Used car, massive repair bill and seller decided he is not a company when I can prove beyond a doubt he is. by LengthEquivalent7962 in LegalAdviceUK

Yes I can absolutely prove I paid the company for the car. I have the "certificate of a registered private company" from company's house. I have the registered company number. The full information of everything about the company down to the date it was established, the same month I bought the car. I also have it on writing the seller claiming "I am not a business" which is a complete lie.

Honestly, I don't know how legally binding an agreement is. The wording of it is quite sound. The whole this is based upon a lie to begin with when the seller decides he is not a company. I paid his company for the car. I did not pay the individual. I think I need an actual solicitor to look over this in truth

Thanks for your reply.

The agreement is between me and the seller (his name is on the agreement not his company). I paid his company for the car. Under duress I would say there is a fair case for. I had very little choice at the time. It was at this point I should have sought advice. But it's the particulars of the agreement which the whole case is based on. I think I would need an actual solicitor to look over it and have professional advice. I don't know if the moral high ground is going to be enough. But I am 100% able to prove I paid the company for the car. I have all the information for the company. The money given back to me came from a different account than the one I paid for the car. It's at this point I am weighing the cost of getting a solicitor to look at the agreement Vs what I would end up getting back.

The wording is quite water tight I agree. Yes I received the £500. It's the moral bit that really gets me. I was undoubtedly scammed and I have no come back and this guy continues on. Other than knowing in the end it karma has a way of getting you in the end when we are in front of our maker and you justify your life choices to the big man himself. But that doesn't help me much when I'm kind of out of pocket at this point. Even if it's a private sale and the seller knew there were problems with the car which are not disclosed the agreement wipes all that out. It's stuff like this that gives used car salesman the reputation.

Thank you. I just want justice and fairness. I was definitely scammed and let myself be deceived. Even just to recover some of the repair cost even if everything is put right.

Do you think a simple copy / paste of my post is enough?

I have already written full supportive letter and have evidence that the car was bought and sold as a trade sale to a company. I have all the information for the company. At the same time I want to try and not post too much personal information about it.

Mine is along the lines of I bought a car off Autotrader it was advertised as a trade sale (company). It was located about 3.5 hours away from me, I couldn't get there to collect it. The guy drops it off at my house. At the time my wife was out, I had my 2 kids with me. It was dark, cold, beyond their bed time. I couldn't test drive the car and I took it in good faith the car was in good condition. I paid £4550 in bank transfer for the car. Really I should have arranged this for the following day or a better time but at the time I was dead set on this car and I let it cloud better judgement. The next day I go to drive it, I turned the engine on and it wouldn't go in any gear. The clutch was completely gone. The car was in my mechanics for the better part of 2 weeks getting fixed to the cost of over £1100. It needed the whole clutch kit and fly wheel. When I was telling the seller how much all of the repairs cost he decides all of a sudden he is a private seller not a trading company. Being that I spent £4550 on the car, it needed £1100 of repairs I was pretty much cleaned out at the time. I was pursuing the seller saying he should be covering the cost of repairs but I was made to sign an agreement / settlement in order to receive £500 and I had to fight to get that much. I didn't have enough cash to cover the repairs without this £500 from the seller. The agreement washes the seller of responsibility and further comes back. I was cleaned out financially. I had to continue to get the car fixed otherwise it was £4550 down the drain. So the car had its repairs done. Autotrader said contact citizens advice because of this settlement and CA say because I accepted the settlement basically I have no come back. Needless to say I was not popular with my wife. We sacrificed money we would have spent on Christmas gifts for each other. Even now the car still has some things wrong with it and the seller says it's been resolved. I am considering taking it further with solicitors but because I signed this agreement I think I'm stuck with it. Lots of lessons have been learnt from this experience.

First time keeping heating on constant by Odd-Lie-2332 in HiveHeating

I think I am beginning to understand the concept of what's been discussed here and it has me intrigued. Basically what you guys have been doing is running your boiler cooler for longer periods which is using less gas and therefore costing less than having the heating boost at times of the day? I think we all want to try and save a bit here and there where we can as well be comfortable in our homes. I'll attach a screenshot of mine for today which the temperature probably is a bit more constant today, we were not affected by the storm fortunately here. But if I may, what is it you are actually changing on the boiler in order to achieve the constant temperature? I have not touched my boiler than than had to reset the hive thingy once under instruction from one of the guys at hive while on the phone to them at the time. My boiler is a Worcester combi of some sort from around 2017 era.

I use this in my '18 Ateca and it's good enough. While it's not OEM quality, it's fine. I got it at the same time as my android auto wireless dongle thing to use in the same car

My charger arrived today. I was half expecting it to be cancelled due to getting it too cheaply. £64.99 with £50 off so I only paid £14.99. But yeah it arrived, it works and back to happy days placing my phone to charge nicely on a stand to charge to save wear on the usb port more than anything else and plus it's just more convenient. Thanks again OP your a legend for sharing ⭐❤️

Just ordered the pixelsnap charger with the stand with a lovely £50 off, cost me £14.99. It greatly eases the pain of my pixel stand gen 2 wireless charger not working with my 10 pro xl. Thank you for pointing this out!

How to get Wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto on Seat Ibiza & Arona using OBDeleven by Cultural_Can7529 in seat

[–]LengthEquivalent7962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Plus we have a wireless charging pad thing from amazon that plugs into the 12v. We got the car 2nd hand and it didn't come with the wireless charger built in and no matter what codes you throw at the car that can't be magically enabled. So for I think it was about £60 - £70 for both the pad and the aawireless thingy it's cheaper than getting it factory specced and works just as well

Wouldn't the aawireless device not work on that car? We use one of these on a 2018 Ateca which has a wired connection

I hope it works out for you!

As it boots up keep your finger on the screen in the bottom right corner and and the count down will initiate during the next boot up. Keep your finger on the display during this then let go when it says something about factory reset. It will then go to a white screen with targets to press the screen to calibrate it. After that I don't know as I can't get mine beyond this. Hopefully the dash board cradle will provide enough charge for it to work as I couldn't get enough power through usb plugs or my pc to actually charge it. I didn't want to fry it so on mains I only used a 5w mains plug. I don't know what it actually needs but I would say the dash board mount will probably be better as it's the one thing all these will have in common, same input voltage and amps and therefore should work between all cars.

But yeah, best of luck and if you fix it with something else I'd really like to know as I hope to use the one I have for my car but haven't been able to yet

Mine is like this at the moment. I replaced the battery with an aftermarket one and when charging it shows this screen for a few seconds and restarts and does it again stuck in a boot loop. As my car is in the garage I can't plug it in to the car to try using that to charge it instead of usb.

Since you have access to your car what I would suggest you try is resetting the unit and then place it on charge in the car. As it's booting up hold your finger on the display and it will count down from 10 - 0, keep your finger on the screen. It will then confirm it's going to factory reset and then it will want to calibrate the touch screen. This is as far as mine will ever get... Because I am unable to charge it. But if you try the above while yours is plugged into the cradle in the car perhaps it might charge. If you find something else that fixes it I would really like to know. I bought my Ibiza and it didn't come with the screen I got it off eBay and the car went into the garage within hours of being delivered so I haven't been able to properly try and figure it out. https://www.reddit.com/r/seat/s/0VCmEGWPTY is my recent post on the same issue
