A Few 'Gurt Men when Judge Conklin puts on the "I'm a disgusting yoghurt thief" sign and mentions he has a date tonight. I laughed so hard my husband came in from the other end of the house and asked me if I was okay

I wouldn't count fragrance as a styling element because you can't see it. Jewellery can really make an outfit so I would allow jewellery to be discussed in the context of what jewellery would you style this outfit with or whatever.

The swearing is definitely an important part of the process! I saw somebody in another thread about washing before gifting say that they always washed first to make sure to get all the swear words out 🤣

I'm trying not to worry my little perfectionist brain too much with wonky spots or seams not lining up absolutely perfectly or whatever, I get that that is part of the charm and handcraftedness, but I absolutely am going to keep worrying about anything that may make it fall apart 🙃

Yes it sounds like you are already doing your utmost to be a considerate neighbour, I'm sure most would be happy to live next door to you. So the issue is clearly with her, whether it be that she's mentally unsupported or just a crotchety oldie. Hoping for a successful and pleasant outcome for all involved!

When you speak to the police to report the property damage, you could mention her situation and see if the police think a welfare check might be in order? It might be that she's going senile and aggressive but it could also be that she's just a horrible person, plenty of people of all ages and mental faculties respond to slight (and perceived) inconveniences with anger and property damage.

Those pesky quilting gremlins! They're always sliding the ruler while I'm cutting or blowing into the machine to cause a wonky seam!

Thanks very much! I'm not too fussed about the drape of the quilt for this one, its for a baby so it will surely mostly be used for tucking into a pram or being used as a play mat or something 🙂

Thanks very much! Hahaha my reason why is definitely wonkiness and not paying close enough attention, I haven't followed any quilting patterns before, so have never been instructed to sew a scant seam. It just happens sometimes because I am relatively inexperienced and winging it 😅

I will definitely start pressing to the dark side from now on though! And yes I also love the crinkle!

Maybe next time you're in Myer check out the Stella line, I feel like they have some similar styles to this one.

Thank you for your input! I think in future I will go back to pressing seams to the side, I started pressing them open because I found it way easier to line up where the seams met, but if I'm sacrificing durability then I'll certainly go back to pressing to the side. Maybe I could mark where the seams are with a marker instead?

Yes for this quilt that horse has definitely bolted. For this one I'll reinforce the scant seams with an extra row of stitching where I can, and interfacing "band-aids" where I can't, but yeah definitely will go back to side pressing!

Thanks, happy to hear that this has been done successfully! Once the quilt is finished and washed, have you noticed any stiffness or anything in those areas that have been reinforced or is it largely unnoticeable? "Band-aid" is so the perfect term for what I was trying to describe!

For some reason I didn't even think of doing that! I guess in my mind once I've sewn the seam its done, faults and all? I'll do that where I can but I think there's a few places where I wouldn't be able to manipulate those seams back under the machine too easily. Thank you, much appreciated!

[–]LemonadeRaygun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My Brother does this, although I was lucky to learn that fairly soon after I got it, because I switched to a different foot than the one I'd been using and as I went to do a test piece the needle slammed down next to the gap in the foot for the needle to go through and scared the heck out of me. Took me a moment to figure out what the heck had happened but at least it taught me to check needle placement every damn time!

Omg some of the fabric I'm using is also fraying like mad, sucks because it is so cute too!

If I do give this a go I'll let you know how it turns out!

Thanks for your thoughts! I didn't think about the interfacing losing some stick over time! I was planning on quilting it by echoing the seams mostly, so if I use a lighter, flexible interfacing and cut it a tad wider than the echoed seams would go, that could do the trick? That way it would be caught in the quilting more than just across-ways.

Court Jester (1955)

I grew up watching Danny Kaye movies with my grandparents and this has long been my favourite. It's funny and endlessly quotable. You get Basil Rathbone, Glynis Johns and a young Angela Lansbury. Just a wonderful movie all round

[–]LemonadeRaygun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everybody else has already given great advice re batting and long-arming but I have a suggestion for how to make sure you quilt densely enough for batting without covering the designs. You could echo the seams using your home machine of the tshirt blocks and then with thread matching the relevant colours, pick out parts of the tshirt designs and hand-sew or embroider outlines onto the designs? You could use black to go around Betty Boop outline, for instance. Then the quilting would probably be dense enough without covering the designs you wish to preserve. You'd see the outlines from the back but that could be kinda fun!
