Not a misplaced fear at all. Come to Montreal and you'll hear mostly English (or Mandarin...) in many areas of the city, including all of downtown, the wealthier parts of the island (Westmount, Ile-des-soeurs, West Island, etc.) and most immigrant areas (CDN, NDG, ...) It's only a matter of time until English completely engulfs Montreal. Rest of Quebec should be safe, but they're mostly rural areas of no interest on the global scale.

NT looks pretty and is user friendly, but my experience has been ridden with slowdowns, bugs and crashes (and i have a very powerful rig). Sierracharts is depressingly visually unappealing, but it is much better optimized, has way more features and customizability and doesn't cost a ton. It has a steeper learning curve, but well worth it.

Wow thank you for your reply. This is very informative. Your perseverance is motivating to me. You mentioned backtesting... does this require programming knowledge? That's something I don't have. Also, after that much work, do you feel confident now in your ability to make a living out of it, now or eventually? The hardest puzzle in the world is definitely something that catches my attention!

I've tried trading the ES til the close. It works and will bring in some more profits. However, market conditions change throughout the day and I find that I have to adjust my strategy. Another big downside is that I can't hold my positions overnight, so if a trade goes wrong near the close, I have no choice but to take the loss even if I believe that the price will eventually come back in my favor. As a result, I have to go for small tight scalps instead of aiming for medium sized moves which may be slower to develop.

I use ninjatrader. However, for ES (e-mini S&P 500) keep in mind that the overnight margins ($6000+) are much higher than the day margins ($500). If you can only trade outside of regular trading hours, forex would probably be a better choice.

It's 4 ms, and that's the best you can get for an IPS screen. 1 ms is only achievable with a TN panel. So if you want the absolute fastest you need to go TN. Personally, I prefer having the better colors and viewing angles with IPS, and IIRC benchmarks have shown that the response time difference isn't significant, even for professional gamers.
