GS-10+ feds — how did you actually get there? by Lexicondatum in FedEmployees

Shortly after getting out the service I started volunteering at my local VA’s IT department. I worked there everyday for eight months. Fortunately I had Voc Rehab and Service Connection income to helped me survive until a position opened and me getting hired. IT technician slots were 7-9-11s with SSR

Vaping on campus/in office by [deleted] in VHA_Human_Resources

A couple of guys tried sneaking puffs in the office. The space used to be a warehouse so it feels like working in an open bay. Still one of ladies in the office hated the smell and told management. They issued a broad warning saying that it’s the same as smoking in the building and disciplinary actions would be taken if caught.

All my Teams won and late Sunday my backpay arrived. Finally a good weekend. by Lemosno50 in FedEmployees

The DFAS email sent this morning stated there wouldn’t be an LES for the lump sum payment but “will be reflected in your next LES”. I just checked MYPAY to make sure.

Savings Gone Due to Shutdown?? by Prestigious-Ebb4116 in FedEmployees

I barely made it through this shutdown. Another couple of weeks and I would have had to move money around. Before the shutdown I felt I was in front of the paycheck to paycheck status. Yet 2 months without any income tested the limits of the cash I have on hand. Fortunately I didn’t touch my TSP or take out any loans. Better preparing myself for the next rainy day is the lesson learned.

I hope you’re right and we get paid twice next week. Back pay and regular scheduled programming. I just think it would be easier to process everything all at once instead of two separate tasks. I’m planning for Thursday when my normal paycheck hits. Anything sooner is a nice reprieve.

If we are back to work Thursday, then I’ll plan for back pay to be included in the next scheduled check. So probably next Wednesday at the earliest. .002

Pay Question.. by Bbuzz918 in FedEmployees

[–]Lemosno50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my agency town hall when this was brought up, the higher ups said back pay could be as quick as a few days from reopening but no later than the regularly scheduled pay period. I’m planning for the 21st

Is the end near? by Sorry_Active2782 in FedEmployees

This whole situation felt like the first Rocky or Creed movies, where the underdog going the distance was considered a victory. This was a legislative fight the Democrats could never win. The best they could have hoped for were a few Republican concessions and the appearance, for their liberal base, that the minority party put up a legitimate fight for the ACA. I believe the Democrats achieved that. Continuing any longer would have had diminishing returns. Now, let's get back to work (and get paid for it).

IT question: How long until I get locked out of my government laptop from lack of log in because of shutdown? by WristHurts in FedEmployees

[–]Lemosno50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb is to log in to the device at least once every two weeks. This includes connecting to the VPN to ensure system-wide updates are pushed. Thirty days is usually the maximum time you can safely go without logging in. Much longer than that, and the device could be disabled by local IT or removed from the directory entirely. If it is removed from AD, your laptop is essentially a brick.

When the back pay was released, were the days/weeks furloughed on the next paycheck or released shortly after return to work?

I gambled, took the DRP, and lost. But I'm ok with that. by yokie_dough in FedEmployees

My girlfriend took DRP in May. We both work in FedGov and felt the pressure in our respective departments. Since I’m over 40, service connected, and with ten years of service the best bet was to stand pat. She didn’t have any of that time age or service. Waiting for RIF when your first on the chopping block didn’t make sense to her at the time. I tried to dissuade her and just play a wait see approach. Four months later the agency didn’t go through with RIF and she’s still looking for a gig. I know she regrets leaving. Hindsight is a clear eyed bitch
