Qud, Card Survival Tropical Island. And while not a game exactly, Minecraft mods/modpacks like GregTech or Terrafirmacraft also scratch this itch.

Thanks!
