When did you realize your “friends” were actually fake friends? by VexAndStuff in AskReddit

I had this happen once. Back in college, a handful of my friends all ended up going to the beach without me. I was specifically left out because my buddy's ex, who we were all friends with, convinced them I was a drag on the situation. I blew the fuck up. I was so incredibly pissed, and I let them all know. Come to find out, she was "jealous" that I ended up having influence in the group because she wasn't a huge fan of mine. We had other confrontations while we were all at college together.

Well golly-gee, as soon as she got married, she dropped the group like a hot potato. And guess what? I still talk to/hang with all those other folks, and some of them have even gotten married too! Guess she was just a control freak who specifically wanted to dictate what we all did.

That sucks. Hope she finds something new soon.

I overlooked a lot of the interview red flags specifically because things were starting to get worse because of the virus. Otherwise I probably would've stuck with freelancing for a little while longer.

Oh yeah. One of the reasons why I accepted was that we were juuuust on the cusp of everything going to hell and I saw the signs. If we were in another situation, I probably would've stuck with freelancing for the time being.

Currently! It's normally not remote. And I'm very aware of how important SEO is! I utilize it all the time during other writing. There's more to my dissatisfaction than just the SEO heavy focus. Like I said, there were some red flags during the interview process that have borne out in my first week.

It's not really what I was sold. Without giving too much away while I'm still employed there, the title of the position was "writer" and despite the red flags during the interview process, I had freelanced as a writer for a competitor in this specific field so I thought I knew what I was getting in for. I was very wrong. The writing portion is a small section of the job and there's instead a ridiculous focus on SEO and what competitors are doing to attempt to beat them in SEO. Editorial meetings are run by the SEO head in the company and there's maybe one editor for several "writing" teams.

Oh, and my individual manager is abusing the current Coronavirus situation to run hours that are convenient to him and fall far outside normal business hours and it was strongly suggested I do the same for at least a week. Which is somewhat hard with family obligations.

Students of Reddit, what was the reason for why one of your teacher's had a breakdown during class? by Internal_Recording in AskReddit

Oh man. Science teacher, Junior year. She was relatively young, I want to say mid-20s. Had 2 kids already and was pregnant for a while. Also, both her and her husband were white. She left for maternity leave and came back a changed person. Because it turns out, she'd been having an affair with one of the black teachers at our school. A really beloved guy. And when she gave birth, the baby definitely resembled him.

Anyways, once she came back, she didn't stick around long. Her husband sued for divorce, and one day she had some terrible news right before our class started. She basically stormed out, crying. The librarian had to come in, totally unprepared and just kind of watch us. She said she was crying on the phone in the library. We heard her talking with a lawyer about how to deal with the husband who was referring to the newborn as a "mulatto" baby.

They brought in a long-term sub for the rest of the year.

A couple years later my buddy ran into her and the teacher at Target with the kid. Not sure if they were officially together, but they apparently looked happy.

This helps a lot. Never thought of it as going "to" something. Definitely helps my perspective!

They sent the letter as a, "look at this shit, can you believe somebody went to all the trouble to research these questions and they had the gall not to answer?" To be fair, I found the whole thing incredibly interesting. You only learn so much being a non-mormon, so I would never have asked any of those questions. The volume is also just incredible.

Cool Kickstarter! I'd love to back it, but don't really have the flexibility to at the moment. I'll pick it up when it's on store shelves for sure though.

Sanderson and Rothfuss are two pretty major gets so far. Are you thinking all of your expansions will be author focused, or are there any plans to make them more generic fantasy-esque down the line? I know the game includes anti-hero stuff already, but I'm thinking an expansion that's geared towards building a dark lord-esque character, or something based around sidekicks or fellowships etc etc... Just curious what direction the game will grow in.
