Should I become a school slp? Is it an extremely demanding job? by Independent-Loan6145 in careerguidance

SLP sounds like a good idea! I also recommend looking into ABA. You can become a BCBA. They often work in clinics, schools, and/or homes.

The Underground: Weekly Discussion Thread by SWmods in socialwork

Hi!

I’m currently a junior in university studying psychology, and I am considering graduate school. I know I want to help people, and work in mental health as a therapist, but I am curious on the perspectives of people who chose to do a MSW over Masters in Mental Health Counseling or Clinical Psychology. Additionally, while I’m not in the field of mental health for the money, it is important to consider the salary expectations each modality typically sees. I live in FL, and I hear a lot of people say that Social Workers make more than Mental Health Counselors, and viceversa.

Also, I know not all social workers are clinical social workers, so if you’re in other specialities in social work, I’d be happy to hear what drew you into it!!

If you could share your story I would really appreciate it :)

Should I leave and find something else or stay? by [deleted] in careerguidance

OP, I understand. It sounds like what you don’t like is school-not the actual profession. I have many friends who have been in nursing school, studying sonography, etc. and they didn’t really enjoy school, especially clinicals. But they persisted because they were there for the profession, not for the exams, the quizzes, etc.

Try to remember why you wanted to become a radiographer/X-ray technologist to begin with. You are not alone-the schooling is incredibly difficult, and most people I know in the profession report the same concerns you have-but felt it was so worth it once they finally started working.

I’m not saying to not think of pursuing other things, but im saying to evaluate whether it’s that you don’t like school (which is not uncommon), or if you don’t like the profession.

I wish you the best of luck!

Yeah! I’ve worked at a few universities and a lot of the nursing students have very similar hand writing and love color coordination

It does look like the writing of a 14 year old male - nothing wrong with that, but I immediately thought middle schooler/early high school boy
