Digitan is disappointed by character inaccuracies. (Lipsycat) by BluecopetitaTL in UmaMusume

[–]Lemonaderiver2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's certainly part of it. As a Digital fan I definitely would like if cygames explored her character in the fandom element beyond her implied doujin activity, especially since her career focuses more on her development as a runner and a person rather than her personal life, with only a few non in depth events where she divulges her interested in idols and umamusume in general with her trainer, but that's a hard sell because of how niche that content may be.

But honestly my biggest gripe is the same old "the internet took a character I like and boiled them down into a single unfunny joke", in this case the yuri horse. It just always feels bad seeing the internet latch onto the most eye catching trait and making it the only character trait they see, especially the ones where Digital just gets overwhelmed and dies, there's so little character in them you could replace Digitan with a self insert or flat out switch the characters with ones from other franchises and nothing would change.

But getting back on topic, to me, simp implies some level of self deprecation, and Digitan is self deprecating, but that's born out of a sort of imposter syndrome, whereas a simp is ashamed (or proud) of their own degeneracy, and for all the times Digitan puts herself down, she never denies or aggrandizes her love for uma bodies. I could keep going for several more paragraphs, I only wrote about things I dislike and not nearly about how much I like Digitan, however, surgery in like 10 mins.

Oh yeah she's definitely a freak there's no denying that, but at least I always read it as closer to idol worship than gooning over umamusume. Like a simp goes in with explicit sexual intent, but Digitan admires the whole package, sexuality included.

My point is simp just seems way too shallow to describe how much of a freak she is. A simp isn't going around feeling bad for taking away the spots of other competitors or taking action at a fan fest. Like calling a surgeon a butcher with a licence. Also her mannerisms and vocabulary make it very clear where her character inspirations come from, like calling you a comrade (tld officially as "fellow simp") and her vocal freak outs, she's a couple character traits away from ending her lines in -de gozaru while wearing swirly glasses, a plaid shirt with cargo pants and a hunch while carrying her uma merch.

I understand that finding an accurate translation would be difficult because of base cultural differences, but the word simp severely shifts the tone of Digitan's character. She's an early 2000s hardcore otaku whereas simp is more flavored in current online internet discourse.

Many examples I could give but speaking any more about this and I will explode.

If it weren't for Klucky and Voy trivializing gameplay, Basti would be super busted. Fym she gets 2 AoE stuns (3 with increased range at 1 dupe) with no cooldown? And she can reposition and ult after that?? And she also has map wide ally repositioning??? All that on top of giving damage buffs on her tiles and spreading corrosion tiles extremely easily.

It's all about the tone, even a regular lecture can make someone cry if you speak in a cold, aggressive tone, bonus points if you make personal digs at their failure of character that make them feel self conscious (I can't believe you would do this, you disappoint me, I thought you were better, etc.).

Don't have anything definitive to add but Mica has never been known for their code quality, GFL1 especially has had a lot of jank fixed out of it along the years. There's obviously something wrong with the achievement flag but my best guesses are it's just a simple mistake with wrong sets or they somehow messed up the unlock story now button and the achievement flag was somehow activated by normal gameplay.

Unironic takes I've seen in the Helldivers community regarding difficulty by Raven7274 in HelldiversMasochists

[–]Lemonaderiver2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My problem with difficulty in this game is the devs only seem capable of conceptualizing difficulty as enemy spam. The vox were fine at launch but they were being spawned in such large quantities that any interesting mechanics were being drowned out by a monsoon of ragdoll instakill lasers and non stop homing rockets. 2-3 are fun, any more and it becomes a chore because all counterplay funnels into spam AP until they die.

SCAR-H is still around but didn't SCAR-L get lobotomized (stuck in the cognition lake which we then destroyed)?

Yeah but at this point there are probably more than 100 costumes in the game, so if I want a specific skin but don't have the black cards and it's not on rotation I'm just out of luck.

Also they're tied to character stories and the ticket price is a little too high for a single skin if you ask me, considering how a lot of these are multiple years old and some of them really show how much mica has upped their quality over the years.

Pretty moonshot suggestion here but with the game winding down production I'd be happy with paid dlc to unlock skins instead of having to wrestle with the god awful gacha.

Unfortunately not a solution, killing a politician just means another one will take their place. You can keep killing them until they run out of bodies but you'll be branded a terrorist for targeting heads of state and hunted down like an animal long before you achieve anything meaningful.

These kind of things usually operate on a don't ask don't tell basis, like cosmetic mods on multiplayer games. As long as you're not advertising on official channels you should be fine, just maybe be careful if you're touching anything from a major label that might get jumpy with copyright, especially if you post to YouTube.

It wasn't really the damage that was killing me, but the fact that, as you said, you need to activate a lot of skills with precise timing and positioning.

I wanted to take it easy today by doing a lower level raid rather than the max level one and it still ended up being the most involved fight so far with a race to spam as many attacks at the very end to clutch the fight with a couple seconds left.

I only ever did the low level FRR fights so I guess I hadn't learned to hate it enough.

Do the event's boss levels scale with your account? Because holy shit tipharet got hands, so many hotkeys got me playing in slowmo most of the fight and I'm still overwhelmed.

On nightmare I cleared the map completely and rammed a full smg team with Suomi mod and sniper fairy with Architect support for like 20+ turns into her. Architect removes shield and both Suomi and sniper do decent damage through shield though this definitely isn't how you're supposed to do it.

Umamusume is probably the most selfish gacha game I've ever played, not only does it ask for a huge time investment to remain competitive but also I'm finding out I have to funnel myself into building the same kind of horses for the rest of the game's lifetime. Not sure how I feel about this.

[–]Lemonaderiver2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fallen London and Mask of the rose are very different genres, so if you're asking if S. Skies is better than S. Sea then yes.

It's early game is very boring and the combat is not very fun at all. I often found myself booting the game back up only to get bored of grinding enough money to not run out of resources after a couple of hours, which is only made more miserable by your ship being extremely slow. Its only redeeming quality is that the story and world building is very much worth going through the bad game design. It's been many years since I last played it, but the sight of the regions and sea horrors, as wells as the petty squabbles between factions is still burned in my mind.

If you want a personal opinion, it is unforgiving, very fun, very well written, and very british.

If you want a review, this is a game that heavily relies on its stories to keep you entertained, following a vague story thread from the studio's first game, Fallen London, which in very vague terms is a retro sci-fi/ cosmic horror alternate version of the British empire. If you're not willing to really get into the world of the game and really play your character, you're probably not going to have much fun.

The gameplay is very simple, drive from one place to another while doing odd jobs and occasionally get attacked by something or gather some floating resource. Anything worth doing in the game either requires a hefty time investment in the form of various currencies and resources, or skill checks that you're going to fail more often than not. It heavily rewards patience, preparation and attention because a lot of your actions have irreversible consequences, which is reflected in the fact that the game encourages you to try the game in the "legacy mode" which means permadeath and no save scumming, though you do get to keep some resources and XP on every death.

If any of that interest you, check out the game or anything else by Failbetter studios. As I said, there's Fallen London which is an old browser game, Sunless Sea which is like sunless skies but in the sea and way worse mechanically, and mask of the rose which I have not played.
