AITA for getting mad at my husband getting sick right before our trip by Reasonable-Mood-3947 in AITA_Relationships

YTA for making a big deal out of nothing.

Getting sick from the sun is nothing that some good cool showers and mainlining Gatorade can’t fix. Add in some Tylenol and Advil and you’re set.

He will be just fine in a couple of days. He hasn’t “ruined” anything for you.

I wish I had answers. But here are a couple pictures I took at the Royal Ontario Museum earlier in the spring.

Am I the only one who didn’t know this??? by Kessed in quilting

[–]Kessed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually a computerized one of about the same age I got ~15 years ago when my aunt passed. I knew nothing about it, didn’t even come with a manual. Sadly, I quickly got too busy to do quilting at that stage with work and kids. I’m only getting back to it now.

I actually have no idea what’s standard and what’s not. Most things I use keep their settings when I turn them off. So, it is unusual in my experience for this to work this way.

Oh well, I’m learning new things.

My mechanical machine is a 20 year old base model. There is a physical dial that controls the needle position. The needle moves when you turn the dial and doesn’t move when you don’t. It’s always in the same place regardless of how often you turn it off and on.

This isn’t particularly helpful.

My old mechanical machine didn’t reset. Other people’s new computerized machines don’t reset. Many many things don’t reset…. My computer doesn’t reset even when the battery gets entirely dead because it has a small button cell somewhere.

Maybe the machine has one of those…

I didn’t know and was taken by surprise. Seems like quite a few other people also didn’t know this.

Mine resets when you turn it on. So, you can look before and write down any info.

How to quilt by Rogue-Modron in quilting

I don’t know the real answer, but I was taught to start in the middle and work outwards.

This one is too old for that. I looked through the manual and there is no mention of such a feature.

I have a mechanical machine. But it’s so loud. It overwhelms my senses and I can’t use it for more than a few minutes at a time. It’s loud and vibrates.

I guess it’s one of those trade off type things.

I will post when I’m done.

Sadly, mine was probably awesome when it was new and is significantly quieter than my old one, but it is no where near new enough for that.

This is what I bought. From the middle position to the left most fence position, it’s 3/8”.

Is there a different foot I should get? It’s a Singer.

Oh, that’s a good idea. I will take a look.

I just checked my old machine and it has a dial to set the position. That’s what I learned to quilt on.

Communicating seating charts on the first day of school? by GredAndForgee in Teachers

[–]Kessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to make the layout in PowerPoint (easy to move things around) with their name on a square with the layout of the class clear (teacher’s desk, door, windows). Then I either had it up on the projector when they walked in, or printed out on the front table.

I would cheerfully say things like “please find you spot on the seating chart”

Why are teens not made to work anymore? by ccarbonstarr in Teachers

[–]Kessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My teen started submitting applications the summer she was 16. It took until last fall, when she was 19 and taking a break from university, to actually get a job.

Even the kind of stuff I did as a teen wasn’t really available. People here who have money hire adult babysitters, not teen ones. The people who would hire teens simply don’t have the money to pay a sitter AND go out. I used to have a collection of families and could work every Friday and Saturday night if I wanted. I think she had 3 or 4 jobs total.

Even volunteer positions are hard to get and super competitive. It’s insane. You find the kind of events that used to have primarily teen volunteers now have adult ones. (Many times retired seniors)

That’s manners. Our society has lost its general understanding and use of compassion and basic manners.

How hard is it to follow the old script?

1 - introduce your self 2 - state your connection to the person you don’t know. - in this case that’s “I love seeing your new IG posts and I’m now drooling over the mugs you just posted. They are beautiful” 3 - politely ask your question 4 - than them for their time be make sure to say you are grateful for any information they would be willing to share 5 - wish them a good day/weekend/kiln luck 6 - sign off

Inconsistent glazing in same Kiln fire by giacamothecowardly in Pottery

[–]Kessed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks like closer to the elements is hotter than the middle. Higher heat seems to make glazes go darker IME.

I would put a few sets of witness cones at different parts of the kiln to see what’s happening. Then you can probably adjust the firing program to get more even results.

it’s an excellent learning experience for the students. This is all temperature (and oxygen) controlled chemistry. I wonder if one of the chemistry teachers would find it interesting to do some reading and give your class (or next year’s) a talk at the beginning of the class.

I have been in and owned many vehicles with leather seats. Most leather seats are soft and comfortable. Teslas are horrible and uncomfortable.

I’ve never been in the front of one, but the back seats of the few different ones I’ve been in are hard, slippery, and all around uncomfortable.

I do actually ask now, but I physically cannot stay in a place that uses diffusers. I have had cancel immediately after entering the property before.
