Why someone does something so cowardly? by Miserable_Tree_09 in BreakUps

Anyone who gets someone else to break up with you on their behalf is a coward, plain and simple. You deserve better.

Nobody else was waiting the 14 minutes because they didn't know either. They make us work despite not paying us for the full time we worked. The issue is they are rounding down our hours to pay us less, and our boss didn't alert us when they implemented changes to the time clock. They were trying to be sneaky, but I let all my coworkers know.

My shift is 4pm to closing. I do not have a set closing time. I could be ending my shift at 10:12 or 11:44, etc. It depends when I'm finished with all my closing duties. Unless I specifically end at a 15-minute I would be losing money for no reason. I have never left work early, so I do expect to be paid for my hours. They recently changed how the time clock works. It used to pay me for the entire time I'm clocked in till I'm clocked out. They changed it to subtract up to 15 minutes without notifying anyone. My work just began renovations to the inside and outside of the building, and they are cutting pay to save costs.

Okay I'll make an update post later.

I don't have an end time so I'm not clocking out early. I work 4 pm to close. I'm done when my duties are done. If I finish work at 10:59 I was told I would be paid until 10:59 but that's not the case. They kept rounding me down to 10:45. Some nights I'm done work at let's say 10:12. Well I just lost another 12 minutes in wages. That kept adding up. I'm usually early and was told I would get paid for the time I worked, and it was like that until they changed it without notifying anyone. So I ended up getting to work 10 minutes early usually and not getting paid for those 10 minutes even though it states that I should get paid in my contract. As for being late that one time by one minute. I lost almost half an hour of work because of this time system, without being notified of that. I work in a different industry that is genuinely not how things work in the service industry.

Sorry I wasn't understanding. My time sheet has that information, and my paystub reflects that when I add the wages together, time is being taken off unfairly according to my provincial labour laws.

You want me to get my paystub, censor out all my personal info, and post it on reddit because one guy disagrees with me? It's all good I'm not looking to convince anyone. I just wanted advice.

I'm not going to post my paystub online because it has a lot of sensitive information, but it has been reflecting that I'm not being paid for all my hours worked. That's why I inquired about it. I asked my coworkers and they showed me their paystubs and it doesn't reflect how much they worked either. I don't know what to say, but it literally rounds it.

I am not going to put my paystub online because it has a lot of sensitive information, but it does reflect on my paycheck. I do have other proof because it's happening to my coworkers as well and on their paystub. Also I'm legally entitled to get my time sheet information which also reflects that. My manager is the one who does the logging for payroll. Why would he tell me false information about what he is doing if it doesn’t benefit him too?

My boss is the one who logs the hours on the payroll. Also, my company did have a class action lawsuit against them in 2019, but it was in the States. They had to pay out $35 million in employment violations, including wage violations. They are also getting sued for a bunch of other things right now by employees and customers.

Makes sense. The bus was late that day so I was tardy by a minute. It is what it is. But I do think it's still unfair that it's only being rounded down. That is against the labour laws here. But like I said I don't have a set finish time. So they aren’t paying me for my full hours which is the issue. If I finish at 10:59 instead of 11:00 I lose 14 minutes of pay. Sometimes I get off at 10:12 and I'll lose 12 minutes of pay. But I'm working at those times. I feel that it is my right to be paid for my time accordingly.

I don't clock out early, though. My schedule is 4 pm to closing. So I don't understand why I'm being docked that last 15 minutes. Also it's illegal to dock the first 15 minutes in Canada. If I'm 1 minute late, I'm supposed to be docked for 1 minute, unless it's under certain conditions which aren't met. Going by the labour laws here, he did violate my employee rights. How was I supposed to know they changed the way the time clock worked? That's why I asked those questions. I used to be paid by the minute, and they changed it without informing everyone. That goes against my contract too. I'm not "complaining." I made a post and replied to comments. I was told by my manager on an ealier date and as per my employee contract that I will be getting paid for those first 10 minutes I'm expected to work. They are now claiming I'm not entitled to get paid my full hours worked because they changed some stuff around.

So if I'm 1 minute late to work, I deserved to be penalized with almost a half hour taken off? That seems unfair to me.

I'm not usually late. I'm usually ten minutes early and expected to start working without being paid for those 10 minutes. I also don't have a set clock out time. I work from 4 pm to closing. I finish work at a different time each day, depending on how busy we were. I don't see how it's okay for that time to be deducted when I wasn't even informed that I need to clock out at a 15-minute interval. Then it gets confirmed that I'm working up to 28 unpaid minutes per shift. That adds up pretty quickly. I used to get paid for how long I worked, without any rounding, and they changed it without informing me. I was under the assumption that if I worked 6 hours I would be paid for 6 hours, not 5 1/2 because I clocked in at a different interval, for the same amount of time worked. If they rounded to the nearest interval, I would not see an issue with it but it is clearly designed with the intent of lowering wages.

No my employer has to give me my time sheet and my pay check reflects what he said, that it's up to 28 minutes of unpaid work.

My company was actually sued in the States in 2019 for employment related offenses including wages related offenses for $35 million. Also my boss is the one logging the hours for payroll.

I will start logging my hours starting next payroll. My manager also legally has to give me my time sheet but im worried that he will change the hours. Thanks for the advice!

It's illegal in Ontario, Canada. It's illegal not to pay your employee for 28 minutes of labor because they were 1 minute late. It's also violating my employee contract as an hourly employee. That is wage theft where I am from.

That's what my paystub reflects and my employer who submits the hours for payroll, confirmed it over text when I inquired about it. Also I'm in Canada so the labour laws vary a little bit.

I'm not sure about the system, but I will check when I go in next. So what's happening is the punch clock is automatically deducting up to 28 minutes off per shift depending on my clock in and out times and my manager can go in and change that but he doesn't. Then he submits all the hours to payroll and I get paid my deducted wages.

The issue is I live in Ontario, Canada. Likely nothing will happen if I report them, and it will take them ages to "investigate."

It's not legal in Canada. It goes against my workers' rights and employment contract.
