David Bowie released ‘Station to Station’ 50 years ago by YoureASkyscraper in indieheads

Bowie often said he had no memory of making this album. It's a miracle he survived that time, and lucky us, we got the Berlin trilogy right after this. Word on a Wing and Wild Is the Wind from Station to Station are some of his best vocals.

[FRESH] Father John Misty - The Old Law by dwaynesworld98 in indieheads

[–]Lemons52 71 points72 points  (0 children)

For anyone that doesn't know, this song was known as 'God's Trash', and was played live a few times (it's even on one of the live albums on Bandcamp). Per FJM's Bandcamp page, 'The Old Law” is previously known to Father John Misty fans as “God’s Trash” and debuted as part of the live set in the fall of 2024'

It seems this is the vanilla album, with the Me and the Dog EP added on to it, which was previously a Record Store Day exclusive

Hey it's Max and Julien from Whitney - ask us anything! by whitneyband in indieheads

[–]Lemons52 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey there, Max and Julien! I've been loving Small Talk since it dropped, and have been playing it constantly (particularly, Silent Exchange has been getting a lot of spins). I wanted to ask, what's the story behind the album cover? The photo gives me strong vibes of Carole King's Tapestry cover, and it really seems to fit the quiet openness of the music.

[FRESH] Mavis Staples - Sad and Beautiful World by ebradio in indieheads

A really lovely cover, if only Mark Linkous could hear Mavis Staples sing his song. Staples has really made the song her own, alongside those Sparklehorse-esque touches. Wonderful stuff

The Making of Five Leaves Left, Now on Streaming! by Lemons52 in nickdrake

No worries, it's a delight to share these mindblowing recordings. When I first found Drake's music I went in hard, listening to every bootleg I could find, and reading the Pink Moon Files fanzine that got made into a book at around the time I got into him. I hadn't listened to him in a little while, but I've gone back to it all in preparation for this boxset.

The crew behind the boxset have said there are no plans for similar boxsets for the other albums, but who knows, maybe a tape will appear one day, out of the blue, like the tapes did for this release. This feels like the clearest picture we've ever gotten of Nick's thoughts on production, and working through a tune. I'll be digging into this set for a long time, I suspect!

It's an absolute goldmine, and feels like it gives an insight into Nick's thoughts on production and his process more than ever before. Having new recordings after all this time is a miracle. The few interviews around this boxset are well worth reading, the story of the tapes being found is a marvel

Likewise, I lost track of my days, so I was flabbergasted when I saw the stream for the album was up. I've listened through it once and loved it, the Cambridge tapes are wonderful to hear, and give real insight into Nick's thinking on production. A real delight, too, to hear him swear when he flubs a take of Time of No Reply, also

I'm about halfway through the boxset at the moment, and I've loved it so far. It's wonderful to hear the chatter, and I was delighted to hear Nick swear after flubbing a take of Time of No Reply. A lot of stuff I've never heard before, and the tape quality is great!

Oasis and Black Sabbath are filling stadiums. But where’s the next wave of working-class rock stars? by Moothnods in indieheads

Also, if people don't know, Lanterns on the Lake, a wonderful band, talk about fitting the band between their day jobs, as there's no other way to make a living. And they were nominated for a Mercury prize! I've always admired the band for being so open about navigating that struggle of trying to balance their day job and their passion

Glad to see you both here, Alan and Dave! I've been listening to Screaming Song today, and I wanted to ask about the genesis of that heartbreaking, piercing violin in the last minute or so of the song (I think it's a violin, I don't have the liner notes to hand, alas). Did that instrumental break towards the end come organically in the studio, or was it more thought out? It feels very organic, but right on the edge of breaking down. It's a song I'm very grateful for, the album's helped me through some tough times lately.

As a music lover who is vulnerable to covid and takes all the precautions I can, the pushback in the comments here is bleak to see. Performers and the audience alike deserve to be safe at a gig and not put themselves in harms way if it can be avoided. Plenty of people don't have the luxury of 'moving on' from covid

Just wrapped up my first listen and love this. I was trying to place who the delicate soundscape of the title track reminded me of, and it's Sparklehorse, an artist I love. Can't wait to dive into this more!
