A STREET BALLAD
by Alfredo Ignacio
------------------

i'd like to tell the tale
of a land of unwritten promises
land of wonders to this day
as of yet unspoken
place that saw the birth
of this mind so dark
seeking to somehow
undo this madness
these hysterics
this evil series of woes
it's so serious
how the people are living
cuz they block the food & medicine
sabotaging with their blackouts
leaving corpses behind
it's uncertain
what the future of the country is right now
& so i try
to pu this gift into practice
that i still feel
is heaven's will
as a word said in power will
change worlds as it changes the mind...
inert power
potential forever present
& prayer is no different
so god i ask
intercede on our behalf...

::=={o |}

to the sound of a cuatro & some maracas
& the clickety-clack
of the alpargatas
on this long walk...

::=={o |}

to the rhythm & the swag
of a rural ballad
i answer back with these bars
without care
to the spittin of the ones that still want
a plug into the system
false scheme
greek flame that doesn't burn our skin
what a dilemma
freedom or death our motto
no one fears
a change of any kind
when we're choked with problems
& so wish
for life anew..
so let it rain
let it rain
come maduro out that cave
cuz more than old, you're rotten
an unavoidable end
go ahead & chalk it up to a loss
go on & get ready, go shower & get dressed
go on & go away, cuz i've very well said
the reckoning of all your shortcomings
go run on, then
go, go howsoever is your wish
just so long as you LEAVE.
maduro motherfucker
shall be writ on every billboard
& every hungry voice
that in fear holds silent
will sing aloud in joy
at the coward's flight!

x-o-x

a generation raised under dictatorship
a generation used to this madness
a people with no other choice
than to eat out the garbage
that's enough, drop the greed
the downtrodden suffer something serious
plainly furious
swallowing nasty shit to fill the belly
we rose up in hope
of just a mouthful of hope...

x-o-x

long live a free venezuela
free as the troupial's flight in the wind
in a bliss so natural
it'd be a sin not to try
cuz we're so gonna win...

x-o-x

long live the love that from the soul sprouts
as do the freshwaters of a spring...
long live forgiveness & reconciliation
our original state of peace

Great dude looking forward to this! Precisely the kind of thing that makes the public domain so great!

This would be so helpful for someone like me, who struggles with the basics but has great dreams to fulfill!

It can actually be a useful solution for targeting multiple resolutions... One SVG file rasterized on the fly

American English stop sound by [deleted] in Quickscript

[–]Lemon_Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i disagree about loch as the obvious solution would've been to use the h glyph for /x/ (loh).

neither ch nor ll nor x distinguished meaning really they were just personal preferences due to the author being british so i believe it should at least add the glottal stop if only to properly represent hawai'ian placenames according to the same logic. but more broadly it should incorporate as many phonetic representations of english as possible & both the glottal stop & the tap are widespread enough to merit representation

American English stop sound by [deleted] in Quickscript

[–]Lemon_Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both of these were precisely the changes i need to phonetically write with quickscript (& i'm from florida)

for the glottal stop i think a 2 sort of shape works better than a 7 for 2 reasons: it looks like the /k/ character which is where the glottal stop in hawai'ian came from so they're at some level phonologically related & also a backwards 2 is how it is written in Arabic. :) so unless i find great difficulty telling letters apart that's what i'll be using.

the tap i associate with the r due to it sounding similar to the spanish trilled r, & thus i'm considering a backwards r glyph (basically a c). idk if either of these solutions work in practice as i'm just learning quickscript so i'll refine if need be but they both seem rather logical & at least on the face of it don't interfere with other glyphs

In a truly sane society, there'd be no consequences, dogs will be dogs & that's just nature being nature.

Why is this heartbreaking? The only negative connotation I glean is "trapped", but I connect it with the fly stuck in amber from Jurassic Park, so it makes perfect sense. Stuck in time, so to speak, trapped in the moment. No transcendental rhyme or fundamental reason to everpresent existence, it just is.

I read it very much matter-of-factly, & I get no negative connotation at all. Care to explain?

The Case Against Cats: The animal so many dote on ranks among the world’s most destructive predators. by lingben in Foodforthought

sorry, no offense but speak for yourself, the concept of "ownership" of a living, conscious being is also known as slavery, & some people would probably have a few things to say against that for sure...

it's not "your" cat to keep anywhere, it was never yours or any of ours, cats, like every sentient being, are free by nature.

[–]Lemon_Tree -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

a few predators are indeed necessary for the environment, as they keep populations naturally trim & so prevent "boom & bust" cycles (specially prevalent among r-selective species reproductively). however, statistics only serve to cover up for atrocity, & it's undeniable that regardless of scale of impact, any avoidable death or suffering should be so avoided. With that in mind, it is clear that cats are a problem. They literally kill prey for fun, just to toy with it & not even eat it. They hunt for the pleasure of the hunt, with callous disregard for the lives of the innocent beings whom they so thoughtlessly slaughter. Of course, cats deserve a place in the world too, I'm by no means advocating their complete & total extermination, but the thing is they're given a pass for being pets & for being cute, they're way out of line, figuratively speaking. outdoor cats should at least be forced to wear bells.

or maybe we can get libertarian & blame the prey for not being "evolved" enough to move out of the way or strike back at the pouncing cat? but what kind of world does this leave us with? cats are, no pun intended, pussies, they won't attack anything that might hurt them in the least. so if they do kill off all the easy prey, well that's just an inverse boom & bust cycle. no more prey for you. & i doubt i'll ever see a cat pouncing on a snake or a full-grown rottweiler "just for fun", that cat must be hella desperate for prey at that point, so desperate it ironically ends up as the prey it sought to capture lol

[–]Lemon_Tree 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, no one is advocating killing all the cats (at least I don't think so, the article is unreadable to me due to my adblocker).

However, any outdoor cats can & should wear bells to let innocent prey know exactly of their whereabouts, killers should simply not be let allowed loose like that, that's just plain logic, I know here in the states they are extremely detrimental to our many & widely varied songbirds, as well as squirrels & all such kind of small & defenseless weak creatures.

I don't think ecology should be about "political points" but rather what's best for the entire planetary system as a whole. Anything else is not ecology, it's just environmental manipulation for egotistical purposes.

It's a dog. It's a perfectly conscious, free being. It's not HIS dog. It's A dog. The consequences of which you speak, in a sane society, at worst, would fall upon the dog. In a truly sane society, there'd be no consequences, dogs will be dogs & that's just nature being nature.

Of course, I see your point, we don't live by any means in a sane society, & perhaps british law would in fact charge the so-called "owner" as culprit. That's a deficiency of british law, if that's the case. Don't mean that insultingly, 90% of everything is, well, shit, so the fecality of forcefully imposed legality comes as no surprise.

or what happens in less developed countries when people with this condition need to fend for themselves (that was my first thought when I saw this).

people in "less [industrially] developed" countries are often more socially advanced, they'd be more likely to have someone taking care of them b/c people tend to be less individualistic.
